Only A Northern Song In the movie, Yellow Submarine, it is mainly about a place called the Pepperland that was destructed by the Blue Meanies. Before the Blue Meanies attacked, Pepperland was full of joy, happiness and fun. Although it is about the transformation between happy to sad, this movie has a significant meaning behind it that can be identified through the songs, which were written by The Beatles. Additionally, the songs show great meaning of what was occurring within the Beatles time. During the late 1960s, it is shown that the band was in trouble, which later led to the band splitting. So in the song I believe that it tells the listener that the band was going through a conflict which later led to the band's’ breakup. In this quote from the song, “you may think the chords are going wrong, but they’re not” and “you may think the band are not quite right, but they are” I saw it as a message from Harrison that one of the band members is missing but they are ok without him. However, even though they are missing a member, “It doesn’t matter what clothes I wear what words I pair, or if my hair is brown” the song will still end up the same because they are the same band. “If you think the harmony is a little dull and out of key you’re correct cause there’s nobody there” since they are missing a person they are missing one instrument which makes it sound different. It was basically a “joke relating to Liverpool, the Holy City in the North of England.” Although it was a joke, it also “served as a complaint against the dominance of the Lennon-McCartney partnership.” In a quote by George Harrison, he states that he “realized Dick James had conned” him out of the copyrights for his own songs by offering to become his publisher. Harrison had soon realized what was happening when the songs were going “public” and the other band members and publisher was making “all the money.” The Beatles Bible explains that George Harrison was only writing the song as a joke to get back at what the Northern Song and his band, which they took away the rights to put his name on his song and earn money from it .
