Abortion is one of the most highly debated issues in our country today, and this debate between those who support abortion and those against it has been going on since the 1973 court case, Roe v. Wade. To have an abortion or not to is solely the woman’s choice and her right. Keeping abortion legal is a wiser decision than outlawing it for multiple reasons.
All women deserve the right to choose what to do with their bodies. If abortion is to be made illegal, that decision will be stripping women of rights to do what they want with their own bodies. Until recently, women have had the right to do as they pleased with their own bodies, but in today’s society, these rights are being threatened. In her article “Abortion: Every Woman’s Right”, Sharon Smith, a well-renowned writer, advocates: “For more than a decade, the right to abortion has been steadily eroded, so that now the debate is over who should be able to pre-empt a woman's choice to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, laws now exist which allow parents, husbands or state governments to prevent pregnant women from having abortions.” In short, she states that over time, the issue of abortion has slowly been worn down to the state it is currently in, where government men and husbands are the ones who are making the executive decision of whether or not a woman should be allowed to have an abortion. Anti-abortion supporters may want to question if the woman who is carrying the fetus really has the right to terminate its life. They propose the argument by insisting that since the fetus will develop into a different body than the mother, having an abortion would not be a woman’s right, but instead would be the fetus’ right. However, there are many who disagree with these result by saying that the women who developed serious mental issues after the abortion were very likely to have had the mental illness or tendency before their abortion.
Abortion is, and will most likely always be, one of the most controversial issues of our time. Until every woman is on contraceptives, there are no more rapes, or there are no more incidents of incest, there will always be unwanted pregnancies that exist. Both views have good points, and they are taking into account either fighting for the mothers rights, or giving an unborn child a voice when they otherwise can’t speak for themselves.

    I believe, that if you don’t think you are capable of giving your child a decent life, that they will be able to be successful in, you should consider your all options, maybe being a parent isn’t right for you. Every child deserves happiness and I hate seeing people treat their children poorly, abusing them, and neglecting them.
