The Vermentino grape, which is used to make Vermentino wine, is grown along the Mediterranean coastline of France and Italy. It is also known for growing on the coastlines of the islands of Sardinia and Corsica. The birthplace of this wine is a little unclear to most but it is indicated that it was originally grown in Italy, which is why it is primarily found in Italian wines. During the growing season, the grapes are typically grown on slopes facing the sea where they can benefit from the additional reflected light. The reflective light is why Vermentino is often grown along the coastline. Vermentino is a light skinned grape, typically having an amber yellow or a pale straw color. The grapes hang in pyramidal bunches off of the vines. …show more content…
This is important because this affects what dish the Vermentino should be paired with. By focusing on the Sardinia Region we are able to narrow down what the best pairing for this wine would be. The Vermentino wines produced in Sardinia are mostly fresh dry white wines with aromas of fruit and minerality. Depending on the wine the aromas can be more or less intense. Since the Sardinian Vermentino is produced on an island with Mediterranean climate it pairs well with Mediterranean food such as fish and seafood. The more delicate and less intense Vermentino would pair well with a baked fish with a side of grilled vegetables. Flounder is a delicate fish and is similar to the Vermentino wine. A recipe that would go well with this wine includes ingredients, such as: basil, garlic, salt, pepper, tomato, and olive oil. It would be good to serve this dish with a lemon slice or two and grilled vegetables. The lemon can be lightly squeezed over the fish once it’s baked. The lemon and tomato adds some acidity and freshness to the wine that the Vermentino carries also. If too much pepper is added to the fish it will overpower the wine. This would be a bad pairing; the pepper is used to only flavor the fish. Both the body and intensity of this dish are similar to that of the wine. This dish is a concordance pairing with the Vermentino wine; the flavors, …show more content…
This risotto includes ingredients such as, onion, garlic, tomato, seafood stock, butter, and white wine. This is the perfect pairing for an acidic and fresh Vermentino because the acidity will balance out the fat and butter in the dish. This is an example of a contrasting dish. In both this dish and Vermentino there is low to medium spiciness from the garlic and onion. Another reason this a great pairing is because of the earthiness and minerality of the dish similar to that of the wine. While the seafood stands for the Mediterranean part of the dish this pairs perfectly with the Sardinian Vermentino. Also another great characteristic of the seafood risotto is the richness and intensity of this dish. When adding the white wine and seafood this dish becomes more intense seamless for an intense and fresh Vermentino. Overall, any seafood or fish is the ideal pairing for an intense, acidic, and fresh Sardinia Vermentino.
One of the most important producers of Vermentino wines is the Argiolas Winery in Sardinia. Started by Antonio Argiolas in the early 1900s, Argiolas is a family run winery that has been passed down from father to son for three generations. The tradition was handed down first from Antonio to his two sons, then finally to Antonio’s grandchildren, who run the winery
The Grapes is a dysfunctional family who is living in the underprivileged rural area. The household consists of mother, Bonnie Grapes, who is a 54 year old jobless widow; Amy Grapes, the 34 year old eldest daughter among children, who is also still unemployed; Gilbert Grapes, the 24 year old eldest son who works at a nearby grocery shop; Arnie Grape, the younger brother of Gilbert Grapes who is autistic; and Ellen Grape, the youngest child, who is 16 years old and works at an ice-cream parlor. The two members of the family are no longer living with it including Larry Grapes who has left the family and is doing the job of a flight attendant, and Albert Grapes, who is the deceased father of the children; he committed suicide 14 years earlier.
In 1849, the Concord grape was first cultivated in Concord, MA by Ephraim Wales Bull. His ultimate goal was to create a grape that could withstand cold climates of the Northeast. Using the “fox” grape that was native to the area, he planted 22,000 seedlings in order to study them and watch them grow. Six years later, he found one of the vines he had originally planted, and named the “Concord Grape” after his hometown, and the town

The family dynamics in the Grape family is close and reflects a general sense of caring. Each character on some level interacted with one another in order to keep the family together. While Gilbert works tirelessly as a caregiver for his brother, he also works to provide for his family. When Ellen is not preoccupied with herself, she also helps take care of her mother. Bonnie, while immobile for much of the movie, runs her family unit from her spot on the couch, and she is included in meals when they bring the table to her in order for them to eat together. Newman & Newman (2012) suggested that the demands of household management stimulate development. As each character is involved in this role in some sense,
In each situation, the sibling is frustrated that Arnie has not been watch properly, but their main focus is on getting Arnie down to safety. Once that occurs then the family goes on with their activities of daily living and it is not a source of tension until the next event. Another example occurs when Gilbert breaks down and hits Arnie right before his birthday party. Gilbert flees the home after this incident occurs, but when he returns home and apologizes to Arnie, he easily forgives him and all is right with the world. They instantly fall into their routine of playing the where’s Arnie game. This shows that Gilbert and Arnie have a good line of communication, and an understanding of one another love for each other. Although, the family lives in a rural environment there are many strengths that stem from being a part of a small community. The Grape family and Arnie in particular are well known in the community of Endora. This familiarity plays a huge role in Bonnie being able to get Arnie
In the span of only a few pages, L.B. Church has given us an overview of the winemaking process. He has done so with sufficient detail for those in the chemistry community to follow along, yet still in a cursory enough manner as to not bog them down with the unnecessary. Written as if it were the procedure of an experiment, he has given enough information for the experiment to be repeated, tested, validated and improved upon. And that is almost assuredly his goal from the very beginning, as it must be for any published author in the chemistry community.

Analyze and compare the Old World Wine Industry to the New World Wine Industry (please note: you must show evidence that you conducted two separate industry structure analyses). Which of the two industry environments is more attractive for incumbents (those competing in that industry)? Why?
Robert G. Mondavi, the son of poor Italian immigrants, began making wine in California in 1943 when his family purchased the Charles Krug winery in Napa Valley where he served as a general manager. In 1966, at the age of 54, after a severe dispute over control of the family-owned winery, Robert Mondavi used his personal savings and loans from friends to start the flagship Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley with his eldest son, Michael Mondavi. Robert's vision was to create wines in California that could successfully compete with the greatest wines of the world. As a result, Robert Mondavi Winery became the first in California to produce and market premium wines that were expected to compete with premium wines from France, Spain, Italy, and Germany.
It’s easy to understand why Mondavi is primarily involved in the domestic market, with a small number of select partnerships and limited involvement with other wineries in different foreign markets. The company has always considered itself a family operation with an emphasis on high-end quality, and looked to work with similarly voiced companies that operated with similar motives. The partnerships are almost all in the ultra-premium and luxury premium segments, such as the highly prestigious Opus One offering, the minority interest in the Italy’s Ornellaia, and the Frescobaldi partnership that produced three more high-end wines in Montalcino, Italy. Amongst all their partnerships, only the Chilean joint venture produced any offering for the growing popular premium segment, with a Caliterra brand that sold 25% of their product in the United States.
Linguine with clams, or linguine alle vongole, is a dish that can be enjoyed on any day throughout the year. However, the linguine with clams that is had on Christmas Eve is much more special. When my mother makes this dish for dinner, she uses clam sauce with small pieces of clams from a can. Although it is delicious, there is nothing like the fresh white sauce my grandfather makes and the whole clams you eat right out of the shells. The linguine with clams we have on Christmas Eve is also more special because of the occasion. For some people, Christmas Eve is just a day to prepare for Christmas Day. However, for Italians Christmas Eve is a holiday in itself and is just as special as Christmas Day. What makes Christmas Eve special for Italians is the meal that is enjoyed on this day. The meal that is made on Christmas Eve is called either The Feast of the Seven Fishes, La Festa dei Sette Pesci in Italian, or the Vigil, La Vigilia. It is traditi...
There are several theories about why adoption of a fruit that has almost come to symbolize Italian cuisine took so long. One argues that it was because tomatoes were believed to be poisonous, another that the earliest tomatoes were inferior and, therefore, eaten only in modest amounts until quality improved enough to make the fruit genuinely popular. In the area of Naples, for example, a key moment appears to have come in the middle of the eighteenth century with the development of a pleasing, large, and sweet tomato. The fruit quickly became the mainstay of Neapolitan pizza
