This essay will be about the book called Food Inc written by Karl Weber. The topics of this is essay will be based on obesity, pesticides, and animal farming. The discussion of this paper will be the problems of the topic in the first paragraphs and the second paragraphs will be about the solutions for the topic issues which is happening in the US. Each topic will be going in depth about the issues that is happening today with the food we are consuming each day. Obesity crisis is currently increasing dramatically over the years. Researchers are discovering that pesticides have caused cancer and other illnesses. Animal farming is becoming a big issue about how top 4 companies own 80 percent of the market and what we are eating today. Those were glimpses of what will be further explained in this paper.

The obesity crisis is turning out to be a huge issue today in America. According to CDC, more than one third of the adults from the US are obese. Those related conditions consist of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and many others. Also from CDC, the estimated medical cost of obesity in the US annually was $147 billion in 2008. Nowadays, obesity is spreading to the children because of the fast food industry targeting the younger audience to their food. Fast food was created very cheap and turned out to be one of the main causes of obesity. People are now consuming way too many calories and the calories that they are consuming from fast food is all fat calories. All of the ingredients have no nutritional quantity for the body. Finally in conclusion, the topics that were talked in this paper where obesity, pesticides, and animal farms. The obesity crisis is rapidly increasing because of neglecting of a well-balanced meal, making effort to workout, and considered to spurge more on the supermarket than at a cheap fast food restaurant. Next topic was pesticides which workers are developing pesticides poisoning, linked to cancer, and all of the pesticides need to be removed and must develop a safer way of pest control. The last topic was animals farms, animals should be treated respectively and have better staying conditions before they are getting slaughtered.
Food Inc. is a documentary displaying the United States food industry in a negative light by revealing the inhumane, eye opening, worst case scenario processes of commercial farming for large corporate food manufacturing companies. Food Inc. discusses, at length, the changes that society and the audience at home can make to their grocery shopping habits to enable a more sustainable future for all involved.
In the documentary, Food Inc., we get an inside look at the secrets and horrors of the food industry. The director, Robert Kenner, argues that most Americans have no idea where their food comes from or what happens to it before they put it in their bodies. To him, this is a major issue and a great danger to society as a whole. One of the conclusions of this documentary is that we should not blindly trust the food companies, and we should ultimately be more concerned with what we are eating and feeding to our children. Through his investigations, he hopes to lift the veil from the hidden world of food.
In the introduction, the reader is given an immediate feel of the essay is about and is already clear on the purpose of the article which is to guide the reader to “Eat responsibly”. The writer avoids any errors of fact and any misinterpretation or misrepresentation of any facts. In compliance with the essay the title “The Pleasures of Eating” relays the thoughts of the author as he suggests that the true “Pleasure of Eating” is in the process, from personally growing the food to preparing it and knowing fully well the hard work and preparation needed to put the food on the table. FOOD Inc. is a film that goes deeper into the food that we consume every single day, and also gives us insight on the origin of our food from the average farmer to the corporations that have almost made a monopoly in agriculture. However, Robert Kenner exposes the corrupt ways food companies treat animals and the way food is being produced, and overall, the need to make our voices heard that we need to make a change when it comes to what we eat and how we eat. Throughout the past years and more here recently obesity has become a fast growing problem in the United States and around the world. Since this has become such a problem certain authors are starting to take a stand in how they think the solution should be fixed. The solutions are discussed in the following articles: How Junk Food Can End Obesity by David H. Freedman and What You Eat Is Your Business by Radley Balko. Both articles have clear and distinct arguments, but the argument by Balko entices his readers and has a clear purpose and tone that allowed his article to be more effective.
One out of every three Americans is obese and the majority of these obese people in the United States have eaten regularly at fast food restaurants. As the obesity rate increases, the number of fast food restaurants goes up as well. Although it is not certain, many believe that obesity in the United States is correlated to eating fast food. Since the United States has the highest obesity rate out of any country, it is important for Americans to monitor the fast food industry that may be causing obesity. With the pressure to get things done in a timely manner, fast food became a big necessity. However, when creating fast food restaurants, the industries were not thinking about the negative effects such as obesity. Other than obesity, other harmful effects exist as well. Fast food restaurants serve unhealthy products such as greasy foods and artificial meat that lead to dietary health issues in many adults and children. A recent study showed that “Young children who are fed processed, nutrient-poor foods are likely to become unhealthy teenagers, and eventually unhealthy adults. Now twenty-three percent of teens in the U.S. are pre-diabetic or diabetic, 22% have high or borderline high LDL cholesterol levels, and 14% have hypertension or prehypertension” (May, Kuklina, Yoon). The food that they provide is made to be eaten quickly, causing problems for the digestive system. Also, the health problems lead to the use for health insurance, which adds to the costs of Medicare. Health care costs will only worsen an already failing economy. Therefore, the government should regulate fast food restaurants in the United States in order to repair the deteriorating health and economy in America.
Obesity is an epidemic in America, greatly impacting youth, the health care system, and economically vulnerable populations. Among all of the high-income countries in the world, obesity rates remain the highest in the US. According to Harvard, US obesity rates have more than doubled since 1980, although they have remained the same since 2003. (Harvard School of Public Health) Approximately 31.9% of children and adolescents from the ages of 2 to 19 are obese or overweight (NPLAN), while roughly 69% of adults fall into the category of overweight or obese. In the documentary, “Food, Inc.”, states that the food industries are controlling everyone’s food and must make changes to make it safe for all.
