Most frogs are known for their long tongues, protruding eyes, and absence of its tail. Frogs are also known for their unbelievable jump, but what people don’t really consider is that many frogs contain toxins. These toxins are used in defense against their predators and gives makes them unappetizing to them. Poisonous frogs usually display their toxicity with their beautiful bright colors, strategically known as aposematism. There are many different types of frogs containing toxins. An example of this is the “Golden Poison Frog.” These frogs are native to the Pacific Ocean. The Golden Poison Frog’s skin is coated with alkaloid poison, common to many dart frogs. This prevents nerves from being able to transmit impulses which can lead to heart failure or fibrillation. Don't mistake this frog for being venomous because venomous use their toxins to kill their prey. It is only poisonous and uses it’s toxins as a self defense. Amina Gautier has been awarded with Best African American Fiction and New Stories from the South; in addition, she has successfully created At Risk. Gautier’s story is based on the African American community and the different types of struggle families can realistically face. However, if a white person would have written this exact story it could have been misinterpreted and considered racist. Stereotypes such as fathers not being present, delinquencies and educational status are presented in the various short stories.
What is the most important element of a good story? Although interesting characters, engaging plot development and didactic story lines certainly embellish the story, one could argue that the setting is the most crucial. Not only does the setting provide a baseline of necessary background information, it can also be used to enhance the story, just like the other elements listed. Edgar Allan Poe certainly takes advantage of this in “Hop Frog”, “The Cask of Amontillado”, and the “Masque of the Red Death”. In each of these stories, gruesome horrors occur, and because of the ingenious way Poe uses and manipulates the setting to his advantage, these stories’ horrors are amplified. ImageText BoxImageOne of the biggest threats to the environment of Ontario is the Gypsy Moth (Lymantria dispar dispar). The species itself is native to Europe and Asia. How this affects us is by weakening trees across Ontario and North America. The first time the gypsy moth was found in Ontario was 1969. The gypsy moth can be found in southern Canada (Ontario), New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and British Columbia. It is known to weaken trees and the caterpillar form live in trees and during most outbreaks its caterpillar feces would fall from the trees to the ground or even on top of humans. The average Gypsy Caterpillar can grow 5-6 centimeters long. With five pairs of blue spots and six pairs of bright red dots on their back. The female moth are white and can fly on the other hand, the male moth are brown and can also fly. The female have a 5cm wing span but male have a 2.5cm wing span. The gypsy moth usually lives in open forests and other forests and take up at least 20% of the space. The Gypsy moth are about 4cm long, tan coloured and can be located on tree trunks, furniture, and buildings. (OFAH Invading Species Awareness Program, 2012)
Cane toads originated from South America, were introduced to Australia in the early 20th century and have been in Australia for nearly 70 years. Cane toads were relocated by the Europeans to control destructive beetles that destroyed sugarcane in Cairns approximately 2900 young toads were released in Australia, after a while the group of Europeans discovered cane toads were unsuccessful at removing the cane bugs. Cane toads spread throughout Queensland, Cane toads have spread south and west and now cane toads can be found in Queensland, Northern Territory, New South Wales. Cane toads became were well known as an invasive species or pest. Cane toads eat bugs, ants, generally anything that could fit inside its mouth, most cane toads grow to 10-15cm long and females have been grown to 23cm colour ranges from grey to olive brown. ohn Steinbeck's “Cannery Row” offers many interpretations, especially when viewed through the lens of the Holy Bible. From the Christ like figure of Doc to his apostles, Mack and the boys, Cannery Row is ripe with religious tropes. However, Doc is also considered to be quick to anger at times, and carries with him many themes found throughout the Old Testament texts and some legends that are even more aged. However, if we consider Doc to be the messianic figure he is then it wasn't the party that Doc had a problem with, nor that it was held without his knowing on his property. The issue arises with the process by which Mack and the boys use to fund the party. The green frogs harvested ultimately causes Mack and the boys to succumb to greed in an effort to praise Doc. The collection of frogs used as a currency is what sends Doc into a rage.

The manner in which Poe addresses the topic of class differences and the struggle for power with his fictional characters resounds of his own struggles in his personal life. However, unlike in Hop Frog and the Masque of the Red Death, he was never himself able to emerge wholly victorious over his adversaries, including the publishing industry. In addition, Poe’s characters appear to hint that while wealth may be the source of power for many, the correct use of information itself is the surest path to the acquisition of power.

Botulism toxin, known for the most toxic substance in the biological world, has been used throughout history as a biological weapon. The bacteria Clostridium botulinum causes botulism causes botulism disease, which is a serious paralytic illness that strikes all age groups. The clinical forms of botulism include foodborne botulism, infant botulism, and wound botulism. Botulism, if left untreated, is fatal; however, even treatment with antiserum can not provide full recovery.

The Bubonic Plague, otherwise known as the Black Death was a raging disease. Most people thought of it as the physical Grim Reaper of their town or community. The disease lasted about six years, 1347 to 1352. The Bubonic Plague was a travesty that has traveled throughout Europe and has raged and decimated both large and small towns, putting Europe through a lot.
In Hamlet, a play written by William Shakespeare, poison is often used as a metaphor. Poison is seen throughout the play in many different ways. Characters throughout may not even be physically affected by poison, but in some way or another it's almost as they have been poisoned in the mind. The best way to describe it is, it's like a chain reaction all the way through the play. Beginning with Claudius, who not only murders Hamlet's father but at the same time he basically murders Hamlet as just more in a mental state. Then from there it's like the poison seeps through and moves on to affect Polonius and Gertrude. Polonius again is just another victim of the poison in the mind, but Gertrude is affected physically when she drank the poison all because she thought she should, since she is royalty. Finally, Ophelia is the final poisoned victim. This one poison really seems to do a lot of damage all the way through the play, and it shows because once the King was murdered, everyone begins to die from there. The poison, metaphoric or not, both ways it is a brutal killer in the play.
