“Horseback riding isn’t a sport.” I can’t tell you how many people I have heard say that very statement, and to me it is quite offensive. What people don’t realize is that, that simple statement is only partially true. The very definition of a sport is competing as an individual or team against another. Pay close attention to the word, “competing,” and that’s where people who say horseback riding isn’t a sport, are only partially wrong. The people who have horses and trail ride or simply ride for the pleasure of it, in my own opinion, for them horseback riding isn’t a sport because they aren’t competing or being competitive at all. Now I stand with the people who compete and are very competitive in competition with their horses. So for me, horseback riding is very much a sport because I compete against others and if you know me you should know that I am a very competitive person. …show more content…
When riding, you have to put your full trust into a 1200+ pound animal with a mind of it’s own and if the horse doesn’t want to go for a ride that day they let you know and typically the let u know the hard way, by putting you on the ground. In other sports if you fall most likely you weren’t moving very fast and more or less you didn’t fall very far, when it comes to a horse, on average in a jumping course you are moving at 10-17 mph and when you fall you fall from high up and you hit hard. I would know, my horse Dusty used to spook then take off galloping full speed and dump me all the time, in fact one of my falls broke my helmet in the middle of a stadium jumping course at a show. Competing on a horse is the only sport that actually requires you to have a medical armband in the event of a fall, no other sport requires that, which goes to show how dangerous our sport
It is general consensus that marching band is one of the furthest things from a sport; in fact, most people believe that band is nothing more than a group of nerds that were too unathletic to play sports. Contrary to this popular belief, marching band is much more physically taxing and demanding that many people are aware of. Based on the amount of physical exertion it entails and the similarities with other sports that are present, marching band should most definitely be considered a sport.
When riding a horse you don’t just sit there and do nothing, You work hard to control a 800-1000 pound animal. You have to push your horse and yourself to the greatest you can be. It is a lot of work, it is just like any other sport. You have to go ride your horse at least 4 times a week, you practice in the wind, rain, snow, when it’s hot out, and event when it is freezing cold.
There is two things in this world that you should be scared of. The first thing is spiders, and the second is a cheerleader who has just been told cheerleading is not a sport. There are approximately 400,000 individuals in the Unites States in this day and age that participate in high school cheerleading (www.varsity.com). If you ask, most of them would tell you that they work their butts off, and they would say that cheerleading is a sport. In some cases some cheerleaders are fighting for their right to be called athletes because their school districts tell them that they aren’t. By doing this the school districts are portraying the message that cheerleading is a joke, and that it isn’t a real sport. It sets stereotypes for cheerleaders, and they have to work to overcome those stereotypes everyday. The school districts all over US not classifying cheerleading as a sport are in the wrong. For several reasons, all school districts should recognize cheerleading
From my personal experience I have known a lot of individuals that don’t believe supercross is a sport because it doesn’t require any physical effort or any particular natural skills; it is a big argument if they don’t know anything about it. Most of the individuals claim that the bike does all the work and the only thing you have to do is hold on to the handlebars. On top of th...
There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding the sport of riding horses, including that the horse is doing all of the work. Contrary to popular belief this is false. The rider needs to guide and support all the horse does. The use of abdominal muscles keeps the rider balanced and stabilized. Coordination also plays a major part in horsemanship. To get the horse to do what you want like stop or speed up, a lot of different cues given synchronously to keep the horse from wondering off on its own. Hamstrings, glutes, and quads all work to support yourself upright in the saddle and used as cues to get the horse to turn and move forward. “Straddling a large powerful animal with a mind and agenda of its own is a full body workout that will engage your muscles
Rodeo is the sport of cowboys and cowgirls that compete in various events on horseback, or on the back of the bull, all related to the Wild West and ranch type activities. The couple was harassed by the viewers of the post for
By doing this the author makes the audience question just how much they know about the sport; how many horse and rider deaths occur each year, how many of those are a direct result of a rotational fall, how many of those could have been prevented by the use of the proposed safety measures, the author does this by presenting facts and information from committees and the FEI.
Have you ever been to a horse race? Seeing the riders give their horses a pat and an apple after the race, people cheering for their horse as it runs rapidly to the finish line? Seems like a great time. But what happens to those horses after they are done their race. What happens to the people who gambled their family’s lives savings. All horse racing should be shut down due to the well being of the horses, the effects of gambling, and the lack of interest.
There are kids and students, even from a young age, who are told by their parents that they have to play a sport. These parents find it important that their kids be involved in some type of physical activity, and it is. So a little girl thinks taking a dance class would be interesting and that she would be able to please her parents by this choice of sport. But when she comes to tell them what sport she would like to take up, they tell her dance is not a sport. Even after explaining to them that if someone is good enough they can compete, which is just like any other sport, this little girl’s dream of being a competitive dancer is crushed by her parents jaded view of what is considered a sport. The word “sport” is defined in the dictionary
The horses need to be in shape for whatever the rider ask him/her to do. Horses need to have muscle strength to keep them balanced. It is known that if the horse drops his inside shoulder the rider will feel like the horse is going to fall over. The horse needs to build up his muscle in his whole body so that he can carry himself the way he should. Once the horse has begun to build up some muscle in his body it should feel less like the horse will fall over. Also when the horse muscles get stronger the rider should also be building more muscle from the aids used while helping the horse build up his strength in his body (Meredith, Faith). The horse is not the only one that needs to be physically fit; the rider does too. Riders need to have upper body strength to keep them in the correct position while riding a horse. To be in that position, one should have an invisible line from his/her ears to his/her heels. Riders need to build up
Baseball, basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, tennis, lacrosse. All of these activities are easily recognized as sports. But, there’s still one physical pastime that isn’t given enough credit and is typically forgotten when it comes to sports--dance. There has been a question about whether we should consider dance as a sport. While they do have similar athletic components, many believe it is simply meant for competition & “showing off”, doesn’t require any hard work, and it would change the overall definition of a sport. This isn’t exactly the case. Dance involves physical exertion, skill, and defines as a sport/athletes (according to the definition). They compete, as do other sports. Nevertheless, dance is sport, for multiple

A lot of people do not understand the hard work and time it takes to train a horse, as well as compete in competitions or shows. I personally know a lot about horseback riding because I grew up riding horses. It really makes me mad when someone comments “that is not a sport”. Well, yes they can state their opinion but I don’t have to agree with them and vice versa.
Someone is sitting on a stage with people clapping and people cheering, but they didn’t sing or dance, they did magic while playing a video-game. This is competitive gaming. People can see and know that gaming is fun. They are playing a sport. Some disagree with this, but many other people believe it is. The players must go to the gym for fast reactions and stamina and must be very mentally focused, and just agree to stick with the trends as well. Video gaming should be a sport.
