Hmmm…this was a very interesting letter written by John Winthrop to Sir Nathaniel Rich and is definitely very different from Sebastian Brandt’s letter describing Jamestown. Winthrop is the first governor (and very proud!) of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and clearly wrote this letter with authority and confidence. As the governor, he also had the “burden” to prove to the audience, in this case, Sir Nathaniel Rich, a wealthy Puritan sympathizer in England, that the Colony was thriving and in good condition. In contrast, Winthrop’s 1631 letter to his wife had a much different tone. In it, he wrote that the Massachusetts colony was not faring well until a ship bearing supplies finally arrived. The setting of a story lays the foundation for how a story is constructed. It gives a sense of direction to where the climax is headed. The setting also gives the visual feedback that the readers need to picture themselves into the story and comprehend it better. Determining the setting can be a major element towards drawing in the reader and how they relate to a story. A minor change in the plot can drastically alter to perception, interpretation, and direction of the message that is delivered. For as long as I can remember, the week after Thanksgiving my father would get up even earlier than usual, get all bundled up in his camouflage clothes, and head up into the woods bright and early. I wasn’t exactly sure why this morning routine was so mundane compared to his usual work day routine, but as I grew older I would begin to understand. Jimmy is being faced with real life situations at the school he attends. The school is diverse; there are students of color and even females in his classroom. Jimmy’s family and the school make sure to stress to Jimmy that people do look different from one another, this is a precaution so Jimmy is not surprised or unexpected by diversity. Overall, Jimmy’s school does a good job in involving the parents and family members of the student. Jimmy also has an annual family day where last spring there were recreational activities such as dancing, playing tag, and a BBQ. The school does very well with having the family involved. My experience at Oak Park Elementary was an experience I will not forget. Oak Park is a school that has a great amount of diversity within their system. While there was a vast measure of diversity there was some similarities within the student body. Majority of the student body is the same race, with a few other that are a different ethnicity. The letter that Skylar had been waiting on for a while finally arrived. It’s his acceptance letter to The Fort Valley State University 1890 land-grant institution. This is the conversation we had on the bus ramp early one morning as Skylar was entering the building. Skylar has been one of my best agriculture students for the last four years. He is dedicated and has a strong willingness to succeed. Since the first day of my class he has always had a dream to attend college, but because he was a special needs student and money was a problem he wasn’t sure he would be accepted. In the front of a fourth-grade classroom, there sits the ever-smiling face of a little girl.
