TOPIC: endangered owls what do you think of when you think of the forest? it's most likey you wouldnt think of owls. most people don't, and that ends up hurting the poor animals habitat and causing them to become endangered. the next three texts will talk about these three owls, the northern spotted owl, the forest owlet, and the little sumba hawk owl. these three are in danger, ranging from critical condition to threatened First of all, the northern spotted owl is in danger, the owls numbers lowering steadily. deforestation is one of the main reasons for this, people having no concideration for the animals living there prior to the listing of the northern spotted owl, timber harvesting and land conversions resulted in loss of owl habitat …show more content…
federal people are giving out okays to kill the owls, and are planing logging in critical habitat KS Wild Finally, federal people are giving out passes for the owls to be killed without a single care and it is heartbreaking however federal agencies have been planning timber sales in critical habitat and KS Wild Overall, the northern owl does have a fairly bad luck, and they need tobe taken care of or the owls are going to be in deep danger First of all, the forest owlet lives in small ranged comunities, not very many to an area the forest owlet lives in a restricted range limited to a certain river valley Birds of India In addition, one article states that… the spicies was considered extinct at one time, and their is thoughnt to be only about 50-250 left in the wild “ the spices went missing for years and was thought to be extinct Birds of India Finally, the deforestation and superstitious beliefs of humans are also puttin g a huge strain on these owls habitat destruction and dweforestation are the maain threats, but superstitious beliefs are also taking a toll Birds of India Overall, the forrest owlet is the one most likely to die off out of all of these sadly First of all, this owl is very poorly known so their isn't much info on
The Pacific Northwest is perhaps most commonly known for its awe-inspiring old growth forests that have been gracing the land for hundreds and hundreds of years. The land in British Colombia, Canada, Washington state, Oregon, and parts of Northern California are the only areas in the world where these forests exist. One of the most unique and amazing inhabitants of this age-old forest is the Northern Spotted Owl. The Northern Spotted Owl has been on the endangered species list for over ten years now. The Northern Spotted Owl can only be found in these old growth forests. The northern spotted owl requires many acres old forests to survive, due to its scarce food supply. They are very sensitive to their habitat, and simply cannot survive in any other environment. These owls, as well as the forests have been disappearing at an alarming rate due to the immense logging industry in its area.
Listed as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act, the Northern Spotted Owl has inadvertently landed in the in middle of the complicated debate over logging in the Pacific Northwest. Under the Act, logging of many old-growth forests has been suspended to protect the bird and its remaining habitat.
One of the main reasons that burrowing owls are becoming endangered is because the habitat changes in the United States. They require grasslands to look for holes to nest in. Since burrowing owls are unable dig their own holes they rely on prairie dogs, badgers, and gophers. Most people consider the above animals to be a hassle because they dig holes in places they shouldn’t they end up getting killed off by poisons. Burrowing owls are predators, but because they are the smallest of all the owls they are not on the top of the owl food chain. This puts them at risk for becoming prey to other predators in the wild such as other owls, coyotes, badgers, and several other predators.
Although the bird is not a key player in the forest ecosystem, many environmental groups have made it a mascot for environmental causes everywhere. If the Spotted Owl were to become extinct, life would go on without ...
As a result, their habitat is being destroyed, leaving them with no place to live and to nest their young. They are also being disturbed by human activities near their habitat.
I have chosen to do research on the Northern Spotted Owl for my keystone lab. Many factors can influence the life of this species. The Northern Spotted Owl is said to be located in the Old Growth Forests of Northern California, Oregon, Washington and some small areas in British Columbia, and Canada. The northern spotted owl has inhabited these areas for hundreds of years, yet was only found as a species in the early 1900’s. We are all aware the Spotted Owls (Strix occidentalis caurina) is a keystone species, but it is also known as an indicator species of Old Growth Forests. Thanks to the constant need for lumber from timber companies, the Northern Spotted Owl has been steadily moving towards an eventual extinction. ("Northern Spotted Owl.")
Manatees are loved by many Floridians. Manatees are known as one of the state’s natural wonders. They were once marked as one of the endangered mammals in Florida. The federal government considers a species endangered when it is at risk of extinction. Therefore, the federal government is downlisting manatees from “endangered” to “threatened.” The manatees are now downgraded from endangered to just threatened, the level of protection for the manatees are also reducing. Since the federal government has spoken out that manatees are no longer endangered, does it decrease the risk of manatees being extinct?
direction, the major problem for their decline would have to be remedied – loss. of the habitat of the sailor. This fact combined with the owls' short life expectancy and late age. breeding only exacerbates the problem. When loggers remove old growth owl loses habitat for its food, housing, as well as protection from predators.
It was adopted on May 3, 1977, following a province-wide children's vote. The Great Horned Owl, resides in Alberta throughout the year and was selected to symbolize the growing concern of diminishing wildlife, not only in Alberta, but throughout the world.
Imagine wanting not a puppy, but a tiger for your birthday, imagine the expenses of that tiger and the dangers and hazards of owning that tiger. Do you really think it’s a good idea to get that tiger? No, it’s not. It’s a lot of work, and it’s also very dangerous. Exotic animals are not good to buy and have. If you buy that cute tiger, it will eventually grow up and not be so cute, it will be dangerous and strong, it’s also a wild animal and it’s very unpredictable, also there are many diseases you can catch from that tiger, and there are many dangers of having that tiger as well. Imagine a world where there are no animals anywhere. There are still the ordinary cows, pigs, cats, dogs, but there is not a single tiger or rhinoceros. People all around the world have been killing animals for thousands of years and they need to stop and obey the laws. Make your voice heard for the animals; they can’t speak for themselves so we need to do it for them. Other reasons on why animals are getting put on the endangered species list and or going extinct: habitat intrusion, pet trade, climate change, and disease. Please help to save the animals or they won’t be here any longer.
The Earth is far and away the most biodiverse planet in our solar system, with about 8.7 million more unique species than the other 8 planets (UNEP). However, the Earth’s commanding lead is shrinking; not because the other planets are increasing biodiversity, but because Earth’s is decreasing. According to the World Wildlife Fund, we as a planet are losing 1,000 to 10,000 more species than the natural rate. Since the total number of species is hard to pin down, this can mean anywhere from 200 to 10,000 species going extinct per year (World Wildlife Fund). This obscenely high extinction rate is dangerous not just to ecosystems directly affected by the loss, but also creates a domino effect that circles around the globe and up and down the food
Although it may not seem saving or protecting endangered animals is important, it actually and truly is important because animals around the world are being killed for wildlife market goods which is illegal and destroys the species population in that environment. Citizens should take more concern with taking care of these endangered animals before they become totally extinct and will no longer be seen on the face of the earth. Recently researchers have found that poachers (hunters who hunt animals for their value with trading illegal merchandise) are killing thousands of animals a day, and they are doing so even to this day. These species should be treated with more responsibility and care. They are even being killed by human interactions
In our world today we have approximately 26,021 endangered species. Endangered species are organisms that may possible become extinct. The term 'endangered species' refers to all species that fits this description. However some conservation biologists and scientists normally use the term ‘endangered species’ to refer to species that are put on the IUCN(International Union for Conservation of Nature)Red List. Many factors can be looked at when considering the conservation status of a species. Factors such as human threats or environmental threats can cause a species to become endangered.
