In “Insha Allah,” a song by Maher Zain,he says “Insha Allah, you’ll find your way.”and this quote relates to The Alchemist because Santiago experiences many different religions, but he became lost during his journey to find his Personal Legend. Santiago also must believe in himself and be use determination to find his way. In “The Alchemist,” Paulo Coelho wrote “No project is completed until it's objective has been achieved.” To show that a person should keep striving to reach their goal and not give up. A person will always find their way if they continue to overcome the obstacles and reach their goal instead of giving up or settling for less. Coelho also wrote “That at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what’s happening

to us, and our lives become controlled by fate,” to show that every person will lose control of their life at least once throughout their lifetime (Coelho,18). In “Insha Allah” this is shown when Zain says “you feel so lost and that you're alone” to show that no matter what, a person will experience a time in their lives when they have no control over what's going on. Santiago loses control when he is captured in the Army camp and has to rely on the Alchemist and the Earth to help him continue on his quest to find his Personal Legend. Archetypes- In “The Alchemist,” there are many Archetypes.
Santiago, the main character of the story, was a “Shepherd” that tended to his sheep and traveled selling wool to merchants. A “Shepherd” is a leader, that protects the people that follow and love them. Santiago had to protect his sheep as well as Fatima and himself. He set his path and acquired many supporters along the way to reach his personal legend. Throughout the story, Santiago is traveling through to “desert,” to find his treasure. The desert is a symbol for “no personal growth” because the desert is barren and lifeless. This relates to The Alchemist because while he is in the desert, Santiago doesn't encounter or learn much. It is when he reaches the Oasis, the Army Camp, and the Pyramids when he realizes what he has to do next in order to achieve his personal Legend. Later on in the novel, Santiago must “transform into wind” in order to impress the leader of the Army camp to survive. Wind represents a “need for change,” and Santiago needed to change both physically, in order to survive, and mentally, to reach his treasure and fulfill his Personal Legend. Santiago also had to find his “treasure” by following his personal legend to the pyramids to discover true happiness. Treasure represents, wish-fulfillment and a more full meaning. Once Santiago discovers his treasure he becomes unquestionably happy and feels more full. He achieved his Personal Legend and became both happy and
rich.
Santiago then sets out on yet another journey, to see the alchemist. The alchemist tells Santiago that he was going to point him in the direction of the treasure. Once again Santiago is at crossroads. He replies that he has already found his treasure, namely the money he received from the crystal shop and the chieftain, a camel, and also the woman he loves, Fatima. The alchemist reminds him that none of those were found at the Pyramids, which was his initial
In The Alchemist Paulo Coelho presents a character, Santiago, torn between following tradition and his Personal Legend. Santiago tries to live true to his Personal Legend, which is a path pursued by those who strive to fulfill their purpose in life. Yet throughout the novel tradition, a motif, presents itself as a roadblock holding Santiago back from reaching his dreams. Coelho juxtaposes tradition against Personal Legend to illustrate its purely individual nature and the necessity of the acceptance of change to reach one’s dreams and goals.
Santiago is a shepherd trying to pursue his personal legend. His personal legend is the recurring dream about the hidden treasure at the foot of the Egyptian pyramids. In his dream he starts playing in a field with his sheep, when a child appeared and began to play with the animals. This was strange to him because sheep are afraid of strangers, but the sheep and children play along just fine. Then a child grabbed his hands and took him to the foot of the Egyptian pyramids. He begins his journey locally trying to find answers from a gypsy and a man named

In The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho an Andalusian boy named Santiago leaves Spain to travel to Egypt in order to achieve his Personal Legend. During his journey he meets four people, a Gypsy, a King named Melchizedek, an Englishman and an Alchemist, all of whom help Santiago along his journey towards his Personal Legend. However, only the King and the Alchemist teach Santiago lessons that he can learn from and use along his journey. The King teaches Santiago two lessons, to follow omens and that it is not always about the destination but that it is also about the journey. The Alchemist teaches Santiago to listen to his heart for guidance, what the Language of the World is and what the Soul of the World is. He eventually arrives in Egypt after
Santiago is a young boy who fits into the flawed hero archetype. His story tells of his journey to find his Personal Legend and the many new people and experiences he encounters. Santiago is flawed in the way that he does not have enough confidence in himself to complete the task set out in front of him. He is constantly putting himself off track and avoiding what he has to do. In the beginning of his journey, he faces a setback and his money gets stolen. While finding a solution and a job, he gets distracted loses sight of his dreams. A couple months into the job, he thinks, “...Egypt was now just as distant a dream as was Mecca for the merchant…” (Coelho 58) and he glorifies his new plan to “disembark at Tarifa as a winner” (Coelho 58) with his improved flock of sheep. However, he continues his journey two years later, despite his break in confidence. When Santiago reaches the Oasis during his journey across the desert, he gets sidetracked once more by a woman. This woman’s name is Fatima. The second time they meet Santiago speaks without thinking and says, “‘I came to tell you just one thing...I want you to be my wife. I love you.’” (Coelho 98). This alone demonstrates his rash actions of an inexperienced hero who causes his dreams to be postponed. However, Santiago is also a successful hero despite his flaws. He still continues his journey, no matter what, and eventually reaches his goal. Even through
An alchemist is someone who transforms common earth materials like metal into more valuable materials like emeralds and Santiago met one who accompanied him on his journey. When Santiago’s life was at risk for not being able to turn into the wind the alchemist motivated him by saying ”There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure”(Coelho 80). The alchemist’s statement meant that Santiago was scared of losing everything that he had even his life if he couldn’t turn into the wind. After acknowledging what the alchemist said he managed to do the unimaginable and turned himself into the wind continuing on his journey. As can be noted, the alchemist taught Santiago a valuable lesson to attempt and overcome dreadful moments because they might not be as impossible as he

The Theme of “The Alchemist,” by Paulo Coelho is, always follow your dreams and listen to your heart. At the start of the novel Santiago does not know what he should do when he is confronted by his dream. But by the end of the novel Santiago completely trusts his heart to guide him though life. Santiago’s story shows him learning and living out the theme of the novel.
There are many obstacles in everyday life, but none as detrimental to ones future as fear. Fear can cause people to not only avoid achieving their goals in life but it also forces them to think about it throughout every day. Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist shows that those who wallow in fear will never achieve their personal legend, and those who conquer fear will achieve anything they strive for. Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist is a commonly analyzed and criticized piece of literature. One of these articles is Rejendra Kumar Dash’s “Alchemy of the Soul: A Comparative Study of Hermann Hesse’s Siddhartha and Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist”. Dash’s article is a literary criticism of the different parts of the character’s journey in The Alchemist. He talks about, in his article, how the theme in The Alchemist is found through analyzing the different parts of Santiago’s journey and what those parts mean. Another one of these articles is Lily Hasanah’s “Decision Making in Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist”. Hasanah’s article is a literary criticism of the main character in The Alchemist, Santiago. She searches for the theme in The Alchemist through analyzing the decisions, and the outcomes of those decisions, made by Santiago. Paulo Coelho provides access to his theme, for the most part, though the actions and adventures of the main character, Santiago. Although this is the method of delivery he had in mind, Dash and Hasanah view the delivery of his theme differently.
The Alchemist conveyed the up-most truthful meaning of santiago’s personal legend by teaching him the soul of the earth. This stage helped santiago and the Alchemist are talking doing what your personal legend is and also doing exactly what your personal legend desires are when they speak in terms of listening to one’s heart. “Whenever your heart is, that is where you’ll find your treasure. Santiago takes initiative on his dreams and pursue them regardless of love affairs and the hurt that comes along with it. The stage encouraged and also motivated santiago to find his treasure and make a better life for fatima and
After Santiago's mysterious dream, he decides to travel to the pyramids in order to pursue his destiny. All along the journey he is faced with challenges, danger and difficulties, but he continues to learn, change and grow. This fable tells the story of his encounters as he attempts to follow his dream and undergoes his own personal process of transformation or alchemy. Santiago eventually discovers his destiny, but it is only as a result of taking the risks and doing the work required of him. The transformation of lead into gold is a metaphor for the inner growth and refinement that Santiago is engaged in.
There are many themes in this piece of literature. For example, it teaches you to always follow your dreams and to always to always take note and take action on your said dreams. In my opinion and from what I've read, The Alchemist a recurring theme throughout Santiago's journey to fulfilling his Personal Legend. What i made from out of the theme was to follow your dreams and to listen to what your heart wants. Santiago learns
Santiago realizes “The caravan and the desert speak the same language” as he travel through the desert. A big emphasis in the story is the language of of the world which all of creation understands and all of creation is also connected by the language. In this situation, the caravan and desert are united because of the language of the world and that is the reason “The desert allows the crossing”. Also, in the desert Santiago “Became so emotional over the desert sunrise that he had to hide his tears” when looking over the horizon. Santiago interacts with the desert in an emotional way that makes him tear up because of the unity he experiences with the desert. A person’s emotions are found in their soul, and when Santiago exhibits emotion towards the desert, both his and the desert’s soul connect with each other through the soul of the world. In like matter, Santiago thinks, “The same omen he had sought to find with his sheep, and in his books, in the crystals and in the silence of the desert” after he discovers the omen of love. When Santiago first looks at Fatima’s eyes, at the moment he realize all of the universe and nature had united in the form of the language of the world to bring him to Fatima.Throughout his journey he been shown glimpses of love through his books, sheeps, crystals, and silence of the desert but when he meets eye to eye with Fatima he knew this was what the previous glimpses had led to. Additionally, Santiago tells the Alchemist, “I don’t know the language of the desert, but my horse knows the language” when looking for life. Santiago, knowing life attracts life, let’s his horse lead him to life because he understands that all living things speak the same language of the world and will attract to each other, By all of nature being in unity, Santiago’s horse is able to find in the desert where there’s little promise of life and
