For years, there have been so many various ways of how playwrights decide on how to portray their characters when they want to write about vampires. In this article “The Wild Evolution of Vampires, From Bram Stoker to Dracula Untold” by Devon Maloney, he talks about just some of the countless ways people have taken the concept of the undead, and made it to where people create fandoms about them; whether they come from the side of romance, horror, or a mix of many. In the movie, He Never Died, they show a not so common archetype of how the vampire, Jack, is slowly giving up on who he is, both physically and mentally.

As you look back on the history of vampires, you see that it did not start like it looks now. Nowadays, when people think of vampires, most people connect them to very attractive, misunderstood, mysterious temptresses. Although when you tie it back to the original vampire character, there is no comparison. Dracula is said to be the most accurate kinds of archetype tieing back to the 19th century, when talking about these creatures because he is the definition of blood-sucking, vicious, and supernatural kind of vampire. Dracula only thought about when the next time he was going to get a human to kill, and be able to survive. He had the mentality of survival of the fittest. In Maloney’s article on Dracula it says “his eyebrows were very massive, almost meeting over the nose, and with bushy hair that seemed to curl in its own profusion… with pointy ears and teeth and the ability to shapeshift.” Which when you think about the two, there is nothing other than the aspect that they both drink blood to relate them to. In He Never Died, the attitude of numbness shows through like Dracula, but like I said, Jack brings to light the caring side for when he finds out that he has a daughter. A reason that authors may have changed the vampire scene so dramatically might be because they have a certain appeal to the mature young adult crowd.
