After completing the reading on chapter 8, emotions, I was intrigued on how our emotions can alter our feelings and also how they are sometimes hard to manage as they can interfere with what we are trying to accomplish. One of the positives that I took from the chapter was the idea of the fallacy of perfection which is the ability for someone to handle a situation with confidence. With this idea it is important for us to admit that we are not perfect and that we do have flaws. From this we can better ourselves emotionally and socially because as the book says no one likes a know it all. Also, it is good to admit that you are wrong every once to show that yourself it is ok to be wrong. At my job I have told a customer that "I don't know" or …show more content…
Since you can reflect on your thoughts if you write them down you can further think about a topic or even revisit it later on. This is something common that we see in preteen girls. They usually have a journal full of things that happened to them and most of them are emotions. For example, they might talk about a fun trip or talk about a crush they have on a boy in middle school and later they might revisit this and say, "what was I thinking?" It is always good to write down your thoughts as you can allow yourself to open up more. Throughout the chapter I found some negatives and one of them was of restricting your emotions through the use of social media. Similar to what we have read in previous chapters this is another example in how social media is a bad way to communicate with others. When we speak to someone on social media they can see or feel our emotions to our words. They cannot grasp the feelings of the words that we are speaking and in return can cause a misunderstanding and what we are speaking. Social media sites have tried to improve this by offering the ability to add emoji's to further convey your thoughts but the only way to truly express your emotions in through your voice and body
3. After her last drinking spree, Karen hid a half-empty liquor bottle. She couldn't remember where she hid it until she started drinking again. Karen's pattern of recall best illustrates:
Who suggested that “we feel sorry because we cry . . . afraid because we tremble”?
3. According to Emily's grandfather, Adolf Hitler's obvious emotional instability made it clear that Germany would inevitably lose World War II. The grandfather's claim best illustrates:
Chapter 4 discusses the several states of consciousness: the nature of consciousness, sleep and dreams, psychoactive drugs, hypnosis, and meditation. Consciousness is a crucial part of human experience, it represents that private inner mind where we think, feel, plan, wish, pray, omagine, and quietly relive experiences. William James described the mind as a stream of consciousness, a continuous flow of changing sensations, images thoughts, and feelings. Consciousness has two major parts: awareness and arousal. Awareness includes the awareness of the self and thoughts about one's experiences. Arousal is the physiological state of being engaged with the environment. Theory of mind refers to individuals understanding that they and others think,
The human mind is one of the most complex structures the gods had created. It is difficult to understand each brain process as every human being possesses his or her own distinguished thought patterns with different levels of complexities. A person’s mind greatly influences his behavior, which eventually transforms into his habit by becoming embedded into his character. Today, the world of psychology tries to understand everything that a mind can create. However, even before the field of Psychology was introduced and brought into practice, some American writers threw a spotlight on the mechanism of the human brain in their works. On top of this list is an American writer, Edgar Allan
Bob and Dr. Marvin throughout the movie showed how they are different not only in positions in life but how they handle different situations. Both individuals are put into situations outside their comfort zone.
In John Updike’s “A&P”, a young man named Sammy is working at a supermarket in the early 1960’s, three teenage girls come in the store in their swim wear. The girls begins shopping, and are later told that they are not aloud to shop in the store due to the attire they chose to wear into the store. Sammy sees an opportunity to impress the girls, so he stands up to his boss. He quits his job, unties his apron in front of the manager, and walks out. Many call this story a bildungsroman, or coming-of-age narrative, because it displays the psychological or moral development of the protagonist, Sammy, from youth to maturity, once he recognizes his place in the world.
Referring to Disney, it is mentioned about the mythical creatures with funny, lovely, and very kindly characters. In contrast, the world of Marvel is all about superheroes, who have great appeal and extraordinary power. While the Disney focuses on the gentle, and fairly themes, the stories of Marvel superheroes attracts the audiences by dramatic content with unusual characters, who can do things that humans cannot. Big Hero 6 is the original story of Marvel which is transformed by the Disney Studio. Big Hero 6, therefore, is considered the mixed-blood son of Disney and Marvel, who inherits all the advantages of his parents: the peak of Disney animation, the “badass” and “like a boss” of

The development stages of an individual's lifespan are one of the most essential phases they can go through. During these stages the individual goes through not only physical maturity, but also cerebral, behavioral, and poignant growth. A character I have chosen is Sasuke Uchiha, one of the protagonists from the famous anime Naruto. In the anime Sasuke’s own brother kills off their whole entire clan by order, and leaves only Sasuke to live. Sasuke grows up hating his brother, and develops hatred throughout his childhood towards everything. Throughout the whole anime it is shown clearly how Sasuke developed, and how his choices affected his life.
For years, people wrote their loved ones letters. They let their words flow and express themselves. In recent years, social media has pushed these handwritten expressions aside. Most teens and young adults indulge in social media and other forms of digital communication as opposed to face-to-face conversations or even the passing of notes. Handwritten and digital communication may both effectively communicate some topics, but digital communication has made daily conversation dull over the years and has begun to disturb the genuine and emotion feel of verbal or handwritten communication.

Socializing is not just talking face to face, it’s our ability to interact, learn, and create original thoughts. Technology is hindering today’s youth and their ability to socialize is affecting their capacity to read, write, and communicate. Today’s youth depend on careful considerations for the implementation of technology. Our youth do not have the capability to convey their emotions through the use of technology, understand sadness, happiness or joy through simple text or emails. Communicating through the use of text, chat, and social network sites is lost using abbreviations and slang, inhibiting the use of the Standard English language.
Have you ever wondered why people have certain reactions? I chose chapter eight on emotions for my reflection paper because emotions are something that everyone has and feels, yet cannot always explain or react to in the way you would expect. Personally, I have never been great at responding to emotions in a way that I would not regret in the future. Thus, naturally being drawn to this chapter as a way to expand my knowledge on how to react to things more positively. I also wanted to learn why I feel a certain way after events that would not affect most people and be reassured about my feelings. Opposite to that, it is nice to see that, while not always productive, others have the same reaction habits. Overall, emotions are a complicated
The human experience involves five general perspectives on human behavior each of which emphasizes different factors. These are: The Neuroscience, which explores how human brain and physiology shape and control our behavior; Behavioral attributes, which explores the causes of behavior to a person’s environment and experiences, therefore focusing on observable behavior that can be measured objectively, rather than internal causes of behavior; Cognitive, focuses on how people think, comprehend , and know the world, and how our ways of thinking about the world influence our behavior; Humanistic perspective, this suggests that all individuals naturally strive to grow and develop, and control their lives and behavior . Psychodynamic, which purports behavior to be motivated by inner forces and conflicts about which we have little awareness and over which we have little control; and finally the Biological perspective. The premise behind the biological perspective in psychology is that all actions, feelings, and thoughts are associated with bodily events. " Biological psychologists examine how all of the electrical impulses , hormones, and chemicals flowing through the body can affect
