Have you ever wondered what the end of the world would be like? Sure you may have heard about the zombie apocalypse, but where did strange ideas like these come from. The Walking Dead, Call of Duty, Dawn of the dead ect. Many of our modern day myths as displayed in movies, TV Shows and video games are made famous by pop culture often have deep roots from myths of other cultures before us.
The Christian Apocalypse, also known as the end of the world is described in great detail by the Book of Revelation. Revelations is one of the most famous End of the World stories. The book itself is the last book in the bible, and is described as a scroll with seven wax seals. In the myth as the scroll unravels, a series of events unfolds. This begins with many wars, famines, diseases, and other heavenly signs to alert the world that the apocalypse is here. After series of natural disasters, a political ruler called the Antichrist will appear and will take control over the entire earth.
The Antichrist will be backed up by a great religious ruler, known as the false prophet. Together, the Antichrist and the false prophet will establish a worldwide social, economic and religious system that dominates the whole world. The only thing opposing them are the people of God and two prophets known as the two witnesses, who appear in Jerusalem and begin to speak out against the Antichrist and his rule. This is a passage from the book of Revelations from the 11th chapter starting at verse 3.
3 And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth. 4 They are “the two olive trees” and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.”5 If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and...

Pop culture always puts a spin on things, from modern art to the end of the world. Even though the concept of the zombie has become modernized and is now a large part of our culture, it’s really cool to learn where it all came from and where its roots in mythology actually began. We have all heard the modern day myth of the dead coming back to life and roaming the earth. But when we learn that the modern day concept came from myths created thousands of years ago have shaped the modern day culture that we live in it surprises everyone. The zombie has been a myth that is present in many cultures for thousands of years and will probably shape a modern myth of the future.
