Victoria Herrera Herrera 1 Ms. Wines AP Language Hour 1 5 May 2014 Should scientist test on animals? When an animals is given possibly harmful substances and used as test subjects are experiments that may harm them, then animal cruelty is present. For example, "extremely cautious chemicals are placed in the eyes of defenseless rabbits." This primitive testing method tends to kill of around half of the animals forced to participate. These tests are preformed on animals to ensure it's safety for human consumption. In addition, many scientist tend to depend on this method of animal testing. "More than one hundred million animals are killed in US laboratories." This includes rats, pigs, rabbits, birds, mice, reptiles, monkeys, fish, and many more. Furthermore, many of these innocent creatures are forced to inhale toxic fumes which lead to death, immobility, or burns on their skin. These tactics are clearly inhuman and are obvious violations of animal cruelty. Confined to cages they are isolated which causes psychological trauma. If these test were preformed on humans their would be a global outrage, why should animals have to suffer for our selfish benefit? Multiple test are preformed on the animal test subjects to confirm their safety for people to use the product. For example, Dermal Penetration, Acute Toxicity, and Draize Eyes are different types of tests used on the animal test subjects. Each tests determines how the product will react to each body part it is placed on. The Draize Eye test is performed on the eyes of rabbits to evaluate the damage the chemicals can cause. In addition, each one of these test leave the animal test subject in exc... ... middle of paper ... ...nuing to profit from the substaining usage of animals in scientific laboratories, the tradtional method is difficult to dispose of. The method is kept for the currency but fails to produce major reliable success as those of the alternative methods. A statisict shown in Safer Medicines Trust states, "that nindy-two percent of drugs fail in clinical trials, having successfully passed through animal studies." These corportaions care more about the amount of money profited than the reliablitily of the results from animal testing. With new alternatives and methods for the contribution the humanity the traditional style of animal testing is unessesary. With these new developments the lives of millions of animals can be spared from death and abuse. Scientsist can perform more reliable products without the hassle of failing the clinical tests with thier animal experiments.
Imagine a pet, or even a younger sibling, was being tested on, abused, and taunted. Many pets are considered apart of the family. What is enough? Who is going to put a stop to this? What extent should someone go to to protect their family, or even stop it all? While people think it is "okay" to kill animals if it betters the life of humans, it is not okay to abuse or kill animals for experimentations, because animals are living creatures, deserve rights, and the testing rarely benefits since animals do not have the same diseases as humans.
Hurting an animal is better than hurting a fellow human being right? Well imagine a child being ripped away from his mother in today’s society, for no reason. Would that be considered okay, or kidnapping? Imagine humans being forced to breed, just so their children can be tortured for makeup or a new facial wash. Would that be considered okay, or morally incorrect? People do not see animals as fellow living things, because they do not have the power to say no like a person can. They can’t stand up for themselves, leaving the people of the world to do it for them. Seeing that there are other ways to test out consumer products, why harm defenseless, breathing, loving, beings? With all things considered, animal testing “has no place in science today” (Goodall, 1).
Current animal testing has been a contentious subject ever since it started off 150 years back. Although a lot of people discover animal testing inhumane and egoistic, it is a important factor to boost our understanding of medication and to improve our understanding of science. Animal testing, to some, is the way to ameliorating our level of living and preserving many lives, and therefore has many benefits. On the other hand, the negatives may not be passed, and scientists are constantly trying to decrease the damages with some methods they create in the process. Even so, to the dismay of numerous animal lovers in addition to those who are endeavoring for animal rights, animal testing will not be stopped every time soon because, for now, it is the most trustworthy form of testing that includes the safety of daily products we use more carefully than any other procedure.
For many years, scientists have made numerous scientific advancements in the world. Over the years, scientists have been able to treat life-saving cures and beauty products that we now use in today 's society. Unfortunately, the only way that most of these scientists were able to get successful results, is at the price of animals ' lives. As a result of animal testing, over a million animals die and continue to suffer during testing and other experiments (PETA). Animal testing should be illegal because every life has value and testing on animals is cruel and inhumane.
There is a moral blind spot in the treatment of animals that enable us to justify the cruelties for the perceived benefits of humans. Animals are living things. They have lungs which breathe, hearts which beat, and blood that flows. In fact, animals sense of smell, sight, and sound is much more acute than our own. Therefore, we can assume that their sensitivity to pain is at least equal to ours. According to Hippocrates, “The soul is the same in all living creatures, although the body of each is different.” This can go with the Duty Theory that states that every individual gets treated the same. The intentions of animal testing is not to harm the animals, but that is exactly what it does.
“Over 1 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in U.S. labs” according to DoSomething.org. And although these animals may be considered protected under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) they are still able to be tortured and mistreated in labs. On top of all this, there is absolutely no guarantee that results and data collected from these procedures are accurate. Our anatomic builds are similar in ways but not at all interchangeable. Even though it has saved lives, animal experimentation should be banned because it is not a guarantee that these procedures are done pain free and humans and animals react differently to the medicines and chemicals used.
Animal testing can be really cruel thats why I’m against it. Every year more than 100 million animals die because of testing. About 90% of labs that are used for animal testing are not counted in the official statistics for the U.S.
To predict the effect it will have on humans, many different tests are performed on animals. A test created by John Draize, called the Draize eye test, is tested for eye irritancy. This test looks for the damage that chemicals may cause to the eyes. During the test, a substance is placed in a rabbit’s eye and the rabbit is observed in intervals. There are many consequences such as bleeding, ulcers, and blindness for up to three weeks and may even result in the death of the animal (aavs). Of the several experiments performed on animals for research purposes, they all appear to affect the animal
Animal testing has been used all around the world, but most countries have put an end to it except for some countries like the U.S. and China. Europe had stopped using animals for testing because it was inhuman and they urge the U.S. To do the same. Some of the testing they do on animals is not even necessary. We still use animals for testing, even though we have created new alternatives, could we really rely on the tests done on animals? Our Government pays way too much money for animals to be tested on.
Animal testing in scientific and commercial research has a long and controversial history. Some industries for example, as cosmetic manufacturers and pharmaceutical research companies treat animals to test their new products. Animals like rabbits, rats, monkeys, and many more are experimented in the research testing. Animals are not only restricted to product testing, but also needed by biology students to study body function, body parts and practice surgeries for learning and research. Animals are now protected by law; known as the Animal welfare act of 1966, this law regulates the treatment and protection of animals. “We have recently received the 2012 statistics for animals used in research under the Animal Welfare Act. Overall the number of animals used in research fell by 16% since 2010, falling over 180,000 from over 1.1 million (2010) to just over 950,000 (2012).” Animal testing has encouraged numerous achievements in solutions and guarantees that items are safe and secure before treating humans. This development has many advantages also but has a negative side. Many people consider these practices on animals as a cruel and indecent achievement. Animals should be used for research because during research procedure animal suffer very minimal pain and suffering. Animals search can be helpful as we are genetically identical and provide us cure from sever diseases (“American and Medical science”).
Animal Research: What is your opinion on animal testing? Do you think it’s right to test products that may be harmful to animals? I think it’s wrong and mistaken. As humans, we often don't see all the harm we cause to others. Animals have feelings too, just because they're an animal doesn't mean that they don't feel the pain.
Taking animal from its habitat and using him/her to test for new medication and household products is not right. Some of the testing is useless and scientists gain nothing (“List”). Even if an animal passes the experimentation for a new drug or product, it does not mean it will work because the way our body structure is created (“Should animals”).
Imagine a world where humans are the experiments being tested on all day long. While humans are the ones experimenting and doing their job, animals do their “job” and are the ones being tested. There are many animals that are currently being tested. Animals get tortured and even killed during the experiment. Before experiments, the animals were also treated horrifically.
Animal experimentation is contentious issue in today’s society that, whether it continue or should stop. Many animals such as monkey undergo painful suffering or even death as a result of scientific research for the sake of humans’ health. Among the animals monkeys are the main victims of the scientists’ experiments because of their human-like characteristics and physical process to humans. Monkeys’ similarities allow the scientists to test effectiveness of the new discovered drugs, food additives, and chemical and even cosmetics products. Although, such medical experimentations had helped scientists to produce vaccines, and medicines that are necessary for elimination of some deceases, but the test had negative medical effect on monkeys.
Thanks to the study of animals. We have now accomplished on finding many cures for humans who are in need of saving. Animals being used in research has increased percentage of humans being able to be healed.
