Do you know what is one of the biggest causes of greenhouse gas emissions? Chances are it is not what you would expect! Animal agriculture produces more greenhouse gasses than all different forms of transportation (Planes, trains, cars etc…). It is the leading cause of rainforest destruction and consumes about 30% of the earth's water. Being a vegetarian myself I believe that animal agriculture is barbaric and inhumane. Raising livestock is even worse for our environment. Animal agriculture is the earth's biggest killer.

Globally factory farming is a big problem that we don't realize. Every second about 1-2 acres (about the size of a football field) of rainforest are cleared for animal agriculture. Rainforests are essentially the earth's lungs they breathe in the nasty CO2 gasses and exhale oxygen. If an acre of land is cleared every second just imagine how many species are lost? It is estimated up to 110 different species are lost every day due to rainforest deconstruction. Animal agriculture also is bad for us. Did you know according to a UN study 82% of starving children live in countries where food is fed to animals. Most of these countries produce enough food to feed everyone in their land. According to government statistics, there were nearly 3.7 million beef cattle, over 6.4 million dairy cattle, and over 30 million sheep in New Zealand in June 2013. All animals which produce methane gas in their byproducts which have 86 times the global warming potential of CO2!. If there are only 9 million cows here think how many cows there are globally? And the amount of methane gas released. It has shown that if you reduce the amount of methane gas pollution the pollution level will go down really quickly whereas if you reduce the amount of CO2 gas released it will take years until you see any signal of
