The Millennial Generation The millennial generation is made up of people that were born from 1978-1999. People from older generations say the millennial generation people are growing up being unprepared for the real world. In an article titled “The Tethered Generation” written by Kathryn Tyler she talks about why the millennial generation is so different than any other generation. She also explains how they depend heavily on their parents well into adulthood. In this article Tyler allows the reader to see why HR professionals are worried about the millennial generation entering their work force. The grounds used by Tyler to support her enthymeme throughout her story show great evidence use. The grounds are sufficient because Tyler gives enough of them to support her claim and to show the purpose of her argument. Her purpose for using these specific grounds is to show her audience why the millennial generation struggles in the work force, and why they are unprepared for the real world. The grounds used by Tyler are typical for example, when she talks about how the millennial generations do not have friends outside of their generation. People can still see this going on today where they only have friends of their age. Another example is when she mentions the helicopter parents and how they are constantly making decisions for their children well into adulthood, and standing up for them instead of letting them figure it out. These examples of typical evidence are used well. The millennial generation can be seen only hanging out with people around their age, or only stay in touch with people around their age. Helicopter parents are still typical because of the technology they have to keep control over their young adult children. Tyler came up with these grounds in 2007, but they are still accurate today in 2016. Technology keeps getting more advanced so the millennial generation will only have peers of their age, and their parents will keep control over their young adult children. These grounds are also relevant because teachers, and bosses at work are witnessing them. Teachers are getting confronted be the students’ parents because they believe they are hard on them (Tyler 479). Bosses at work still have to deal with parents going into an interview with their child or showing up with them for their first day of work (Tyler 480).
