In Dr. Seuss’ “Horton Hears a Who!” Horton the elephant exclaims, “A person is a person no matter how small.” Horton’s statement is especially valid in the context of abortion. I would agree with Horton that a person is indeed a person, no matter their size. A person is a person no matter their size, age, mental capacity, race, nationality, gender, etc. And all persons are made in the image of God:

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them
12:6-7; Mt. 6:26, 22:39; 1 Jn. 4:11). Yet, abortion is pretty popular in America. In fact, according to the CDC, in New York City (as of 2008) there were 732 abortions per 1,000 live births. In the same year nationwide, there were 825,564 abortions reported, and a recorded 3,451,951 live births (Pazol). That is a ratio of about 2 abortions for every 5 live births. With statistics like these, it can be hard for some to understand what the “big deal” is. Some see that an action is approved and sanctioned by a government, popular, and touted as a moral option; and they end up not thinking much about the moral standing of such an action. Between the truth of God’s word, the truth of observation, and the truth of an objective moral standard, abortion is indeed a “big deal.” We will look at what the supporters of abortion usually have to say to the (in their words) “close-minded” and “misogynistic” opponents of the surgical
Thus it is often expressed in modern culture that to be anti-abortion is to be anti-woman. However, half of the fetus’ which are aborted are female; so it seems that abortion is not exactly pro-woman. This defense then only applies to grown women who are seeking abortions, not females in the womb who would later grow to be women if they were not aborted (Anderson 12). Likewise, our legal system does not recognize an absolute right to do whatever you want with your own body (nor has it ever). Individuals are not allowed to drive while intoxicated (or even without a license), walk around naked, urinate in public, do dangerous drugs, etc. (Anderson 13). And lastly, when a woman is pregnant, her body is no longer just “her own body”, in fact, a fetus in the womb controls their mother’s body in several ways through various hormonal cues (Anderson 13). Also, if the human body didn’t create a placental barrier for a developing embryo, said embryo would be rejected as foreign tissue (Anderson
