As you can quickly tell by looking at RVMS around Valentine's day, love makes people do crazy things. Some people are infatuated with the idea of love, some people are devastated they didn't get a valentine, some are curious who their secret admirer is, and some are desperately longing for someone who doesn't love them back. The presence of all these emotions makes RVMS a frantic place. Shakespeare creates a similar emotional rollercoaster in his most prized comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, where a very hectic scenario is the result of love. While Titania was in love with Bottom from the potion, Oberon asked her for the baby. She was so madly in love with Bottom she hardly cared about what she used to cherish. Oberon reveals that he got the baby when he is talking to Puck and says,“I then did ask of her her changeling child;/Which straight she gave me, and her fairy sent”(4.1.56-57). Titania used to love that baby, but her new love for Bottom was so strong nothing else seemed to matter. He knew that only something as powerful as love could change Titania's mind about the baby. A second example of someone losing emotional protection to love was Helena. When both Demetrius and Lysander are in love with Helena and Helena thinks that it is a trick she says, “To conjure tears up in a por maid’s eyes” (3.2.158). Because she was constantly getting rejected throughout the entire play it seems unreal for all of them to start loving her now. She loses all her self-esteem and believes that it’s all a trick. She then laters says that she thinks they hate her because she is short and ugly. She didn’t even take the chance that she has been waiting for for so long. She just assumed that she wasn't good enough. The characters are blinded by love they are willing to put their hearts at risk.

Your life, pride, and something you once loved, all are inferior to getting your new love. In the play, the chaos of love makes for crazy entertainment. But just like in life, sometimes it leads to “happily ever
