The sounds of torturous screams echo through the long, empty, steeled hallways. I can hear the sounds of an electric drill, and the shouting of people over the shrieking of screams. It sounds like they are doing a set of subjects today. I rock back and forth to keep my mind occupied, but it doesn’t work. The screams ferociously echo in my mind. Pounding my ears and creating a rising pain in my head. At this point, I might have already lost my sanity. My head spins uncontrollably and my craving stomach lets out a loud growl. I have to lean myself against the wall, after a week of not having food or water, I might as well be dead. The unlighted, windowless room and the stinging, cold air doesn’t help, but I’m able to balance myself onto …show more content…
I look outside to see a gang of scientists surrounding a patient lying limped on the bed; dead. His face is ashen and his eyes are dazed. His white gown is cut open, revealing an opened gash on his stomach. His sticky, red, blood slowly glides down his mouth. A slur of curses comes from the scientists as they look down at their failed experiment. I shakily move away and limp over to the empty corner of the room. Leaning my head against the cold, steeled, metal I check for any signs of my brother, Eight. I cancel out the sounds of torturous screams, and yelling scientists and zone in on my own breathing. I concentrate and I can hear the rhythmical breathing of my brother. He sensed me too and I can his heavy knocks against the metal, telling me that the coast is clear. Knock…..Knock…..Knock. I repeat his heavy knocks and withdraw from the wall. I hear the shifting of walls as he slowly opens up the wall. After seventeen years of being in this hell house, I’ve remembered the combination. Left, then right, then up, then left, and lastly, down. The shifting abruptly stops and then, I hear the grunting of Eight trying to push open the heavy slab of steel and I rush over to assist
SUMMARIZE: The article grants information on new models in cosmetics to take the place of animal experimentation. It goes on to talk about how the European Union has now banned using animal-based test for cosmetic reasoning. Pharmaceutical companies and regulatory agencies have been using computer-like tools to assess the toxicity it has for years. The author incorporates information on cosmetics and the outlook on further research. ‘According to experts, combination of laboratory-based with virtual work will be the future of testing and is progressing faster than they expected.” (87 words)
The “Red Death” has long devastated the country. No pestilence has ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood is its avatar and its seal—the redness and the horror of blood. There were sharp pains, and sudden dizziness, and then profuse bleeding at the pores, with dissolution. The scarlet stains upon the body and especially upon the face of the victim, were the pest ban which shut him out from the aid and from the sympathy of his fellow-men.
He screamed unceasingly, not for minutes but for hours. For the last three days he screamed incessantly. It was unendurable. I cannot understand how I bore it; you could hear him three rooms off. Oh, what I have suffered!"
Animal testing has been used for developing and researching cures for medical conditions. For example, the polio vaccine, chemotherapy for cancer, insulin treatment for diabetes, organ transplants and blood transfusions are just some of the important advances that have come from research on animals (“Animal Testing”). Consuming animals for research benefits in developing various treatments and also benefits in discovery better methods for cures. According to the article “Animal Testing”, it says that the underlying rationale for the use of animal testing is that living organisms provide interactive, dynamic systems that scientists can observe and manipulate in order to understand normal and pathological functioning as well as the effectiveness of medical interventions. It relies on the physiological and anatomical similarities between humans and other animals (MacClellan, Joel). Meaning that animals have the same body components and features as humans and is the best thing to research on to better understand the human development. Even though several argue that animal testing is harming the animals, one has to think back to all the benefits that has come from it. There may be a little remorse for endangering animal lives, but realizing how far medicine has come makes it worth the while.
The ethics behind using animals for experiments and tests has been questioned and debated for years. Many people believe that animal experimentations can be crucial towards medical breakthroughs such as the cure for cancer, HIV/AIDS or asthma. Meanwhile others argue that animals that are used to test cosmetics such as make-up and perfumes are inhuman because is not going to help improve the human race. Animals suffer through multiple types of torture such as being forced to ingest poisonous chemicals, blinded, burned, stapled, and infected with disease viruses. Even though animal experimentation may be considered inhumane to many, animal experimentation is crucial to advancements in medical research and can lead to a better quality of life; on the other hand, animal experimentation should not be used to develop cosmetics because such experimentation is cruel and unnecessary.
Every year over 100 million animals die in the US; the cause for these deaths, animal testing. This injustice to animals involves testing products such as medical drugs or makeup, on poor imprisoned animals that don’t have the ability to stand for their own rights as most of us do. Animals used for testing are given products that may result in burning, poisoning, or death. These animals are forced to live in confined spaces where they wait until the next horrible experiment. They are, tortured beyond imagination as they are sometimes even cut open while they are alive (know as vivisection), either with expired analgesics or even without them.
Throughout history, beginning as early as 500 BC, animals have been used to test products that will later be utilized by humans (“Animal Testing” 4), what isn’t publicly discussed is the way it will leave the animals after the process is done. Many innocent rabbits, monkeys, mice, and even popular pets such as dogs are harmed during the testing application of cosmetics, medicine, perfumes, and many other consumer products (Donaldson 2). Nevertheless, there are many people whom support the scandal because "it is a legal requirement to carry out animal testing to ensure they are safe and effective” for human benefit (Drayson). The overall question here is should it even be an authorized form of experimentation in the United States, or anywhere else? The fact of the matter is that there are alternatives to remove animals out of the equation for good (“Alternatives” 1). They are cheaper, and less invasive than the maltreatment of the 26 million innocent animals that are subjected to the heartlessness of testing each year (“Animal Testing” 4). All in all, due to the harsh effects of animal testing, it should be treated as animal cruelty in today’s society.
The night was tempestuous and my emotions were subtle, like the flame upon a torch. They blew out at the same time that my sense of tranquility dispersed, as if the winds had simply come and gone. The shrill scream of a young girl ricocheted off the walls and for a few brief seconds, it was the only sound that I could hear. It was then that the waves of turmoil commenced to crash upon me. It seemed as though every last one of my senses were succumbed to disperse from my reach completely. As everything blurred, I could just barely make out the slam of a door from somewhere alongside me and soon, the only thing that was left in its place was an ominous silence.
In an abandoned hospital, SO-YOUNG is kidnapped in the dark alley and tied to the operating table by several men. When the men are about to cut her open, they hear the sound of steel doors slamming from the hallway. In the hospital basement, there are body parts and corpses litter. The pile of corpses collapse and A CORPSE rises from beneath, walks towards the door, and enters the operating room. Its movement is very unnatural, and its eyes filled with hunger. The Corpse punches through the chest of the man and starts to devour them. So-Young faints, but when she wakes up after few moments, she sees the Corpse with healed flesh and blood running through his veins. So-Young begs for her life and the Corpse says he’s not interested in her since he can’t smell the scent of meat that came from the men from her. So-Young begs him that if he lets her go, she will help him find his memory back. They get out from the hospital and head out to a city.
The voices in my head become a swelling crescendo. I forcefully grab my head in between my hands as the words echo through my skull. Pain pulsates with every word. I squeeze my temples hard with my palms but the pain is unbearable. Clawing at my face, a scream rips through me; sapping every last drop of energy in my body. Like a rag doll, I collapse onto the cold concrete floor as a growing darkness overcomes me.
Forget studying, forget writing and solving problems, forget sleeping, because I am irritated. Each shrill note pierces my skull, drumming inside my head as though pressuring my brain. "Find me," it taunts, "if you can." Concentrating becomes isolated, like a special filter is funneling only the vibrato-filled song into my mind. Eyes wide and furious, I hunt, following the gnawing chirp. Listening with ears attuned only to the shriek, I creep so slowly, so focused my muscles ache with the strain.
A loud, familiar creaking erupts into the silence as I watch her open the cabinet door, knowingly locate the object, and place it gently into my hands. I stretch it out in front of my body, accustomed to the weight, and equip it for use. A door suddenly slams shut and footsteps heard in the next room betray the intruder's inconspicuous presence.
Glancing up at the sun, one last time to notice a faint shadow on the wall, my mind started to deteriorate, I couldn’t feel anything, but I could make out one coherent thought , it was telling me to sleep one last time. Hands on my back reawoken me, causing me to mentally panic. I eventually calmed down enough to try to understand what’s happening. A possibility of me being carried crossed my mind, but it seemed unlikely, or so I presumed.
When you are starting to conduct a research experiment, there are many things done previously to ensure quality and accurate results. Without all the regulations and checks it would be very easy for someone to just come up with an idea and create an experiment and publish their findings. But thankfully, there are procedures set in place so that you must have many different groups and different variables to ensure the validity of the experiment. In research, sampling is best described as a particular “groups” that are involved with the experiments. There is a rule that there must be a control group in order for the experiment to have validity.
Too late! He had heard me. Why had I been so stupid as to scream? I had lost valuable seconds and drawn negative forces to me.
