“In Before Banned” By the time you are finished reading this sentence, an elite hacker could have identified your IP address, and along with it, your exact latitudinal location, the make and model of your device, who you are, and what you do. This is the power of Anonymous, a secretive organization consisting of bored teens and twenty-somethings who have nothing better to do than practice their art, and carry it out against those who dare to question their authority. They strike fear into their oppressors with phrases like “Expect us”, and never fail to follow through on their promises. But outside the malicious perception of the group, Anonymous represents a complex virtual society focused on

They are to be respected regardless of their doings because they are just another culture that lives among us, but suffer the same type of hazing and scrutiny other sub cultures or races may have to endure. Nevertheless, the internet subculture will continue to press on in their quest for total internet liberation and freedom despite what roadblocks the government and media may put in its way. Finally, even though the internet is currently better off with the presence of Anonymous, which keeps the government at bay from passing unconstitutional laws, a departure to the Darknet would help spurn greater awareness of modern technology and bring the masses up to speed with some of the greatest hackers in the world. In the end, why wouldn’t America want Anonymous to exist? They are some of the proudest and most patriotic citizens in this country, proving their allegiance by challenging the foes that challenge real American values, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and not control, consumerism, and …show more content…
Anonymous. 18 Apr. 2013 <kpvz7ki2v5agwt35.onion.to/wiki/index.php/>. A primary source and unofficial gathering place for a couple different sects of the organization. Access cannot be gained by copy/pasting this URL into a web browser, and for that matter, probably shouldn’t. The IP address is masked to ensure the protection of its users. Reading the message boards here was quite the adventure in and of itself, and gathering information was quite easy, given what the primary topics of discussion carried out by the website’s population. Know Your Meme. 2008. Cheezburger/ Rocketboom. 18 Apr. 2013 <http://knowyourmeme.com/>. A website whose sole purpose is to provide information on the internet, its users, and remaining perfectly factual in its quest. I used this source to gathering information on almost every topic presented in the paper, and checked the sources at the end of every article to make sure that the facts could be trusted. Information on the website can be edited by registered users only, and all edits must be checked and approved by an administrator before going live on the site.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Harry Potter, by J.K. Rowlings, The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hossenini, what do these books have in common? They are books on the American Library Association’s list of top 100 Banned/Challenged Books: 2000-2009. For various reasons, these books were found unsuitable for public audiences, and an attempt was made to ban them. From profanity to sexual content to homosexuality, groups have found reasons to challenge the books. Banning books that some people deem inappropriate from high school libraries underrates youthful intelligence, clouds history and dilutes our culture to fit a mold of conformity. Schools, even religiously affiliated ones, should focus on education and actually encouraging their students to read rather than inhibiting them from using their
The way the author supported his claims was by describing how he organized the data he used and why he used it the way it was used. For example, he organized the wills, charters and letters per year to seek the average and highest for a certain span of time. While pinpointing where the highest average
I found many sources with a lot of information and videos that gave me quotes and information not provided on websites. I presents my research on my project as what Earl went through to give the opportunity to others. I grabbed many quotes from interviews from the NPR website.
The epic poem, Beowulf, a work of fiction, offers more insight into Ancient Anglo-Saxon English culture than the work of Bede, who wrote, A History of the English Church and People. The epic poem Beowulf gives an enhanced illustration and clearer understanding of the culture of the Ancient Anglo-Saxon’s. The epic poem gives the audience a picture of what the Ancient Anglo-Saxon English valued; seafaring, warriors, heroes, and paganism.
“We are #Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget #ExpectUs #MillionMaskMarch #OpVendetta #UK”. That message is from the many tweets off of Twitter that the group Anonymous. That message has been one of their many slogans. In Anonymous’ case how do you have an all-encompassing slogan when you have no structure or hierarchy? When you are just a loosely aligned group of internet users how do you become an international group that is an example of an alienated counter-culture Anonymous is many things. Lots of different people have their opinions on them. One thing for sure is that they use Twitter to voice their alienation. The alienation I believe is the strongest is the feeling and belief that they are a counter-culture. They think they are exposing the corruption of the majority and the societal system. Anonymous thinks they are the moral opposite of that corruption. However, the group has many battles to fight. There are many who mock the group. To find research on the group, you have to go to nontraditional media sources often including their home website 4chan. The alienation felt by Anonymous is that of a counter-culture. First however, you must learn what is Anonymous is, how they started, and what they did. That may answer where they will go next.
He does this by citing known and credible sources in order to validate his idea with the work of others.
Are assertions in the source based on reliable evidence? Are sources cited? How are you able to tell? They do list where they get their info from within the paragraphs or quotes.

This is an even more difficult problem today, because, as Andrejevic (2002) predicted, the forms of information gathering and surveillance being used are incredibly inconspicuous (245). However, one might ask whether this labor is really free. Certainly, no monetary payment exists; however, users have granted access to a community that they willingly take part in. This could be understood as the exchange taking place. The problem here is that communities, like Facebook, are manufactured and they represent the privatization of “general intellect.” Nowadays, not being a Facebook user can often be social
I believe that Anonymous is best defined as being “vigilante heroes”. In today’s modern society, individuals have laptops or cellphones that they use for banking or storing personal information on a regular basis (de Ruiter, 2018, “Introducing”, para. 1) and they believe that their information is safe and secure. They are naive to the potential corrupt individuals or systems (16x9onglobal, 2012, 01:29) that could easily access their data and destroy them financially or professionally (de Ruiter, 2018, “Introducing”, para. 1). Anonymous understands this and is taking action to expose corrupt systems and individuals by turning the art of hacking into force that cannot be ignored (16x9onglobal, 2012, 07:40).
In the past year, the United States’ environmental policy has become a matter of great concern among its citizens. Our president Donald Trump has given little attention to the alarming condition of our environment. Global warming is creating erratic weather patterns, companies are extracting resources at unsustainably high rates and drought stricken states such as California are struggling to provide their citizens with potable water. With such ravaging problems and an unresponsive government, it is up to the citizens to monitor and maintain our pristine Earth and its vital services.
“We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.” This famous phrase is the motto of Anonymous. Anonymous is known practically all around the world as being an organization of hackers and activists, or “hacktivists”. Anonymous is defended by many for being the torchbearer of internet freedom. This organization is also equally vilified by many for being a criminal organization with destructive purposes. Is Anonymous an organization of freedom activists or an organization of cyber-criminals? In order to answer that question, one must first know about the history of Anonymous and how the organization operates.
In a study of anonymous internet usage, “online users in pseudonym mode intent to seek the protection of privacy rights” (Houn-Gee, Chen, & Yang, 2008, p. 241). It would make sense that those who are concerned with anonymity online would also be more interested in preservation of privacy. Anonymous communication lends itself strongly to those seeking protection. Scott Craig (2004) claims “protecting one from subsequent contact” and “avoiding persecution and retaliation for one’s beliefs” (p. 132) are two of the benefits of online communication. The hacking group Anonymous is a good example of this need for protection. The group of hackers, who call themselves Anons, believe they are “crusaders for justice” (Kushner, 2014, para. 15). These hackers attack anything they perceive as injustice, and use the anonymity of the group to give them more freedom to work outside of the law while still seeking what they believe to be justice. Anyone who desires protection may find anonymity a safe way to
Although anonymity on the web has had positive influences, it has it’s dark side as well. The creator of the anonymous social site 4chan, Christopher Poole mentions in a TED talk, “saying whatever you like is powerful, but doing whatever you like is crossing the line”. The border between what action constitutes to illegal and legal but offensive use of anonymity is a fine line.
The Darknet is a place where criminals and terrorists go to collude about how they can make the world and the people in it bend to their will, right? Wrong. While most people see the Darknet as a place where malicious individuals lurk and try to drag good, hard-working people down to their level, that is not all there is to it, nothing is that black and white anymore. In David Kushner’s Rolling Stone article, “The Darknet: Is the Government Destroying the Wild West of the Internet?”, the Darknet is introduced as a place where individuals, both good and bad, can browse the web anonymously without worrying about governments or advertisement agencies following their every move. True to his title, Kushner explores the topic of the government’s
