Argumentative Essay On Climate Change

Human health is slowly diminishing, the ocean and sea levels are increasing dramatically, and plant life around the earth is vanishing- all due to the longly debated topic of climate change. Climate change is no myth; it’s a further analysis of how our planet is suffering due to human carelessness, which is observed throughout the glaciers worldwide. Due to fossil fuel consumption and deforestation, greenhouse gasses are beyond regular amounts and affecting the glaciers, causing them to melt and increase ocean and sea levels which endanger many of Earth’s habitats and species.
To further understand climate change, one must recognize what it is. When people ponder the subject of climate, they think of the patterns of biomes in terms of weather, …show more content…

As an effect of the melting glaciers, the global sea level is rising significantly. Moreover, a study conducted by National Geographic’s Daniel Glick concluded that “Southern Louisiana coasts are literally sinking about three feet a century, a process called subsidence” (Glick). This information is vital to understanding why melting glaciers are a fundamental sign to understanding climate change. By the year “2100 it’s estimated our oceans will be one to four feet higher, threatening coastal systems and low-lying areas, including entire island nations and the world’s largest cities including New York, Los Angeles, and Miami, as well as Mumbai, Sydney and Rio De Janeiro” (Danchak). With evidence proving global sea levels are rising, impoverished countries are at stake. Many islands such as Tuvalu risk disappearing and residents are uncertain of the foreign future. Another such area is Bangladesh, with much of its land on the Ganges Delta where the coast is already naturally eroding due to subsidization. In an interview Alec Hohensee states that “It is expected that if no action is taken...thirteen million more people will lose their homes in the near future” (Hohensee). In similar fashion, people aren’t the only forms of life that will have nonexistent homes; other species will experience extreme loss such as Hawaiian monk seals, loggerhead sea …show more content…

In another interview Daniel Glick states “More than a hundred million people worldwide live within three feet of mean sea level” (Glick), which in its entirety means numerous amounts of people will experience the malevolent fate of global sea rising due to climate change. Rising sea level due to climate change produces a plethora of effects. Bruce Douglas, a coastal researcher at Florida International University, calculates “Every inch of sea level rise could result in eight feet of horizontal retreat of sandy beach shorelines due to erosion. Furthermore, when salt water intrudes into freshwater aquifers, it threatens sources of drinking water and makes raising crops problematic.” (Douglas). Salt water intrusions are a paramount discrepancy to farmers and cattle worldwide, which can become ill due to no freshwater. Though Glaciers are 100% fresh water it doesn’t change the fact that the transfusion of fresh and saltwater still contaminates the fresh water. As this enters the big picture, Earth will have a massive shortage of freshwater for species globally. The Extreme Ice Survey states “Water-the only substance that is lighter in its solid than its liquid state-has more density as saltwater than fresh-water” (Balog). Unfortunately, water isn’t the only problem when it comes to melting glaciers, but disease as well. Richard Taylor of the University College of London Department of Geography
