Only A Northern Song In the movie, Yellow Submarine, it is mainly about a place called the Pepperland that was destructed by the Blue Meanies. Before the Blue Meanies attacked, Pepperland was full of joy, happiness and fun. Although it is about the transformation between happy to sad, this movie has a significant meaning behind it that can be identified through the songs, which were written by The Beatles. Additionally, the songs show great meaning of what was occurring within the Beatles time. During the late 1960s, it is shown that the band was in trouble, which later led to the band splitting. With that occurring came the song, Only A Northern Song. Based on the song, there are many views on the songs. There’s my personal view, The Beatles …show more content…
So in the song I believe that it tells the listener that the band was going through a conflict which later led to the band's’ breakup. In this quote from the song, “you may think the chords are going wrong, but they’re not” and “you may think the band are not quite right, but they are” I saw it as a message from Harrison that one of the band members is missing but they are ok without him. However, even though they are missing a member, “It doesn’t matter what clothes I wear what words I pair, or if my hair is brown” the song will still end up the same because they are the same band. “If you think the harmony is a little dull and out of key you’re correct cause there’s nobody there” since they are missing a person they are missing one instrument which makes it sound different. My whole interpretation of the song is that the lyrics shows foreshadow that the band will eventually come to end because they had so much …show more content…
It was basically a “joke relating to Liverpool, the Holy City in the North of England.” Although it was a joke, it also “served as a complaint against the dominance of the Lennon-McCartney partnership.” In a quote by George Harrison, he states that he “realized Dick James had conned” him out of the copyrights for his own songs by offering to become his publisher. Harrison had soon realized what was happening when the songs were going “public” and the other band members and publisher was making “all the money.” The Beatles Bible explains that George Harrison was only writing the song as a joke to get back at what the Northern Song and his band, which they took away the rights to put his name on his song and earn money from it . Their interpretation was basically revenge on those who took away his
For example, one line, “Soon our pilgrimage will cease; Soon our happy hearts will quiver, with the melody of peace,” which is saying that one day we will die, and you can’t stop that. “Lay we every burden down; Grace our spirits will deliver, and provide a robe and a crown,” also reveals that you should appreciate what we’ve had, and what was given to us. This song is telling you, in every line, that you can’t live forever, but appreciate what you have, while you
The analysis of this song lead me to actually dislike the song because I found that my first impression of the song was much different than after analyzing it for weeks. I love the bands music but I just don't like this one particular song. I guess there are many ways to interpret this song but I feel as if the song is way to deep in thought for a singer such as Dave Matthews. As Dave stated at one of his concerts, "Some people drink, and some don't; some people like to smoke a bowl, and some don't. Some people do and some people don't but its ok `cause it was ment to be that way." Dave Matthews is no Wordsworth, but its ok because it was meant to be that way!
The song was written to motivate young men to join the army, idealizing soldiers as patriotic “son[s] of liberty” who would make their fathers, girlfriends, and country proud. The US soldiers are shown as the liberators of
They were physically attacked in Japan and their records were burnt in the Bible Belt after John Lennon made a passing comment, that “Christianity was in decline and the Beatles were ‘more popular than Jesus’”. The Beatles ' lack of interest in public live performances resulted in them being focused on studio recordings and cease all touring. “With a little help from my friends” is from Beatles’ counterculture album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which was released in June 1967. Now a studio only band, the Beatles were free to experiment with sounds, ideas, instruments, and style. This album was a game changer- the counter culture album was a precursor to psychedelic rock. Drug references, Indian music, and layered studio effects contributed to the different nature of the album. The album was a concept album that set up the idea of community- the opening song was Sargent pepper acknowledging the listener to come take a part of this experience. The album was conceived as a performance, even though the Beatles did not intend to play live again. The sound experimentalism had no rules of melody or harmony and used sounds of nature, instruments, and voices on the tracks. The song itself was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney specifically for Ringo Starr to sing. Due to Starr’s nasally limited vocal range, the song is a simple tune with a limited range. John Lennon and
I believe that this does a fantastic job when it comes to showing the metaphorical meaning behind these lyrics. In conclusion, I believe that the way that I interpreted the lyrics to: “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” shows the deeper meaning on how I see it. Just because I see it one way does not mean that other people cannot see it a different way. That is the great thing about analyzing songs is that the person analyzing it can express freedom and their opinions on the
The Beatles and the Beach Boys are two of the most recognized, well-known and most popular musical acts of the 1960’s right through to the 1970’s. I will be focusing on the group acts rather than solo performers such as John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison of the Beatles, who took their own stylistic approach to their music after the Beatles’ separation. Each group’s arrangement and use of instruments classify them as part of the overall associated sound and typical subject matter of songs in the 1960’s, yet remain different enough to distinguish between each group’s desired sound.
To understand Lennon’s attempt at displaying his raw emotions through this song, one must also understand the influence behind Lennon’s decision. Bob Dylan influenced all of the Beatles in a significant way in their early Beatlemania years: Dylan introduced the Beatles to marijuana, mistaking “I can’t hide” for “I get high” in “She Loves You”. While the Beatles experimented with several energy drugs, they had not yet used marijuana, and they soon discovered that it bestowed the group with the ability to relax and escape from the stress of dealing with Beatlemania. After ...

In 2016, Bob Dylan won the Nobel prize for literature. Dylan was a famous musician who was always considered to not be the best at playing any one instrument. Dylan was also noted for not being the best vocalist either. So how is it that a musician like Bob Dylan who wasn’t known to be the best at any one instrument or the best vocalist; remain relevant and continue to release music from 1962 all the way until present day, 2018? Many people claim that Dylan’s long lasting fame is due to his ability to move people through his song writing. Bob Dylan attributes his ability to write to inspirational artists such as; Buddy Holly, Lead Belly, early folk musicians, and the book’s; Moby Dick, All Quiet on the Western Front, and The Odyssey. Dylan’s
When people think about the 60’s the majority of them all think about the Beatles. The Beatles is a band that made Rock and Roll a totally, different type of music. Even though The Beatles were such a hit, as time went on they started to fall apart. Over 50 years later, the Beatles are still classified as one of the best band of all time.
The Beatles wrote hundreds of songs throughout their long career and many of which had the same main ideas in them. Those two ideas seem to standout in most of their songs, and they are the ideas of peace and love. They were so passionate about these two ideas especially world peace, that they became avid participants and leaders in the anti-war movement, against the War in Vietnam. It seemed strange ...
Considering altogether setting, figures of speech and tone we can finally conclude what is this song is about.
Yes, it is a very negative part but it might be the best part. You never know what life is going to bring you. This breakup song could change your whole life around, help you move on. The negative view is that you just got dumped and you are left alone. That feeling is awful, there is a pit in your stomach that you don 't know how to fill. No one can help but yourself. I think this song is for you to realize that everyone is lonely at some point, that you can move on and get over whatever it is. The line “Never thought the day would come where you would get up and run and I would be out chasing you.” That was my favorite because it shows that he messed up and now he’s realizing what he had now that its
