The next major benefit of having a chiropractor available to students is that it may serve as a good recruiting mechanism. Student athletes and those prone to injury will be attracted to having a chiropractor provided by the school. Not everybody regularly visits the chiropractor, but I believe that having one at Alma College will help to draw in potential students.
The last major benefit of Alma College providing chiropractic care deals with the campus as a whole. The Wilcox Medical Center and Counseling and Wellness Center do a fantastic job of maintaining students’ physical and mental health. The fact that Alma College provides these services to all students is evidence that student life and health is important to the college. Adding a

chiropractor on top of the two previously established health services would help both the students’ physical and mental health. Basically, this is taking one of Alma College’s priorities and propelling it forward. Beyond the obvious reasons of why eliminating stress and injuries is positive, doing so would contribute to the overall morale on campus. If all students and faculty have access to care that alleviates pain and stress, then the campus will be a happier and more pleasant place overall. According to Bluestone Chiropractic, “employee morale also climbs in a working environment in which management clearly demonstrates that employee health and well-being is a priority. Additionally, chiropractic care is nearly always less costly than traditional medical treatments, many of which are avoidable through spinal manipulation.” Even though Alma College isn’t a traditional work environment, it acutely resembles one. Student morale grows when pain is alleviated and when students know that faculty cares about them. For all of these reasons, hiring a chiropractor at Alma College would create a more pleasant place with higher morale. As I looked more into the details of making this proposal happen, I ran into different issues and concerns that would need to be sorted out in order to proceed with the plan. In order to find answers to my questions and possible modifications to the proposal, I spoke with Anne Lambrecht at the Counseling Center and Brett Knight in the Athletic Training Office. In speaking with Anne Lambrecht, a few areas of concern were brought up and discussed. I first wanted to discover if there would be space in the Medical Center for a chiropractor to operate. Although there aren’t any open physician rooms, there are currently two examination rooms. If a chiropractor were to be hired to work at Alma College, it is possible that of these could be converted to occupy occasional or full-time chiropractic services. The second topic discussed had to do with student insurance and whether or not the insurance provided by the school covered chiropractic care. Upon looking into the insurance, we discovered that chiropractic care is covered for rehabilitation purposes only, not normal visits. Initially, this detail was concerning. However, Mrs. Lambrecht informed me that there are strikingly few (roughly 90) students on the provided plan and that most use their own health insurance plans. This opened up a lot more possibility of students having access to the chiropractor should it be introduced at the Medical Center. Students with health insurance plans that covered chiropractic care would be able to access such services. The third question I asked was about the system that would require implementation to accommodate a chiropractor’s required scheduling and medical records. Basically, I was curious if a chiropractor could use the same system and work through the same desk as at the Medical Center/Counseling Center. In order to use the same system, the easiest solution would be to hire a chiropractor already in the current Mid-Michigan Health System. Since this health system is used across the state, including at the Wilcox Medical Center, hiring a chiropractor already in the system would help eliminate the issue of having to hire a new secretary and purchasing a new waiting room. If Alma College’s chiropractor were to be a part of the Mid-Michigan system, we would not need to accommodate for these issues as they could use the resources already set in place. The last topic we discussed was the lack of an X-Ray machine on campus.
These machines are costly and the fact that Alma College does not have one may prove to be an issue for some chiropractors. However, there are chiropractors who don’t require the use of X-Ray machines to provide services. Many chiropractors are able to treat normal patients without X-Rays. However, an X-Ray machine may be a worthy investment sometime down the road, especially if a chiropractor is hired.
Mrs. Lambrecht’s overall opinion on the subject was positive. She thought that this was an excitingly unique idea and could prove to be highly beneficial. Her main concern was whether or not students would be interested in and actually use a chiropractor if one were to be provided. To find out this information, I recommend sending out a survey to students and faculty to determine if demand is present. The only reason I have not done so is because student surveys will have a much lower turnout rate than if it is sent out by a faculty member (especially the

President). My next conversation was with the Athletic Trainer, Brett Knight. Similar to Mrs. Lambrecht, Mr. Knight had a positive reaction to the idea of a school chiropractor. The main issue I discussed with him was the lack of space in the Hogan Center for a chiropractor to operate. There are not any open physician rooms for private treatment. In order for a chiropractor to provide private treatment in Hogan, renovations and/or changes would need to be made in order to accommodate for the lack of space. This is why I feel more positively about the space in the Medical Center. The second topic we discussed was the issue of finding a chiropractor willing to work full-time at a college.
There are several issues that a potential chiropractor may have with this: will they receive summer pay when there are not students on campus? Will they make more money here at Alma or would it be more beneficial to start their own practice? If it is not possible to find a candidate willing to initially work full-time, Alma could potentially contract an already existing chiropractor to work part-time at the college, providing service on certain times and dates. Mr. Knight also mentioned how there are some Alma College alumni currently in chiropractic school, so they may have interest in coming back to work for the
college. So, there are all these ways Alma College would benefit from having a chiropractor, but how much would it cost? Unfortunately, the cost of this proposal can only be estimated due to its situational nature. The cost would depend on which chiropractor was hired, whether they full or part-time, and what equipment they would require. In order to estimate a cost, I will use the average salary of chiropractors in the United States and the cost of the most essential piece of equipment, a chiropractic table. The average salary is $144,419 and the cost of properly starting a chiropractic practice entirely from scratch is roughly $100,000. Therefore, in order to hire a chiropractor and build a practice, the total cost would be about $244,419. If an increase in tuition were to cover these costs, tuition would rise by roughly $168 (based on 1,451 students). This increase in would provide enough funds to build an entirely new chiropractic center on campus as well as cover the chiropractor’s salary for one year. The tuition would only grow by this amount for one year since the $100,000 estimated cost is not recurring. After the first year, the rise in tuition (from its amount before the implementation of the chiropractor) would be about $100. It is important when look at this estimated cost to consider that this takes into account starting a chiropractic practice entirely from scratch. As mentioned earlier in my proposal, I do not anticipate having to start a practice from scratch. A large portion of that $100,000 is for the cost of the building. If the chiropractor were to use part of the Medical Center or the Hogan Center, the cost would greatly decrease.
In the radiology profession first you must write the patient’s file. This includes information about insurance, medical history, what the required x-ray is for and where it is going to be taken on the body. Writing in this way is similar to writing a small research paper. You must do research on the patients and there history and what insurance they have. Writing the report is important because the information must be accurate so the patient can be helped as much as possible. If the information about medical history is incorrect it can cause a huge problem for the patient. For example, if the patient is claustrophobic they would need to get an open room x-ray where the patient isn’t in an enclosed tube so they don’t have a panic attack and potentially injure themselves and others. It is very important to make sure the report has the correct area of where the x-ray needs to be taken. Having the wrong part of the body x-...
“The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease” by Thomas A. Edison. Chiropractors use hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments on the spine which will enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication. Chiropractic care began in 1895 when its founder, Daniel David Palmer, claimed any and all diseases could be healed by nothing more than just his hands. Dr. Palmer examined a janitor who was deaf for 17 years after the janitor felt his back was out of place, so Dr. Palmer gave an adjustment to what was felt to be a misplaced vertebra in the upper back. The janitor then observed that his hearing improved thanks to Dr. Palmer. Chiropractors use manipulation to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by sitting without proper back support. Chiropractic is primarily used as a pain relief alternative for muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue, such as cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. About 22 million Americans visit chiropractors annually
Individuals who go through the process of becoming a chiropractor are dedicating their lives to improve others through their own hands. Giving a patient relief and satisfaction without harming their body with drugs that can have horrible side effects is a feeling that is unlike anything else. Facilitating an individual to heal and strengthening their life entirely is what chiropractors strive for and many accomplish that ambition. Additionally, studies and surveys have shown why students of chiropractic chose this profession. The top reasons were that they truly want to help people and heal them, the increase in financial status, and the ambition of having the title “Doctor.” (Wardwell 154). Chiropractors must complete many demanding courses
The word “chiropractor” has two word origins, the Greek words cheir and praxis; meanwhile, cheir means “hand” and praxis means “practice.” Also, most of the work that chiropractors do is done by hand (Pike para. 5). In 2002, going to a chiropractor was found to be the most commonly used program for therapy. Seventy-four percent, about 4 million, of people that had back pain went to a chiropractor to get treated. Among that 74 percent of people, 66 percent of them stated that they got “a great benefit” (Pike para. 9). Many chiropractors work full time but 1 out of 3 chiropractors work part time. Chiropractors work whenever their patients need them, even on w...

On the industry, there are some negative results because now elders are not going to want to go to that facility knowing someone who worked there, was sharing other residents information. It makes the others feel unsafe, and they will not want to put their trust into that industry. Even Though there are some negative effects on the industry, there are some positive effects on the community. Like I mentioned earlier, the Office of Civil Rights is taking charge and enforcing training upon the state attorneys general. This allows there to hopefully less hipaa violations in the future. It helps the community grow by the facility becoming more trustworthy, so medical advancements can be made, and there will be more profit in the facility and more jobs.
Physical therapy is a career that will always be needed throughout society; it helps the human body rebuild physical function in people that have been injured, have birth defects, or any other reasons. Physical therapy is one the medical specialties doctors reply on. There are certain education requirements to become one, just like many other careers. It is a career that an individual who enjoys helping people and working in the medical field would be perfect for. The job of physical therapy and physical therapy assistants is an important factor to a lot of people. It is a job that will always be needed; there will always be people that need help regaining their physical health to be able to walk again or maybe just be able to move their thumb
One of many reasons that the Delta College program appeals to me is because it prepares students for real life experiences. I appreciate how the Delta College has small classes where students are more than just a number to their teachers, and receive individualized attention. Along with networking and internship opportunities that could help to to begin my career, it also excites me to know the possibility of earning my bachelor degree within three years. Another aspect of the Delta College that excites me is that students have peer mentors to help them navigate the first year of college, and for me, that would be tremendously helpful. I hope that being a part of this program will help me excel academically, and even socially
After attending my summer orientation, I started to adjust to the idea of college life a little bit more. I met new people, got to know a new area, and overall became more acquainted with the life I would be living for the next couple of years. Overall, orientation made college a reality for me.
Academic advising plays a huge role in students’ lives and it is a share responsibility between the student and their advisors. There are many ways in which advising benefit students. Advising enhance students’ abilities to utilize the resources that colleges provide for their students. Guiding students to stay in the right track of their academic courses and following up with all the updates and requirements to graduate is also objectives of the advisors. Advisors encourage students to get involved in the college activities, such as clubs, sports, extra courses and so on of the resources that are available for students. They help students to find scholarships and prepare them to transfer to the next step of what they want to do after their college careers. There are many positive effects of having an advisor in your college career. However, many students these days do not take an advantage of this resource due to lack of Advising communication and others. Although the advising office and the advisors lack several skills, such as good communication, not enough time spent with students, and limited knowledge. However, there are many positive effects of having advisors
In order for someone to boost their patients, they need to practice it. Patients takes practice. Patients is important as a college student because you are always learning new things, and interacting with peers. In order to become good at something or a subject, it needs to be practiced until the person is good at it. This will be a process that will need patients because no one can get the hang of everything right away. This
This problem goes along with the issue of location because students have no other option but to journey to the west side of campus for help. In contrast, the University does offer other services for students that are scattered throughout campus, such as the outreach clinics of Student Health and Wellness. These clinics provide medical and wellness services by informing students on health related topics such as nutrition, fitness, sexual health, and drug and alcohol abuse. These services are located in two locations on campus, the IMU, where there are nurses on staff, and the campus rec center (CRWC). Because of these three locations, Students have more access to help and have the ability to choose locations near them. The University also offers a variety of academic help to its students in various locations. If the University can offer all of these resources to help students’ physical health and academic work, they should be able to provide more resources for their students’ mental health. By only offering help in one building, the University is lowering the chances of students going to get help by limiting their accessibility to helpful
Second positive externality is that almost all my friends currently staying inside the campus. So, we can easily meet up for dinner or discuss group assignments. It is also very nice when we meet each other near collage so often.
