Budi Sasono implements this trait with his camera, depicting a number of very beautiful images of nighttime in the city. The humor, however, does not seem to be missing from this aspect either, as exemplified by the shot of an advertisement on the street saying "Cheap Viagra Available".
The acting retains the realistic essence of the film, although the three protagonists act in rather different fashions. Gorgeous Adinia Wirasti plays the disillusioned rich woman, whose horizons have been opened by her stay in New York. The fact that she exemplifies that she is cultured but also a bit spoiled is the highlight of her performance. Ina Panggabean presents her character in a rather vocal and externalized fashion, being the main source of comedy in the film. Marissa Anita as Naomi is the exact opposite, as she is quite laconic in presenting Indri's sadness.
"In the Absence of the Sun", is a very beautifully shot film, which manages to combine entertainment and meaningfulness in a very appealing
The film begins in 1972 in Uganda. It centers around an Indian family that is being forced out of their home by General Idi Amin, the new regime. This happens because Jay (the father of the main character, Mina) gives an interview with BBC in which he badmouths the General. Amin does not take to this too lightly and expedites the removal of all “Asians” from Uganda. Jay and his family, along with others are exiled to London. Eighteen years pass by and the film refocuses on Jay, his family and their lives in Greenwood, Mississippi. Mina is now twenty-four years old and works at a motel to help support her family. Her mother, Kinnu, owns a liquor store and her father, Jay, spends a majority of his time time writing to the Ugandan government about suing them in order to regain his lost property.
For this assignment we were asked to review a movie. I choose to analyze the movie Fried Green Tomatoes from 1991. This movie has many lessons hidden inside, but also has a story of a story. It starts off with a woman named Evelyn Couch going to visit her husband’s bitter aunt, and turns into the daily visits to another member of that house. This woman’s name is Ninny Threadgood, and she always has wonderful stories to tell Evelyn. At first, she seems unsure of this elderly woman’s presence, but opens up quickly. These two ladies have a connection, and Evelynn’s prospective of life soon changes. Ninny tells her stories all along, but in the end it reveals that Ninny was really talking about her life in the past. Evelyn was going through a rough patch in her life, and visiting this woman was all she needed to make some changes. She changed her diet, knocked out a wall in the house, stood up for herself, and changed her
The movie revolves around Pai who lost her mother and twin brother during birth. We learn that her father is a photographer and migrated to Germany to live his passion, leaving her to be raised by her grandparents. We observe that Pai becomes attached to his grandfather Koro and loves him more than anything in this world and wants to become the next chief of the tribe to make him proud, although Koro loves her, he aggressively opposes this idea. He questions her achievement and doubts her abilities all on the basis that she is only a girl. Pai, like his
Development: The narrative follows part of these students' lives during a year at college, they are in each other's lives whether they know it or not. There are parallels drawn between them as the narrative progresses: Peace V War, Aggression V Pacifism, sides are taken and the racial lines are clear- stick to your own group like glue. How they fit in with the rest of the college population, Malik does this better than Remy and Kristen- he heads straight for the black population.
The story centres around Josephine Alibrandi - an agressive, disatisfied, and confused final year student of Italian extraction. She has one burning ambition: to find her place in affluent society and to break free from her embarassing, stifling italian family.
Individuals develop their personal values and beliefs from a variety of sources. Major areas one gets ideas and values from is their parent, their society, and their culture. One way all three of these sources combine to instil certain values and beliefs in people is through oral storytelling. Listening to stories- oral or not- is a way people develop different thoughts, attitudes and beliefs; therefore, what theme or moral lessons a story has in very impactful on one's life. In “The Sun Still Rises in the Same Sky: Native American LIterature” by Joseph Bruchac this concept is explained in Native American literature. “We can make some important generalization about American Indian oral traditions. First of all, Native American cultures use stories to teach moral lessons and convey
She stands beneath the streetlight and waits for the theatre to open its doors. She looks toward the ground, knowing her unworthy position in her culture, and waits for a person to understand her circumstances, to see her not as the prostitute but as the woman who needs money, love, passion, or excitement to replace the emptiness that led her to first begin her walk on these streets.
Baz Luhrmann has done this film in a unique and brilliant way, with help of the above, and of course a great loved story as a base.
This film is divided into two separate parts. First, is a story that shows a situation in Italy during the Nazi occupation of World War II. There are a couple of members of a secret underground movement that try to keep the Nazis away from them. This movement is made up of poor Italians, who are troubled by the war and other Nazi ideologies. One of the members of the revolutionist group is engaged to a mother of the young boy, and the wedding is about to take place in a matter of days. But all sorts of problems follow, and all of this is based on how the Nazis will finally catch up with these traitors. The second, more effective and emotional part of the film is a tragic melodrama.
John Woo is one of the most celebrated Asian filmmakers in the West, with his even directing films in Hollywood. This title is his most renowned.
The overall plot of this movie leaves an impact on the audience promoting thought provoking question of the hidden meaning, is the way our society works all just for show?, Does desire control people's actions?, all questions one may think after watching the plot unfold. The films ability to encourage thought provoking question is what makes this film a must see and allow many people to consider it better than the stage version. This very aspect is what completed my check list for worthiness of a best picture nomination, it left me thinking and continued to make me talk about it with my
I cannot describe how amazed and how exciting this was for me. I already booked a second visit for the next play next week. Daylight was also incredible because the actors were extremely good. I think the mood and energy of the play, played an enormous role on the feelings of the viewers. They had some scenes of sadness, but also scenes of comedy that fit perfectly in the play. The african american women, Aaron’s wife, was viewed differently. She was seen as a slave and thought that it was illegal for Aaron to be with her. They let her in the house simply because Aaron demanded. She explained everything her and Aaron went through and told so many stories about how much he loved Aaron. She took care of Aaron when he was wounded. She was a powerful actor because at the end of everything, every single family member respected her and accepted her into the
Even though there is a lot of meaningless running around, audiences witness a well-performed rite of passage for a boy who must conquer his fears and feelings of insecurities. Shyamalan has received great praises along with insulting comments for his work throughout the years, After Earth stands somewhere in between.
Modern cinema has continued to push the boundaries of film form as filmmakers constantly search for new ways to captivate and stupefy audiences, while adhering to conventional ways of storytelling. However, once in a while a film comes around that not only has unconventional elements but also executes them properly, so properly that these films achieve the one thing they aspire for: artistic greatness. Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), hitherto referred to as Birdman, is such a film as director Alejandro Iñárritu weaves together a unique story by employing impressive cinematographic techniques, soundtrack, and casting.
First of all, the movie has an unusual opening. When the movie begins, there are just many people on the screen; and I cannot find any clue to the plot or the setting. However, I think this opening shows Bonnycastle¡¯s idea of postmodernism which is ¡°it is hard to know what you might encounter next or what kind of transaction might be expected of you¡± (Bonnycastle 232); in other words, I think the opening wants to show us there are various people on the earth, and their fate and destiny are different. After this unusual opening, the main characters Manni and Lola appear on the screen; however, after they finish their phone call, I understand what has happened. In addition, Lola has a mere 20 minutes to get a large amount of money to her boyfriend so that he will not be killed by his boss. In fact, it seems impossible to do such a thing in 20 minutes; however, I think this is what the audiences will find the most attractive. In addition, I guess the director wants each member of the audiences to imagine the next 20 minutes in their own mind before they see the result of the movie. However, I am sure that each person¡¯s ending will be different as this is a reflection of the uncertainty of the postmodernist view of life. Consequently, the first part of the movie only interests me in what will be going on in the next 20 minutes.
