Being awkward sucks.
Growing up in a large strict family that limited outside interaction when I was growing up has in turn made me fairly introverted and awkward. I do not do well in social situations and try to avoid them at all costs. See unlike most people, who can strike up a cordial conversation about sports, business, or common interests with people they have just been introduced to; I on the other hand, turn to jokes and sarcasm to break the ice. Sometimes it is well received and I am dubbed “the funny one” other times it leads to nervous laughter and “what the hell” looks from everyone. It’s like Russian roulette every time I enter a new situation with a few sarcastic ice breaker comments in the chamber.
Take for example, my cousin had a certain type of party that has become pretty common now-a-days. I won’t drop any names but it entails certain battery operated devices commonly used in a romantic nature. A party like this is awkward enough as it is. So let’s take that and layer in my a bunch of people whom I have never met before and for fun, let’s talk about which vibrato...
In the introduction, the author has done a good job engaging the audience with emotions, and painting a vivid scene of the seals being slaughtered. This essay does a good job of acknowledging the other point of views. This essay also has a good, clear sense of structure. The author has a strong thesis statement, that gave a clear indication of what the following paragraphs are about.
Have you ever felt stuck? Wherever you are, it’s the absolute last place you want to be. In the book Into the Wild, Chris McCandless feels stuck just like the average everyday person may feel. Chris finds his escape plan to the situation and feels he will free himself by going off to the wild. I agree with the author that Chris McCandless wasn’t a crazy person, a sociopath, or an outcast because he got along with many people very well, but he did seem somewhat incompetent, even though he survived for quite some time.
The definition of grit is simple; it means being passionate about long term goals, and showing stamina to pursue them, but should students in public schools have a class dedicated to a grit-focused curriculum? This has become a major topic of discussion among teachers and mentors. Angela Duckworth, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, claims grit is not a fixed quality but one that can be developed. Many disagree with her statement. Grit is something everyone all have within themselves, but some just do not utilize this characteristic as often or as well as others. Grit is a puzzling concept. Duckworth has had an obsession with grit for over a decade. Her obsession started when she visited West Point,
In the memoir "Night" by Eile Wiesel, he takes us through his experience of the Holocaust and how he survived with only his father by his side. In the memoir, his purpose of writing this piece was to inflict on his targeted readers the bad crimes done to the Jews, during those three years in the concentration camps. He does this by having the strength to tell his perspective, relive the crimes, using figurative language to help readers better understand through scenes, and foreshadowing the title "Night under certain circumstances. Ellie's perspective is strongly influenced by him being a Holocaust survivor because he lived through traumatic moments that he will never forget. In the first part of the book he states his father's death and in
Looking in my mom’s yearbook, majority of the students have braces. Comparing her yearbook to my yearbook from this year, almost half of my class has perfectly straight pearly white teeth and a few still have braces. Over the years, orthodontist have been putting children in braces earlier and faster than they did years ago. Due to this, some patients are having to get a second set of braces because their jaw has shifted and teeth are out of line again. Early orthodontic care is necessary for cases that are in desperate need to correct problems like an overbite or crossbite. Orthodontist are seeming to put braces and start treatment on children that have not even lost all over their primary teeth, causing the second set of braces later on. Are orthodontist giving their patients the best option for them or is it the best option for their pocket?
I am an extremely shy person. That’s because I never know what the right thing to say is and I’m afraid to mess up. I don’t want to sound dumb in front of someone. So by not talking much, I thought I would be normal. But, people just started to ignore the fact that I was there. I didn’t have many friends and I was disheartened. Until sports seasons began in eighth grade. People on my different teams started talking to me and I built up enough confidence to have many conversations with them throughout the time we were there. It sounds pathetic, but this is just the way it is. This progressed and I made many new friendships with people, however, I am still egregious when it comes to conversing with people. My second chance came in the form of friendships. Similar to Seabiscuit, I was given a second chance that permanently altered my

“Man masters nature not by force but by understanding. This is why science has succeeded where magic failed: because it has looked for no spell to cast over nature”. From the beginning of time man and nature has been in conflict with one another because, as a whole, there is no cooperating. Each one tirelessly wants its way. The Man is fighting for dominance and nature w never yielding its authority. In American Literature, many authors illustrate this theme in their writing. Specifically the writers Jack London in The Law Of Life, Stephen Crane The Open Boat and Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Fin. Each explores the relationship between humans and nature but with slightly different methods. Mark Twain uses nature in a realistic way, Jack London in a naturalistic way and Stephen Crane constitutes a combination of both.
Every day, more and more attempts of banning books and taking away the rights of our First Amendment get violated. The challenging of a book is the attempt to remove or restrict materials, and the banning is the removal of these materials. I believe that books should not be banned for these reasons.
What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
Having gone home for a weekend, I was able to look at my behavior dealing with my family. When home I saw that I was actually was more sarcastic in those situations particularly with my mother. The people I interacted with most when I went home were my family members so naturally I was more caring to them and trying to be helpful. Going into a situation I am usually always very happy because I love my family which makes me act in ways that reflect that I care about them. I found myself not trying to fake my personality or trying harder with my family because of how at ease I was in that situation.

Tristan Holub Mrs. Ingerham English 10 Honors November 17, 2015 Acting VS Lying Acting and Lying have many similarities, that’s why people get confused about the two. In a way, acting is a lot like lying. Both try to deceive a person or people, creating a false tale that they will trust. Even though both Lying and Acting involve a person bending words and stories to convince others of a falsehood, differences can be seen in the methods, motives, and presentation of each act.
