To Kill A Mockingbird Essay Atticus Finch has many assertions that make him a good character but there is only a few that make him the best which are he is a good citizen, he is kind, and he is a wonderful father. First of all, Atticus is a good citizen because he stood up for Tom Robinson when tom was being accused of rape. He treated everyone even his children with respect he was gentle never aggressive he was calm he never had an angry issue. In the book page 284 it says that jem with his face angry with tears he walked down on the sidewalk where Atticus was sitting jem said “it ain’t right” he muttered “it ain’t right” then atticus says “No son it ain’t right” then
How are the characters of Atticus and Jack alike and how are they different? Choose at least two traits to compare them.
“Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle,” says the great Martin Luther King Jr. In the book To Kill a MockingBird by Harper Lee we see similar struggle that Dr. King battled. Atticus Finch is the only one in the small town of Maycomb willing to admit an african american might not actually be to blame. It was Atticus and Tom Roberson against Maycomb. Throughout Atticus’ interaction with the people of Maycomb he shows people the truth about equality and helped with racism. In the end we learn that it takes courage and a hard shell to beat racism, and breaking down a barrier of society can put a lot of struggle and challenge on one person.
The novel “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, is an American classic, narrated by the young Scout Finch, the most engrossing character in the book. The novel is about the adventures of two siblings over the time of about three years. Jem and Jean Louise (Scout) Finch were two young siblings who one day met another young boy named Dill. Over time, Jem and Scout grow up under the careful watch of their father and friends, learning how to be adults. They play games, they sneak into a courthouse, and they learn a valuable life lesson. Scout was an intriguing character. As the narrator, you learn more about Scout’s feelings towards the events in the book and soon learn to love her. Let me introduce you to Scout Finch.
I think that every time Atticus brings forward his heroic characteristics he contradicts them with his negatives: he is an intelligent man yet terribly lonesome; he does everything he could to win the case but somehow he still loses; he cares about his children tremendously however he is not there for them in their time of need. After all was it not Boo Radley who rescued the children, not Atticus? Finch is a honorable man with a lot on his shoulders who tries his best. But sometimes that is just not good enough. If Boo Radley was able to come out of his house to save a couple of innocent children, then Atticus was more than capable of doing so as
When talking to his daughter, Scout, Atticus Finch says: “ ‘The only thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience’ ” (Lee 140). This quote signifies Atticus’s strong belief in morality and righteousness that is so apparent in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus Finch is an inspirational role model that exhibits the qualities of courage, respect, and selflessness. He charms the reader with his stunning wit and great emotional depth of character. Atticus is not discriminatory toward any race and shows mercy to all those in Maycomb who are treated unfairly, even at the expense of his own personal reputation. Atticus’s intuition and empathy is extremely important in this
Atticus Finch of To Kill a Mockingbird possesses all of those qualities. It’s important for a character to have flaws so that the reader can connect with him and so that the character seems realistic. A great character also has restraint and knows not to boast. Humility is important in building a lovable character. Lastly, a great character is one who changes the lives of everyone who hears his wise words. Sophocles, author of Antigone, once wrote that “all men make mistakes, but a good man yields when he knows his course is wrong, and repairs the evil. The only crime is
Consequently, Atticus Finch acts justly, loves tenderly and walks humbly through his job and his family. Ultimately, he acts justly through his acts of kindness and understanding. Also, he loves tenderly by showing the ones that he cares about their worth. Lastly, he walks humbly by not caring about other people’s opinions but himself. Atticus Finch is a man with full respect and love given to. He is a role model for his family and to all of his town people.
Atticus shows great compassion and tolerance when he stands up for the Negroes. He stands up and represents Tom Robinson because he believes that everyone should be treated equally in the court of law. He knows that because Tom was a Negro there would be a slim chance of winning. That fact never discouraged him though because he says that the main reason he is representing Tom is because, ' if I didn't I couldn't hold up my head in town, I couldn't represent this county in the legislature'; (75). He recited a speech, which clearly states that Tom Robinson is not guilty. In that speech he says, 'our courts have their faults, as does any human institution, but in this courts are the great levelers, and in our courts all men are created equal'; (205). He believed that prejudice and stereotyping is wrong and he tries to teach these morals to Scout and Jem.
Atticus Finch was a true hero, in my eyes. He had all the essentials to being a hero, such as; respect, equality, and quiet dignity. Sure, Mr. Finch didn’t quite reach his goal of winning the Tom Robinson case, but it was the fact that he attempted it, knowing he would lose. A hero is not someone who achieves something, but is a person that attempts to. The journey to your goal might even be more important than the actual achievement, because on your way to the top, struggles appear and you overcome them by learning new lessons to live by in life. In conclusion, Atticus Finch truly is America’s greatest hero.
Atticus is a good father. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus tries to be a good father as much as possible to Scout and Jem. Atticus finch is as good of a father as he is a lawyer. He is a loving and caring father and teaches Scout and Jem the difference between right and wrong as well as equality for all.
What Atticus did for Tom was a reason to be called a good person, not a hero. He protected Tom, even though it was not part of his job. Being a good person is different than being a hero. A hero requires someone to somehow help the community, while being a good person is just someone who helps out another person. Atticus fits more in the good person category.
In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, there were many unique attributes each character held. But the main trait Atticus, Miss Maudie, and Jean held was an unshakable hope in humanity. After his trial ended on a low note, Atticus continued keeping his cool and never thought of losing hope in humanity, as Jeremy did. Miss Maudie commented on Jeremy’s despaired comments about Macomb people with, ‘”We’re so rarely called on to be Christians, but when we are, we’ve got men like Atticus to go for us.”’ (Page 288, Chapter 22). This meant that there were men who supported the minorities. This did not mean, however, that there were no characters against equality and while Jean was exposed to that evil in a person’s heart through her
Atticus Finch: Is He Really a Good Parent? Parents create a huge impact in their children’s lives, and parenting is not an easy task. A few mistakes can affect a child’s path to adulthood. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee takes place in the 1930’s. It is told from the point of view of young Scout Finch who tells about her childhood and her father, Atticus.
“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see through it no matter what” (Lee 149). A quote from Atticus Finch in the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Atticus Finch is the father of the narrator, Jean Louise “Scout” Finch, and Jeremy Atticus “Jem” Finch. He teaches his children throughout the book to treat everyone with respect despite the color of skin and what their life might be like. He believes that you can’t judge anyone until you’ve loved their life in their skin. Atticus is a hero, one who usually goes against the norm, because he doesn’t conform and fights for what’s morally
During the story, To Kill A Mockingbird, there are many different instances that can largely differ from one another. However, it was once dubbed "a love story" by the author of the book, Harper Lee.
