Film Review #1 I am writing a film review on the 1976, classic movie Rocky. In this review I will explore the main character Rocky, along with secondary characters Adrian, Pauley, and Mick. I will compare Rocky’s self-concept and self-esteem to the secondary characters. Identify whether the characters are nourishing or noxious individuals. Finally, we will describe how the main character is perceived by other characters. When comparing all the character’s self-esteem, with the exception on Mick, they all have lower self-esteem in their own unique way. Rocky’s two components I noticed the most were affective and cognitive. There are tons examples throughout the movie to show examples of his low self-esteem. He’s very hard on himself …show more content…
They all seem to have a negative image about themselves, which reflects their self-esteem. With Rocky and Adrian, they are constantly being harassed. Adrian takes a lot verbal punishment from her brother Pauley. Rocky not only thinks he’s a bum, but is being constantly called one throughout the movie. One of my favorite lines, which I think describes the two perfectly, is when Rocky said, “I think we make a real sharp couple of coconuts, I’m dumb and your shy” (Winkler et al., 1976). Pauley constant drinking is a clear sign he is not happy with his like. Just like with self-esteem, it is difficult for me to answer this for Mick. During his visit to Rocky’s apartment, he revealed that he wished somethings in his life would have turned out different (Winkler et al., 1976). He really wants to manage Rocky to fill some of those …show more content…
When Pauley catches Rocky and Adrian talking about him, he breaks down and blames everyone for where he’s at in his life. He claims he sacrifices everything for everyone and gets nothing in return (Winkler et al., 1976). Rocky is not very confident and doesn’t think he is capable of much. When he’s being offered the title fight, he is not confident and wants to turn it down (Winkler et al., 1976). Neither of them are a positive person. I judged Mick on his relationship with Rocky, where he seemed noxious. He is always showing how disappointed in Rocky. Until Rocky got his title shot, he never said anything nice to him. Even then he made the comment that “there are other fighters that are better, it’s freak luck” (Winkler et al., 1976). Adrian was the only one I felt was more of a nourishing person. She was very good for Rocky and brought out a better side of him. He was able to open up to her and she would listen to him. After listening to reporter make fun of him he told her and Pauley it didn’t bother him. He later opened up and told her that “the stuff on the TV did bother me” (Winkler et al.,
When you look at mick in the beginning of the book you would probably see he’s an athlete. He was 175 pounds of mostly muscle and he was about 16 years old. Later in his story he became a 220 pound 17 year old boy made of pure muscle. You might mistake him for a bodybuilder. He really only has one good friend, named Drew. They view each other as friends, but they also get a friendly competition with each other when they play. Everybody else just see him as a high school running back for a really big and powerful highschool.
Luis’ words motivate and show Paul that he should stop fearing flat people like Erik and Arthur. Bloor reveals through Luis’ advice that Paul is forming into a more dynamic character. Paul realizes that Luis can help him get past his fear of them. Luis emphasizes to Paul that the boys are not all that they make themselves out to be, and he explains that by calling them “punks”.
Paul’s nickname was “ambition” because he was the only one with ambition in his life. Mike Otis is a main character that is certainly not popular at Don Carey High. He is an unusual person who is shy and he keeps to himself. He always wears a big raincoat and safety pins in his jeans. Mike is a dweeb who minds his own business.
One reason Mick wants to win in life is that he is always practicing to get on top and win. For example, on pg. 7, it says ¨In the off-season, my dad would sign me up for every football camp he could find.¨,
They are both worn out because their ideas didn't work. This is why some small problems turn into big ones. Each of them are beginning to lose patience because of the situation that they are in. At the very end of chapter four it is even worse than before.
The film, Fruitvale Station, is based upon a true story of a young, unarmed African American male, Oscar, who was shot by a Caucasian BART police officer. The film displays the final twenty-fours of Oscar Grant’s lives going through his struggles, triumphs, and eager search to change his life around. There will be an analysis of the sociological aspects displayed throughout the movie that show racism, prejudice, and discrimination.
Mrs. Lyons states “You see why I don’t want you mixing with boys like that! You learn filth from them,” after Eddie swears at her. It seems to confirm her stereotypical views about the nature of people who were less well off than her, which obviously includes how she sees Mickey to be. There is also a clear difference in the language and vocabulary that is used by both different sets of people. For example Eddie refers to his mother as “my mummy” which seems to be a rather mummy’s boy thing to say and a bit soppy and girly and also something a somewhat posh child would say.
There is no secret that films in the genre of biopic can often stretch the truth. These types of movies are frequently mere depictions of myth that is loosely based on factual accounts rather than being accurate representations of history. Many ethical dilemmas arise from these circumstances. Among those are the damaging representations that may skew a viewer’s perception of how history may have actually played out. Should filmmakers warn viewers that certain historical details of their forthcoming motion picture have been changed for the purpose of film? What are the editorial ethics when important details pertaining to vital pieces of history are left on the proverbial cutting room floor? The brand new film “Cesar Chavez” does a lot of work to bring about the often untold story of the California migrant farmworkers labor activism and organizing, yet in the process, manages to erase the pertinent contributions of the Filipino who many consider as the pioneers of these movements.
Rocky deliberately avoided the old time ways … he called it superstition.”(Silko, 51) By showing us how Rocky deliberately avoids the ways of his people, the traditions of his own family, Silko highlights the push for Native Americans to essentially become white. Rocky represents an entire generation that is being told that they need to completely renounce their way of life in order to be accepted by modern society. Part of this acceptance was also promised through participating in World War Two, as shown through the army recruiter “Anyone can fight for America… even you boys. In a time of need anyone can fight for her.”(Silko, 64) Silko uses the recruiter as a voice for opinions in the US, enticing its alienated cultures with a kind of equality. As the audience, we clearly know it is a temporary change, and Silko highlights this by mentioning “In a time of need”, but Rocky, a person already trying to embrace change, sees this as a chance to become equal to the whites. He as well as many others are fooled by the whites into thinking that positive change is happening, ironically, this promise of a better life leads to his fate. In a jungle nowhere near home, participating in a war, having nothing to do with his people, Rocky dies as a white man. By ending Rocky’s life in this way, Silko allows
In this paper I am going to write about the movie “Grease.” Specifically, on the two main characters Sandy and Danny. I will be describing and analyzing their interpersonal communication, but mainly on the conflict of their communication.
The fight club exists because individuals get weighted down by possessions causing them to miss the deep meaning of life. Most of the people in the fight club hold service jobs or lower level management jobs that are meaningless. Society becomes so rationalized that one must push themeself to the extreme in order to feel anything or accomplish anything.
A genre is a type or category of film (or other work of art) that can be easily identified by specific elements of its plot, setting, mise en scène, character types, or style. (Goodykoontz, 2014) The gangster film is a sub-genre of the broader genre of crime film. A genre main objective is to classify the depiction of entertainment. The genre of my movie is a gangster film. My movie I chose was Scarface. Directed by Brian De Palma. An update of the 1932 film, Scarface (1983) follows gangster Tony Montana and his close friend Manny Ray from their trip on the Cuban Boat Lift for refugees to their arrival in Miami. Gladiator (2000) is an action drama about a Roman general that is betrayed by his country and is forced to fight in the Colosseum. This particular scene, which runs for approximately 5 minutes, is the aftermath of the fight scene between Maximus, the betrayed general, and Commodus, the jealous emperor who betrayed him. This scene is not only significant because it is the concluding scene of the film, but also because it represents the end of Maximus’s enslavement and his coming to peace with dying.
We should never be afraid to take challenges if we wanted to achieve our goal and to be successful in life. In the movie, Adonis didn’t want to use “Creed” this name because people will compare him with his father – Apollo Creed, and he was scared that he was not able to make it. Nonetheless, he wanted to built his own legacy by using the name Johnson without relying on the popularity of his father. He was so striving with the burden that not only others gave him, but also the pressure that he gave to himself. After Adonis won Leo in the fight, the news that he’s the descendant of Apollo Creed made him became famous. When Adonis went to support Bianca
