This dream, carried on and described for generations, is a special one of prosperity, wealth, and peaceful coexistence with fellow man. However, even that’s only a part of the problem; other issues, either as bad or intertwined with racism, also persist. In ways that are, in certain areas, similar to that of blacks or non-white people, women also face the same type of job problems and wages shorting that non-whites also are victim of. Linda Burnham, in her writing of Gender and the Black Jobs Crisis, cites data that shows, in 2013, women accounted for 46.9% of total employed people in low-wage jobs across America. When compared to the 11.4% of total employed that the black community contributes to the total amount of in low-wage jobs, that’s quite a staggering amount (SOURCE). Another level of complexity that’s thrown into the mix are women belonging to minority groups: black women earned 70% of white men’s income in 2015 while Hispanic women earned only 54% of what white men were payed in 2016 (SOURCE1 & SOURCE2). Since relevant data has shown that the decrease in wage gaps has been closing so slowly since 2001, according an article from the American Association of University Women, that the gap is projected to close completely 2119 (almost 101 years from now!)
