Apollo Creed destroyed his opponents in the ring. Being the son of such of a boxing legend, Adonis Johnson, has a lot to live up to. “Creed”, is a 2015 film directed by Ryan Coolger. Glory was what Adonis craved, so he chased it to the city of Philadelphia, the home of his father’s most infamous defeat. One of the many sequels to the, ‘Rocky’, films, ‘Creed’, champions the idea of how sport can develop an individual into a hero, someone to inspire the masses. This film portrays Adonis’s struggle to become as great as his father was. Alone, Adonis would not succeed, so he seeks the help of Rocky Balboa. A partnership develops between them; raw talent soons matures into a lean, fighting machine. When the world champion, ‘Pretty Ricky’ Conlan, challenges Creed because of his father’s extensive legacy, Adonis sets out to prove that he isn’t in his father’s shadow. Remarkable films such as ,’Creed’, have defining features to separate them from the ordinary flicks that we all seem to forget so suddenly.
‘Creed’ has a scene that is truly special, the first professional fight of Adinos. While some may think that editing tricks are being used, the sequence really is a single shot, which the cinematographer believes was important to the film to give the audience the feeling of being alone in the ring, just like the character they were following. Connecting to the audience is crucial for a film to be enjoyed; ‘Creed’, does this by including them in the film. By giving the crowd a rush of adrenalin, a dash of excitement, Coolger has made this film in a way where you are absorbed. All the film’s fighting scenes are intense and exciting, creating an emotional attachment with Adinos. You are hooked from the first punch because you feel you are apart of that fight, it becomes yours as
well. Another redeeming feature of the film is Sylvester Stallone’s character, Rocky Balboa. A nomination for an academy award was a worthy reward for reliving his most famous role. The raw passion as he breaks down over Adrian’s death is heartbreaking. His cool, calm and collected aurora is admirable. Determination oozes from his words creating a character that inspires. Even though Michael B. Jordan is the star, Stallone brings chemistry to the set, effectively performing the clique of an athlete and his mentor. That is something that is rarely done well. ‘Creed’ lives up to it’s prequels legacy, however there are still factors that should be critiqued. ‘Rocky’, is arguably the world’s best sporting film. ‘Creed’, mirrors the timeless tale however lacks some of it’s finer features. The underdog feel isn’t as present as it should be, I personally believed Adinos was not in his father’s shadow, but more aspiring to prove he was his father’s equal. Even though this isn’t a bad thing, it detaches some of the potential emotion from the film. Emotion is crucial for audience appeal and this movie could’ve been appealing to a wider audience if it had a little more. In comparison to a young Rocky Balboa, Adinos is a little dull, yet still quite lovable. Entertaining films are rare, yet ,‘Creed’, proved to be an exceptional. Capturing my imagination, the visuals were incredible.I experienced a fight for glory and absorbed all the passion of the atmosphere. The actors made the film so real and emotional, pushing my heart to beat rapidly as they felt pain and experienced success. Even though it didn’t live up to ,’Rocky’, it was fantastic regardless. A high recommendation is what this film deserves and I agree strongly with that fact.
Sex, love, depression, guilt, trust, all are topics presented in this remarkably well written and performed drama. The Flick, a 2014 Pulitzer Prize winning drama by Annie Baker, serves to provide a social commentary which will leave the audience deep in thought well after the curtain closes. Emporia State Universities Production of this masterpiece was a masterpiece in itself, from the stunningly genuine portrayal of the characters of Avery and Rose, to the realism found within the set, every aspect of the production was superb.
I am writing a film review on the 1976, classic movie Rocky. In this review I will explore the main character Rocky, along with secondary characters Adrian, Pauley, and Mick. I will compare Rocky’s self-concept and self-esteem to the secondary characters. Identify whether the characters are nourishing or noxious individuals. Finally, we will describe how the main character is perceived by other characters.

The movie started with Hitler ordering his army to kill Poland’s Jewish Citizen. During that time, the Polish Police worked closely with Nazis and they gave the whereabout of Bielski’s location. The Nazis successful found and murdered the parents of Bielski brothers. After this event, the two older brothers, Tuvia and Zus, took the two younger siblings, Aasel and Aron, in Belorussian forest to hide and find a shelter. While they were settling in the forest, they invited several other Jews who are escaping from Nazis and create a little community in the forest. As a result, group norms were formed
Moonlight is a motion picture with a tender, heartbreaking story of a young man's struggle to find himself, told across three chapters in his life as he experiences ecstasy, pain, and the beauty of falling in love, while grappling with his own sexuality and dealing with his more difficult past. Moonlight describes a touching way of those moments, people and unknown forces that shape our lives and make us the way we are. A major theme of Moonlight is the black male identity and its interactions with sexual identity. The motion picture combines acceptance and love with pain and narrow-mindedness. In it’s simplicity the movie is a chronicle of the childhood, adolescence and burgeoning adulthood of a young black man growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami.

“Raging Bull” (1980) is not a so much a film about boxing but more of a story about a psychotically jealous, sexually insecure borderline homosexual, caged animal of a man, who encourages pain and suffering in his life as almost a form of reparation. Martin Scorsese’s masterpiece of a film drags you down into the seedy filth stenched world of former middleweight boxing champion Jake “The Bronx Bull” LaMotta. Masterfully he paints the picture of a beast whose sole drive is not boxing but an insatiable obsessive jealously over his wife and his fear of his own underling sexuality. The movie broke new ground with its brutal unadulterated no-holds-bard look at the vicious sport of boxing by bringing the camera into the ring, giving the viewer the most realistic, primal, and brutal boxing scenes ever filmed. With blood and sweat spraying, flashbulbs’ bursting at every blow Scorsese gives the common man an invitation into the square circle where only the hardest trained gladiators dare to venture.
The Fight Club, directed by David Fincher, constructs an underground world of men fighting with one and other to find the meaning to their lives. Ed Norton and Brad Pitt are the main characters who start the fight club. They make a set of rules in which everyone must follow.
Although the film and the novel of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter highlighted different characters and other versions of Lincoln, they shared a commonality in the underlying themes discussed within the works that later helped to explain the alteration of his character as a result of the Twenty-First Century. One of the main themes shared between the works was the fight against oppression and injustice. An immediate connection was made between vampires and slavery: the reason for the imprisonment of the African American race in the South was due to vampires. The movie said that “killing a slave was not considered murder, no matter the circumstances” and went on to illustrate how this fact upset President Lincoln to the point where he wanted
The vision Christopher Nolan had for The Prestige (2006) was to add to the outbreak of street magician film, whilst playing a large dramatic subplot equal in grandeur to the magical performances within the film. In the final sequence of the film, I will analyse how the cinematography and sound helps to resolve the plot so that it summarises the themes present in the film, whilst also invoking a response from the audience. Nolan uses close up shots, non-diegetic sound (music) and dialogue collaboratively to convey the dramatic, personal subplot of the characters and their relationships, whilst appealing to the audience bringing forth an emotional response from the audience. The heavy, slow, dramatic atmosphere of the ending sequence uses various
A genre is a type or category of film (or other work of art) that can be easily identified by specific elements of its plot, setting, mise en scène, character types, or style. “The Mission” is based on a true story that occurred around the borderlands of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil in the years 1750’s according to the film and history. The Treaty of Madrid of 1750 with the Spanish and Portuguese caused both havoc and death for the people of the Guarini and the members of the Jesuits. The Jesuits, members of the church, tried to bring Christianity and civilization to the natives while keeping at peace with Spain and Portugal. The Jesuits were the teachers for the natives; Teaching them not only the Christian religion but also civilization. Father Gabriel, a Jesuit, is first introduced in the film when he is showing his respects to a former Jesuit priest killed by the natives. He walks through the South American
He starts following firm and strong in a style and way of thinking (boy full of good principles that had just won a government medal for his honor and participation in the 2nd war) which then, to protect your beloved father, changes completely Entering head in a world that he swore not be yours. This sudden change is also part of a big move (master Francis Ford Coppola, director), changing the protagonist of the first film: Marlon Brando stars as protagonist, being so famous Don Vito Corleone, while Al Pacino was just (not so just so) the son of Vito and protected in the course of the plot there is a change in the roles. When Michael Corleone finally becomes the Don Corleone and the Godfather, Marlon Brando, has its modified role, becoming the protégé of his beloved son, and the best - without reducing some of the significance of their
In the film “The Passion of the Christ” by Mel Gibson the life of Jesus Christ is portrayed to the audience using his interpretation of the historical moment in which Jesus Christ was crucified. In the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John the stories recounted about the life of Jesus Christ are different, because each one was centered to the particular needs of their community. By not following the Gospels word for word Mel Gibson is able to dramatically depict the mercy, love, and salvation Jesus Christ had for the children of God. In doing so Mel Gibson was also able to impact people and have them reflect on the sins they have inflicted on God.
We should never be afraid to take challenges if we wanted to achieve our goal and to be successful in life. In the movie, Adonis didn’t want to use “Creed” this name because people will compare him with his father – Apollo Creed, and he was scared that he was not able to make it. Nonetheless, he wanted to built his own legacy by using the name Johnson without relying on the popularity of his father. He was so striving with the burden that not only others gave him, but also the pressure that he gave to himself. After Adonis won Leo in the fight, the news that he’s the descendant of Apollo Creed made him became famous. When Adonis went to support Bianca
