The heroes of today deceive us all with happy endings, which is the exact opposite of what we need to survive today's dangers. We delude ourselves with Hollywood fantasies instead of facing the troubles of the world like the ancient heroes did. Heroes are usually defined by the eye of the beholder throughout time since people's values change, which generates a multitude of interpretations of what a hero is. According to the modern Merriam Webster dictionary a hero is “an illustrious warrior” who is “often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability” which holds true in countless cases but not all. For one thing, in media studies a hero isn’t a warrior of divine descent, but a primary character who represents ‘good’, and faces an ‘evil’ represented as a villain. For instance the Disney heroes are giving children an unreal standard about the outside world. Such as that everything won’t end in a happily ever after, no one will stay the size of a twig or be super ripped forever and cheating is permitted. Also, if people learn morals and characteristics of ancient heroes then people might be more considerate of others. So if people only knew this as a truth, then they may have issues with self image, attitude and such. However, if viewers were informed of morals and plights present in ancient myths then they may be more adeptly adjusted to their surroundings. Even though the heroes of the ancient past were facing fantastical odds, the morals of their stories were, in many ways, much more human. Granted that fairy tales are nice and wonderful, they distract us from the realism that is our world. Allowing us to face this authenticity, people like ancient hero’s would lead us to a well adjusted
