Alonza Thomas jr grew up in Bakersfield California. Alonza played football growing and was always looking out for his younger brother. Alonzo's mother was working two jobs and was also working on getting her education which was taking her out of home and away from her boys for long periods of time. Alonza Thomas jr ran away from home at the age of fifteen and the stayed with a man at the man's home. The man fed and gave Alonza shelter for free. One day Alonza told the man he was going home the man was angry and came back with a gun and said you have to do something for me first as payment for food and shelter. The man told Alonza to rob a convenience store the man told Aloza if he robs the store successfully he will give Alonza a cut of the money (Stickup Kid). …show more content…

While holding up the clerk the gun goes off not hitting anyone during the composition another clerk tackles Alonza to the ground. A third clerk calls the police while the other two clerks restrain Alonza while the wait for the police (Stickup Kid). Alonza was the first minor to be charged under the new proposition twenty one. Alonza was charged with three counts of second degree armed robbery for each store clerk. Each count of second degree armed robbery carried a possible thirteen years in prison. Since Alonza had no other crimes on record the district attorney offered him a plea of one count of second degree armed robbery which Alonza accepted (Stickup Kid). While Alonza was in prison he was treated for anxiety and depression. Alonza spent most of his time in mental health treatment facilities or in solitary confinement. Aloza attempted suicide multiple times. Alonzo served his entire thirteen year sentence because he was a suicide risk so couldn't be released on parole (Stickup Kid). Alonza spent twenty three hours a day in lockdown for help and personal protection most days
