An Analysis of The Story of Rahab
The main point of the story of Rahab is that God rewards people, regardless of their station or past sins, who put their faith in Him.
The story of Rahab begins when Joshua, after receiving God’s command to enter into the Promised Land, sends two spies into Jericho and the surrounding areas to “view the land” (Joshua 2:1). The two spies are discovered in Jericho as they enter Rahab’s harlot house. The king of Jericho, being alerted to their presence, sends for the spies. Rahab hides the two spies on her roof under some flax and sends the guards out of the city on a wild goose chase. Rahab then tells the spies that everyone in the land is afraid of their power and that she knows that their God is the One true God. In return for the kindness she showed them Rahab asks for their promise of safety for her family when the Hebrews attack Jericho. The spies promise and escape through Rahab’s window in the city wall and descend down a scarlet rope that is used to signal the Israelites to the location of her home.

According to Dictionary.com, Asherah is an “ancient Semitic goddess, sometimes identified with Ashtoreth and Astarte, worshiped by the Phoenicians and Canaanites.” Merriam-Webster dictionary refers to Asherah as a “sacred wooden post, pole, or pillar that stood near the altar in various Canaanite high places that symbolizes the goddess Asherah”. She was a Canaanite fertility goddess. So, who exactly is this goddess Asherah? Asherah seems to have been the most major goddess in the time of Ancient Israel. She was the “mother of gods and humans…. She is also the mistress of the sea and land, and protector of all living things (Scham).” According to the Holy Bible, Asherah (sometimes referred to as Ashtoreth), was the name
...ear of a punishment in the afterlife, but rather an understanding that sense God controls everything, you are at his whim and if he decides to destroy your life, than it shall be so. However, it illustrates another aspect of the relationship with God as well. God may not always be kind and loving towards his creation, but he will not take away humans choice on how to react to the situation. The true meaning of the covenant is thus illustrated through Job and Satan thereof illustrates the lack of one.
In recent years, the Homo Neanderthalensis were viewed as “subhuman brutes”, but are now seen as a different species from our own (Balter 2001). The Neanderthals were a branch of the Homo genus that evolved in Eurasia at least 200,000 years ago (Fagan 2010). The first Neand...
While Baba was unable to seek more than personal redemption, Amir found atonement with himself, Hassan, and God. Amir also found the courage his father lacked to make the necessary sacrifices to achieve redemption. Amir’s ability to transform into a strong character is a result of what he learned from his father’s strengths and weaknesses. While Baba was unable to achieve true redemption, he was a true role model that provided his son, Amir, with the necessary skills to achieve atonement for both of them. Works Cited Hosseini, Khaled.
I woke up this morning under the impression I would go to work and have a normal boring day at work. I grabbed my history journal and novelty star wars pen and forced myself to walk out of the door and leave my house, then as soon as I left my apartment the hall began to spin. I was then transported to a strange, barren, desert like field. I could tell I wasn’t in 2016 anymore. The terrain was noticeable it was in Iraq, where there was an ongoing battle between what looked like the Ottoman Empire and Safavid Brotherhood (Shahbaz). I soon realized this was my chance to witness history first hand and began this diary.
As the earliest extinct human relatives to become known to science, the Homo neanderthalensis have snatched a relatively iconic influence in human evolutionary investigations. A significance that has been enormously reinforced by the substantial behavioral and fossil record that has expanded since the original Feldhofer Cave skullcap and partial skeleton were unexpectedly uncovered in 1856, by miners working in Germany’s Neander Valley (Tattersall & Jeffrey 1999: 7117-7119). ‘The Neanderthals’ is the informal classification of a particular group of large-brained hominids whom inhabited Europe and Western Asia between 130,000 to around 35,000 years ago. Complementary human populations lived at the same time in Africa and Asia. The Neanderthals were a highly successful race for a substantial period of time, but this situation chang...
When Sohrab was in the emergency room, Amir was not permitted to go in with him. For the first time in more than fifteen years, he prayed and recited the only words he could think of: “There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His messenger” (306) until he fell asleep with fatigue. He believed that he was responsible for the suicide and this was God’s punishment for all of his sins. Amir was caught between the liberalists and the fundamentalists again. He dreamt of Sohrab, using the same razor that he had used to shave earlier, to commit suicide. Sohrab was luckily still alive but he had an extreme blood shortage. To repay God for his mercy, Amir returned to being a devout Muslim for the rest of the narrative. He was grateful for receiving an extended time to regain Sohrab’s trust and attempt to
Following the creation story of the book of Genesis is the book of Exodus. In Genesis, God promised Abraham a “great nation from which all nations of the earth will be blessed (Gen 12:1-3)” and in Exodus God completes this promise through the creation of the holy nation, Israel. Exodus tells the story of the God who rescued his people out of Egypt because of the promise he had made to Abraham. God calls to Moses to complete his promise. God’s call to Moses is not only important because he liberates the Israelites but also because God reveals His name(s) along with His true Nature. God calls upon Moses and tells him that He’s back to help the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and that Moses is to lead them. God then gives him full instructions on what to tell the Pharaoh and, more importantly, the Israelites, who are promised, land “flowing with milk and honey”.
The Islamic Golden Age began in the 7th century to the end of the 13th century. The Islamic Golden age is the era in which the Muslims created one of the largest empires. The Golden Ages started with the Prophet Muhammad. There were two Islamic Golden Ages. The first Golden Age lasting about two centuries from the 7th century to the 9th century. In the first Golden Age, society is being integrated in political, social, and moral dimensions in Islam (Lapidus 14). The second Golden Age lasted about five centuries from the 9th century to the 14th century. During the second Golden Age the state and religious institutions were separate, leaving the political and religious elites divided (Lapidus 13). Muhammad, not an immense influence starting out,
The legalization of marijuana has the potential to bring our economy back to life if it were to be legalized. There are a number of ways in which legalization could improve the economy. We could use the revenue from taxes on marijuana to provide for a better quality of life for Americans in need. Legalizing marijuana would also save us money by cutting the cost of putting someone in jail for harmless marijuana related charges that waste tax money. Also it would put more money into circulation by keeping the profits off the black market and into the legal and taxed market. With an estimated twenty-five million active marijuana smokers in America that consume nearly thirty-one million pounds of marijuana each year, we are missing out on extreme revenue that this country cannot afford to go without for much longer (Krulick).

With the abundance of issues that currently surround the citizens of this country, decisions must be made when it comes to prioritizing these challenges in order to most effectively solve them. Different groups of people have varying views in terms of what is most important to work on. Due to this disagreement, there is a standstill and some issues are left to grow while they are overshadowed. While the United States government focuses their attention mainly on the economy and foreign affairs, the issue of protecting children from abuse and neglect is an ongoing struggle that needs to be more acknowledged.
In the first stage of the hero epic, the reader enters the Ordinary World. The hero lives in a “sad city, the saddest of cities, a city so ruinously sad that it had forgotten its name” (15). And in that sad city, beyond the “ruined buildings (which are looking) like broken hearts” there lives the protagonist Haroun Khalifa (15). He is a happy young child that “grew up in a home in which, instead of misery and frowns he had his fathers ready smile and his mother's sweet voice raised in song” (15). Haroun stands out against a background where he lives in a “small concrete house with pink walls, lime-green windows, and blue painted balconies with squiggly metal railings, all of which made it look more like a cake (18).
