In the movie of “Surviving The Andes Plane Crash” is based on a true story about a rugby team, thats plane crashed in the Andes mountains close to Chile. When this crash happened many of the team members took initiative and showed many leadership skills and traits. The main ones that were used were Enthusiasm, Courage, and Selflessness.
On October 13, 1972 this plane crashed in the Andes mountains. On this plane there was 45 people in total including the rugby team. When they crashed 12 died when they hit impact and 5 died the next morning from major injuries and from the cold. One of the main characters that had a role in this rescue was Nando Parrado. He showed a lot of courage but making a 10 day hike to civilization to get help for himself and the others. He made many sacrifices by making this hike he could've died, starved or much worse by freezing to death but he took initiative for himself and all the survivors. I will apply this in my life by not only caring for myself but also having care for others and by making sure they're well being is good.

Robert Canessa was one of Nando's good friends.
He showed a lot of courage aswell because he also went on the 10 day hike with him. Canessa showed a lot of Enthusiasm because right when they made it to the top of the mountain and realized there was nothing else but mountains Nando wanted to give up but Vanessa didn't let him give up. Canessa told his best friend “ we've done a lot together so how we about we do one more thing together before we die together” Robert Canessa. I will apply this to my daily life by showing Enthusiasm by not giving up in academics or in sports or in my daily routine and i will motivate those with no
motivation. The last leadership trait that was shown in this film and story was Selflessness. This was showed a lot all round all the people that had survived the crashed they all helped each other out and also shared food when they didn't have to but they did. This was also shown when some of the people gave up some of their food to those who were close to death. Another way this was shown was Nando gave the rest of the people authorization for them to eat his dead mother and sister. I will apply this in my daily life helping those people that don't have much. I will help the people that can't help themselves and also the homeless by donating food and money so they can better their lives. This was a tragic story about those who died on the plane but the people who died or didn't die showed amazing initiative in a time of major crisis by showing Courage, Enthusiasm when there was no hope and selflessness when there wasn't much to go around.Everything these people showed that day i will put to work in my daily life for the rest of my life.
On November 28, 2004 at about 10:00 a.m. mountain standard time, a Canadair (now Bombardier) CL-600-2A12 (Challenger 600), tail number N873G, crashed into the ground during takeoff at Montrose Regional Airport (MJT), Montrose, Colorado. The aircraft was registered to Hop-a-Jet, Inc., and operated by Air Castle Corporation doing business as Global Aviation. (Insert Here)The flight was operating under Part 135 Code of Federal Regulations. The captain filed the flight under an IFR Flight plan. Of the six passengers on board, three died from fatal injuries and the other three sustained major injuries. The aircraft was totaled due to the impact with the ground and a post-crash fire.
Individuals often experience unfortunate sufferings and difficulties through their life; some may continue to persevere and endure these arduous circumstances in hopes of achieving a more desirable, comfortable way of living. While attempting to fulfill their own objectives, individuals may also unexpectedly receive the attention and assistance from others which instigates a change in their previous attitude towards life. In the short story “Divisadero”, Michael Ondaatje suggests that when individuals receive unexpected forms of kindness and understanding from others, they may suddenly realize their own individual potential and capabilities they possess as they aspire to attain greater possibilities and goals. These unforeseen acts of compassion
To conclude, Lee and Mathabane both illustrate courage as someone who ventures and endeavors to achieve something that is impossible. Lee exemplified that courage is not a man with a gun, but someone who has been licked before, they even began. Mathabane shows courage as trying to become a good tennis player even though virtually impossible for a black. Mathabane also shows the courage of his fellow blacks when he talks about and illustrates the struggle against apartheid, even though education is the only way out. Lee, Mathabane, and even John show that courage is more about trying even
Sustenance and resilience through obstacles in life is actually what build character and the personal identity of individuals, along with cultivating determination, and hard work. In Divisadero Marie-Neige singularly adopts the duties of the farm after her husband is imprisoned. Through her organized and concentrated efforts and with additional help of books she is able to overcome her obstacles and creates an identity for herself as a strong and independent woman. Similarly, Mahatma Gandhi surmounted his own adversities by bringing forth and fostering his dedication and his undying will which led him to becoming an icon for millions who served as a ray of hope for a better
One of these ways was rejoining the Air Force even after he knew he was afraid of flying. This shows courage because he faced what he was afraid of to help his country. He could have done anything else with his time but he chose to rejoin the Air Force. He was also selected to be a bombardier which showed how valuable he was to the Air Force. He was one of the top shots while on his base in Hawaii. He also showed courage by being willing to push his body to running his last lap on the track in the Olympics as one of the fastest ever. This shows that he was willing to push his body to fatigue and keep fighting to do whatever was necessary for his country.
Courage is an act of sacrifice that allows you to face danger without showing fear. A time he showed courage was when he threw the first punch at the rumble between the Greasers and Socs. He threw the first punch for pride, he threw it for loyalty, but he was courageous while doing so. As Ponyboy stated on page 142, "... He was ashamed to be on our side..." It took a lot of courage to throw the first punch being on a side you were ashamed of being on. He was ashamed because the person he punched was what he could've been and that crushed Darry. It would take a lot of courage to look after two adolescent boys while they are growing up. Darry could've gone to college, become a national football player and have a better life than what he had. Darry instead sacrificed that to keep his brothers together after the death of their parents. If Sodapop and Ponyboy could stay together, Darry would've gone to college. Darry was incredibly courageous to give that up for his brothers.
Norman Schwarzkopf Jr, a famous war soldier once said, "The truth of the matter is you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it." Although society has the potential to help others in need they restrict themselves from doing the right thing. But when society is challenged with a problem only some step up against to the odds to make a difference. Throughout history, during times of devastation and separation there are people that show a ray of light that gives people hope during the darkest times.
A brave hero often risks his/her lives to save someone else. In Zeitoun, Dave Eggers tells us a story of Abdulrahman Zeitoun, the hard working Syrian American owner of a contracting company in New Orleans. Zeitoun and his wife Kathy ran the company together. They have three children named Nademah, Safiyah, Aisha. Kathy has a child from her first marriage. Zeitoun is very closed with his family and he takes his family like nobody else. When hurricane Katrina landed in 2005, endless number of people were affected. Mayor Nagin ordered a first time ever mandatory evacuation. Kathy moved with the children to her sister’s house in Baton Rouge. Zeitoun refused to leave with his family because he didn’t want lose his properties, but at the same time, his customers trusted him and gave him their house keys to check on their houses, which caused his separation with his family. This illustrates that Zeitoun is a responsible, powerful, trustworthy, and unselfish person. During the hurricane, Zeitoun was using a canoe rescuing people. Due to the lack of rescue work, many people didn’t get enough supports at that time. Zeitoun had the courage to sacrifice his family, safety, and selfish needs for saving the people.
Zamperini found small victories that helped him to get through the day and through the journey. Surviving for the next hour was a great example about learning to focus on the the now – not the future. He wasn’t focused on not getting out of camp and home before the holidays, but on staying in the moment and surviving that moment. Small victories lead up to the big ones in ALL situations.
Tragedy strikes at every hour of the day, no matter where in the world a person lives. The true test of a person’s humanity is how they handle the tragedy. All over the country, people are hit with life-changing catastrophes and feel hopeless. Taking their feelings out on others around them who are just trying to help, their pain translates into the bad traits of humanity such as selfishness, conceitedness, and unreliability. Others, though, work through their struggles and show the world how strong they can really be.
Day by day, individuals are faced with challenges that lead to extremes. People confront hurdles while achieving everything they are obligated to do. Every day, ordinary people are to some extent heroes. It is normal for people to face obstacles and barriers when performing their duty of duty. But within those people, the ones that do not quit due to their frustration are the real heroes.
When I stepped into the large neatly organized white polished plane, I never though something would go wrong. I woke up and found myself on an extremely hot bright sunny desert island filled with shiny soft bright green palm trees containing rough bright yellow hard felt juicy apples. The simple strong plane I was in earlier shattered into little pieces of broken glass and metal when crashing onto the wet slimy coffee colored sand and burning with red orange colored flames. After my realization to this heart throbbing incident I began to run pressing my eight inch footsteps into the wet squishy slimy light brown sand looking in every direction with my wide open eyes filled with confusion in search of other survivors. After finding four other survivors we began moving our small petite weak legs fifty inches from the painful incident. Reaching our destination which was a tiny space filled with dark shade blocking the extreme heat coming from the bright blue sky, I felt my eyelids slowly moving down my light colored hazel eyes and found myself in a dream. I was awakened the next day from a grumbling noise coming from my empty stomach.
There is another type of hero that almost no one is aware of. In the poorest areas of the country, live mostly minorities and other ethic background. All their lives they’ve been expected to work harder and expected not succeed in life. Some individuals living in poverty with a determination to succeed work hard all of their lives to become what everybody doubted they could. Escaping the crime, drugs, and prostitution is enough to escape hell, even if they don’t go to college. Despite of their financial problems, drug and crime surroundings, or difficulties in the language skills, their desire to triumph fuels their persistence. Those who make it to success are the few living examples of the purest form of hero anyone can be. They are not only their own heroes but also the heroes of the poor children who dream of becoming like them someday.
For instance, it was an extremely sunny day in Ghana, West Africa, and I had gone out to the well to fetch water. It was while carrying the bucket of water on my way back that I noticed my neighbor’s children fighting over the insufficient amount of food that they had to share. My family and I were not rich but from what I saw, I knew that we were better off than other people I knew. I carried the bucket of water inside the house and came back outside to call the two youngest children that were fighting over the last grain of food. I shared my food my food with them and though it was not sufficient for all, feeding the younger ones alone was better than not helping any one of them at all. There was only little that I could possibly do but by sharing, I had helped them in a great way, even if it was just for the time being.
In today’s society, heroes are needed because mankind sees them as inspirational role models. For example, firefighters, police officers, and soldiers, sacrifice themselves everyday in order to protect citizens as well as the country. Firefighters risk their lives in order to save people from burning buildings. During the terrorist attack of 9/11, Mike Kehoe scaled 93 floors to save the people that were trapped in the
