How did I choose this topic? I have always been fascinated by the American Revolution and originally I wanted to do the American Revolution as my topic. However while I was doing the research I learned many things about the French and Indian war and how it led to the American revolution which then grasped my attention. And I decide to choose a small topic which had a great impact in American history. How did I start my research? Before starting the actual research I read the rule book a couple of times to know the rules before starting. My research started by surfing databases such as History.Gov, Library of Congress and others .I went to my school library and looked for books relating to the “The French and Indian War”. During the French and Indian War (1754-1763), the French used Indian raids to attack British settlements all along the east coast. These efforts were successful in checking British colonial expansion. In response, Britain occupied forts in upstate New York with hopes that their conventional forces would inhibit Indian raids. These forts failed because they only controlled the area within musket range of their walls. The British turned to Robert Rogers and his rangers. The colonial rangers were inured to the deprivations of wilderness fighting. They had a personal stake in the war in their backyard. Comfortable in the woods, the rangers fought to win.

“Is there a single trait of resemblance between those few towns and a great and growing people spread over a vast quarter of the globe, separated by a mighty ocean?” This question posed by Edmund Burke was in the hearts of nearly every colonist before the colonies gained their independence from Britain. The colonists’ heritage was largely British, as was their outlook on a great array of subjects; however, the position and prejudices they held concerning their independence were comprised entirely from American ingenuity. This identity crisis of these “British Americans” played an enormous role in the colonists’ battle for independence, and paved the road to revolution.

The French and Indian War was very momentous because it greatly expanded the English’s territorial claims it had owned, meaning more control over the colonies than it had before. It diminished the English’s wealth it had accumulated due to the heavy taxation on American colonies, creating a debt the English owed to pay for the war. All of this would lead to factors that would influence the colonists to rebel against the English Crown and later on fully declare independence.
These events introduced the Revolutionary War. The French and Indian War was very essential to the American Revolution because the war debt was the reason that Parliament started imposing taxes on the colonists in the first place. Also, the French and Indian War weakened Britain, making the colonists’ actions work more effectively. Since France, reasonably, was not happy with the outcome of the French and Indian War, it was also one of the reasons for France’s interest in helping the colonists throughout the Revolutionary War, which was a key element to the colonies’ victory. Beginning in the 1860s and lasting until the late 1780s, government policy towards Native Americans was aggressive and expressed zero tolerance for their presence in the West. In the last 1850s, tribal leaders and Americans were briefly able to compromise on living situations and land arrangements. Noncompliance by Americans, however, resumed conflict. The beginning of what would be called the "Indian Wars" started in Minnesota in 1862. Sioux, angered by the loss of much of their land, killed 5 white Americans. What resulted was over 1,000 deaths, of white and Native Americans. From that point on, American policy was to force Indians off of their land. American troops would force Indian tribe leaders to accept treaties taking their land from them. Protests or resistance by the Indians would result in fighting. On occasion, military troops would even lash out against peaceful Indians. Their aggression became out of control.
French and Indian War Although most Indians sided with the French going against the English and American colonist in the French and Indian war it was mainly due to the English being unbeneficial to the Indians. Other reasons the Indians sided with the French were because the Indians wanted to live in the French’s land. This was due to taxing in the England and because they were better off with the French in comparison to the English.
