Part Three of the book “Just Like Us” written by Helen Thorpe is comprised of illegal undocumented individuals residing in Denver Colorado. The individuals consist of a group of four Mexican young adults all with the dream of one day attending college and finally obtaining a legal status within the United States. In this portion of the readings, Yadira, Marisela, Clara, and Elissa are entering their senior year at their University and have defined the odds of successfully completing college while maintaining an illegal status. Individuals in the educational field commonly use educational tracking, as it serves as the conduit that assists students in attaining reasonable and logical career opportunities. An example of this emerges as Yadira’s boyfriend of the moment, Juan, explains his rationale supporting his decision of not attending college. This person views the educational experience as a particular stimulus that differs for all depending on their area of interest. Juan discloses to Yadira that technical school is a beneficial opportunity for him simply as he enjoys the mechanical aspects and felt that this particular method of education concentrating on mechanical specialty is a better fit for him than attending a traditional college. While maintaining an illegal immigrant status, these individuals manage to occupy distinguishing positions within their student body government, otherwise referred to as sorority organizations on campus. Clara is elected President, Marisela is elected Vice President, and Elissa is elected Secretary. Now in the nucleus of dealing with societal issues on campus, peer members often make the attempt to socialize with these young ladies in public establishments outside of Denver University. Subsequently what is done is that selected high schools develop a curriculum that is organized around a specific career cluster, which are like a specialized charter school. The goal is to feature a series advanced “pathway” courses that can help students to enrich their knowledge through work-based learning and academics. In turn, this specialized education will allow student to demonstrate their understanding through assessments and industry credentialing opportunities. As well these schools are enrolled in a learning exchange that have partnerships that are organized to support the programs of study by coordinating statewide networks of education partners, businesses, industry associations, labor, and other organizations (2013, p. 21-23). Consequently, the program is driven to help high school students develop a career path and to receive exploratory education that will given them an advantage in either college endeavors or in the job market.
This week’s reflection is on a book titled Girls Like Us and it is authored by Rachel Lloyd. The cover also says “fighting for a world where girls not for sale”. After reading that title I had a feeling this book was going to be about girls being prostituted at a young age and after reading prologue I sadly realized I was right in my prediction.

Even if these students have achieved the highest honors and have the brains of an engineer, they aren’t able to reach their greatest potential because they simply do not have documents. Those who are undocumented are doomed to working backbreaking jobs that pay substantially below minimum wage. When we hear the word “immigration”, we automatically think “illegal”, but what we don’t see is that these illegal immigrants are trying to reach their own American Dreams by coming to America. Academic excellence is the primary desire of every parent and student. However, there are varying perceptions of the role of education in the life of and individual. According to the survey carried out on the perception of the role of education in the life of an individual, it was established that eight out of ten students were of the view that they pursued education for the purpose of economic gains. Additionally, six out of ten students viewed education as serving the purpose of broadening their view and perceptions in life. Accordingly, the widening of the will help them rethink their ideas and values. Career and technical education courses are intended to prepare high school students to enter the work force in a skilled trade. It equips the students with the experience and education necessary to succeed in an average skill level job while maintaining the student’s interest. In an article that focuses on an aviation CTE program, a “senior policy analyst at the Morrison Institute, said that Career and Technical Education provides another opportunity for students who struggle in high school.” The assumption is that students who struggle in high school presumably do not want another four years of education to attain a bachelor’s degree. The United States is a country with fusion of ethnic diversity. Each year, illegal aliens find their ways into the country through the border of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. The increasing figure of illegal aliens has become a problem. American citizens presuppose that illegal aliens are only those who enter the country without permission by crossing the border. These citizens don’t know that illegal alien’s population is similarly composed of people who are granted entry—via visa— and then stay beyond the permissible time. In addition, there are also those who violated the terms of permanent resident card or refugee permit, voluntarily or involuntarily. The bottom-line of this conflict is that, besides brutally disrespected Native Americans, all of the people within the United States who are granted American citizenship are either immigrants or descendants of immigrants. The past and current presence of immigrants causes constant modification of economy and culture in the persistently expanding system of the USA. Illegal aliens bring to this country additional tax revenue, expand the low-cost labor pool, and bring in good values and motivation consistent with the American Dream. They are working at extremely low wages, trying to live a better life than they had in their indigenous land. Illegal aliens are living in the invisible world, full of fictitious promises, with no rights. Because of these conditions, we will make a proposal to end this situation and give these communalized aliens the opportunity that they are worthy of.

...m as an emergency political problem and citizens should become aware of the negatives that have been an inhumane result of racial profiling and anti-immigration laws in recent years. It is also necessary for the nation to become informed and concerned on the positives of immigration reform. The necessary facets to begin with,which can be backed by sociological and statistical data, include the application of a pathway to citizenship for nearly 12 million undocumented immigrants, execute family reunification in various situations, and provide a safe haven for victims of international human trafficking. After all, is it not the nation’s utmost desire to be capable of building and providing The American Dream? If so, building a foundation of these ingredients is absolutely necessary in order to maintain great opportunity beyond any either country.
