This book is telling a story about two African American boys (Wes A and Wes P) who have the same name and grew up at same community, but they have a very different life. The author, Wes A, begins his life in a tough Baltimore neighborhood and end up as a Rhodes Scholar, Wall Streeter, and a white house fellow; The other Wes Moore begins at the same place in Baltimore , but ends up in prison for the rest of his life. Then why do they have the same experience, but still have a totally different life? Bernie Sanders is running for President of the United States of America as a democratic candidate. His competition for the primary elections is Hillary Clinton, a well-known politician with plenty of experience under her belt. Bernie is running as a non-traditional candidate, which is a main factor of why his campaign is extremely successful and popular with the American people. A recent political ad released by Sander’s campaign team called “Real Change” emphasizes his family values and dedication to the working class, fighting for the votes of the average American. The ad implies Bernie is the right man for the job due to his long history of experience and commitment to the issues he believes in. This political ad illustrates how Bernie
Jackie Robinson was the first black baseball player to play on the professional level, he was fearless, courageous, willful and strong. He was an advocate for civil rights, as well as a great baseball player. He had to try to keep quiet, and keep to himself while playing, but became a stronger and more extreme advocate over time. A leader on and off the fields dealing with much more than just baseball, he also had to deal with the criticism and racial tensions of a prominently white game. Branch Rickey, the owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers, was a showman who knew how to make money and fame in baseball “he had made a fortune for the cardinals as well as himself, and black talent could argument his bottom line by transforming his struggling dodgers into a power house” (Zeiler, 17). He wanted to make his team great by any means possible. He put his eyes on Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson changed the game and the world, and will always be a huge figure in baseball and civil rights.
A child of abuse and neglect, Chris McCandless awed the world with his inspiring trip across the nation to find himself in Alaska. Leaving his well off life and his problematic family behind to be true to his ideas of life. His life impacted the people who knew him well and the strangers that drove him to his haven. When the story of this young man hitch hiking across the country broke ground, it made many people question if this boy was just crazy or did he really have a true understanding on the day to day live we were living and where we were going wrong. Although some critics have conceived the idea that Chris McCandless was just a crazed mad man with schizophrenia and the unachievable idea of true happiness. Many believe he was a new

The definition of grit is simple; it means being passionate about long term goals, and showing stamina to pursue them, but should students in public schools have a class dedicated to a grit-focused curriculum? This has become a major topic of discussion among teachers and mentors. Angela Duckworth, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, claims grit is not a fixed quality but one that can be developed. Many disagree with her statement. Grit is something everyone all have within themselves, but some just do not utilize this characteristic as often or as well as others. Grit is a puzzling concept. Duckworth has had an obsession with grit for over a decade. Her obsession started when she visited West Point,
Bernard “Bernie” Sanders, is one of the best candidates for this years 2016 presidential election. He is the junior United States Senator from Vermont. Bernie Sanders is the former senator of the state of Vermont and is currently running to be the democratic representative in the 2016 Presidential Election. Bernie Sanders has stated that he is a socialist democrat but it is unclear whether he is either a socialist or a liberal. His statement is unclear because on some topics he takes on more liberal view than a socialist view. Bernie Sanders is known for being a strong believer of the government helping out the economy more and having the wealthy pay more taxes. He wants less poverty in society and help it have a consistent middle class. Two issues that I agree with Bernie on is his views on helping the economy and his views on the war on terror. Bernie Sanders is a strong supporter
He is more interested in what the individual, the voter, can do in politics; rather than political tactics. Furthermore, Obama again presents the ideas of humanity, charity, and an eagerness to cooperate with opponents, something much needed in the current day. However, while Obama’s opinions are spot on, his solutions are idealistic; making them very unrealistic for the current world. In Chapter Two: Values, Obama wants a political scope the action plans, values, and ideas of a candidate are more important than who they are dating or what color shoes they wore.
Several states have specific cultures, primarily created from multiple races, ethnicities, or nationalities, which are seen in countries like Austria, France, Russia, Serbia, Japan, Mexico and countless other states. The United States of America is greatly different from those aforementioned states above, in that the U.S. is a huge melting pot. The term melting pot is usually always associated with the United States, due to the many cultures that make up the country, which mix together to conform a country's society. The U.S. has also been called a "nation founded by immigrants", because every citizen of the country has immigrant ancestry. Large numbers of illegal individuals from other countries come to the United States every year to seek benefits and to fulfill their "American dream”; all while they really steal the “American dream” from the lawful legal citizens of the United States and cause dysfunction in our society, economy, and etc.
Everyday, the United States has issues with the society, government, political issues, and environmental issues. One important topic that stands out for everyone is illegal immigration. So why does the U.S have problems with illegal immigration? Thoughts and opinions are all generated around the fact that the benefits the United States offer for the surrounding countries attract legal and illegal immigrants. Health benefits, medical emergency care, and schooling are a few subjects these immigrants target in the U.S.
Socialism is a social and economic system where the means of productions are shared indivisibly throughout the community or enterprise rather than in the names of a few individuals. Or more simply put Socialists believe that the Chief Executives of a corporation are not the ones who deserve the big pay check. They believe that the working men and women deserve more money because they are they ones out in the field doing the work. The main goal of socialism is to more evenly distribute the wealth. They care more about having more people living comfortably than just a few individuals getting wealthy. Socialist ideas in todays politics are what they believe will make it easier for Americans to live in America.
Politics is one of the most debated topics in the country today. With the wide variety of values present in America, it is bound to be a difficult topic to discuss. I’ve grown up in a family of democrats with religiously republican grandparents. Considering myself an Independent leaning democratic, I can usually calmly talk politics with my family. This year’s election has made any conversation surrounding politics toxic to my family and creates a large argument of one side or the other and no in between.
