According to the National Rifle Association (NRA), “guns don’t kill people; people kill people.” While the people making the decisions to pull the triggers could be considered the ultimate cause of disasters such as the Sandy Hook tragedy and the Columbine shooting massacre, guns are the tools that truly enabled these incidents to take place. To mitigate the possibilities for catastrophes of this nature to happen, guns must be more strictly controlled. Additional improvements and restrictions caused by gun control laws would ensure that only people fit to possess a rifle would be able to access one and discourage unfit people from trying to obtain them. My ideas for gun control would be to further improve the requirements necessary to acquire guns. These would include proper background checks and training. Along with this, the punishments for the sale and/or possession of illegal weaponry should be reinforced and publicized more so more people are aware of the consequences of the actions before considering breaking the law. …show more content…

Guns play a pivotal part in the security of cities as well as our country as a whole; these proper usages of guns provide protection that we would not have otherwise. These weapons should only be held in capable hands for their intended purpose; implementing background checks before sales would ensure that those with criminal records or histories of violence are not given these weapons. The fact that more security measures would be involved in the attainment of rifles would discourage unfit buyers and criminals from attempting to purchase
