The cost of medium preparation can account for 30-35% of the micro propagated plant production. Therefore, low cost alternatives are necessary to reduce cost of production of tissue-cultured plants. The gelling agents such as agar contribute to 70% of total cost for the media. Howeverother components which are used for the tissue culture have minimum influence on the cost of production. Agar is most commonly used gelling agent for media preparation of solid and semisolid media. It contributes to the matrix potential, the humidity andaffects the availability of water and dissolved substances in the culture containers. Research findings show that sago, semolina, corn flour, laundry starch, rice powder, potato powder can be used as alternative for agar. As the main component of all tissue culture media distilled or double distilled water is used. Electric distillation unit is essential to produce distill water and it is very expensive. So it is needed to find an alternative water source. Previous research finding showed that tap water rain water can be used as the alternative for distilled

The main symbolic image that the flowers provide is that of life; in the first chapter of the novel Offred says “…flowers: these are not to be dismissed. I am alive.” Many of the flowers Offred encounters are in or around the house where she lives; it can be suggested that this array of floral life is a substitute for the lack of human life, birth and social interaction. The entire idea of anything growing can be seen as a substitute for a child growing. The Commander’s house contains many pictures; as they are visual images, “flowers are still allowed.” Later, when Serena is “snipping off the seed pods with a pair of shears… aiming, positioning the blades… The fruiting body,” it seems that all life is being eradicated, even that of the flowers.

Since the days of the early Greeks, florigraphy - the language of flowers - has been used to convey "a wide range of human emotions, conditions, events, or ideas" (Seattle n. p.). From the "strength in character" of the gladiolus to the "delicate beauty" of the hibiscus, flowers are symbolic in the message and the image they produce (Tansy n. p.). Tennyson uses florigraphy to symbolize man’s desire to create the perfect Garden of Eden and to expose the contrary emotions the protagonist feels towards Maud. She is "associated with both lily and rose, as both a chaste subject and a sexual object" (Johnson 111). Traditionally, the lily symbolizes "coquetry and purity" and the rose symbolizes passion (Tansy n p.). Maud is the "shrinking reticence" of the lily when the protagonist is content with their relationship and the "aggressive...

For each water change, culture containers can be sterilized with bleach and water used should be filtered to 2µm and UV sterilized. Antibiotics (chloramphenicol, penicillin, sulphamethazine) could be added to cultures to minimize bacterial build-up between water changes. Addition of antibiotics to culture is not recommended for flow-through growth culture.
The pearl of the Indian Ocean Sri Lanka, reflects a long history of its nations. From the archeological evidence of the prehistoric settlements and prehistoric human Balangoda man (Deraniyagala, 1998) to modern food of kottu like pizza to American; make the broad diversity of culture in Sir Lanka. People have depended on agriculture for years as the primary source of getting food. We have developed all kinds of ways to manipulate nature so what we can produce higher yield crops, more nutritious crops, bigger crops, crops that withstand cold, and farming equipment that allows us to manufacture these crops with relative ease. Why then are there five billion people being malnourished and forty thousand children dying each day from hunger? It seems as though world hunger is more a result of the lack of distributing the food properly than the lack of quantity. agriculture has turned into a high profit business and biotech companies like Monsanto are constantly trying to come up with better and more efficient ways of farming. Are they doing this to try to solve the world hunger crisis, or merely to make a profit?
