At Princess Charlotte’s christening, a good test of the effectiveness of these insoles was seen when the Duchess had to walk in high heels from Sandringham House all the way to St. Mary Magdalene Church, an estimated mile-long distance. Despite the long walk, she didn’t appear to struggle in her sky-high heels at all while pushing her newborn along in a pram.
Rachel Bowditch on her website says that she designed the insoles to eliminate blisters, creating a comfortable solution for ladies wanting to wear their favourite shoes more often. She saw that the other options for insoles out there on the market were “unsightly” so set out to create her own stylish
solution. Within a Greek city, in a complex of temples, lays a marble relief panel known as the Nike Adjusting Her Sandal. Famous for its elaborately carved details and high level of skill, this Classical Greek sculpture stands 3 feet 6 inches tall and has been a subject of discussion between art historians for decades. The panel originates from the city of Athens’ Acropolis in Ancient Greece circa 410 BCE. Prior to the sculpture’s carving, the Athenians faced hardship when the Persians destroyed their original temples in 480 BCE. However, this prompted the leader of Athens, Pericles, to rebuild the Acropolis under a new, classical, principal. Pericles was an exceptional orator, general, politician, and patron of the arts. His rule lasted from 495 BCE

While reading the De-Orbit Burn module book, I noticed that the origin of the modern midsole for athletic shoes originates from lunar boots used on Apollo missions (Texas, 2013). As a distance runner, I was interested to say the least, so I immediately looked up the correlation of lunar boots to athletic shoes for myself. It did not take long before I came across an article by Jim Sam entitled Technological Spinoffs: Spinoffs from the Space Program. According to this article, “Technology originally developed for the boots worn on the moon, has now been applied to athletic shoes in the mid-sole section. The technology improves shock absorption, stability, and motion control,” (n.d.). It was then that I realized that, thanks to athletic sneakers, we are all walking in the shoes of astronauts.
In Small Shoes, Camille Licate shares her story of how she has learned to let go of the things in life that had been holding her back, so that she could be open to new opportunities. She does this by using the metaphor of shoes. While there are some opportunities in life that help to carry you forward, eventually, you may need to let go of them in order to take advantage of other opportunities. Likewise, you cannot keep using the same pair of shoes forever. At some point, you will outgrow them, and need a new pair to help you get to the place where you need to be. Through this metaphor, Licate explains how your plans for the future may change with time and dance is not the only career path out there for dance majors. She also relates
The Ionic Chiton was also often found in women's dress. Much like the Doric Chiton, it was once piece of fabric that was draped over the wearer. It was woven out of thin woolen type materials, like a gauzy type material. It was sewn at the top across the shoulders and down the arms, and was usually pleated.
The 18th century fashion for men and women was influenced by the royal court and Puritans. Women’s fashion was very elegant and colorful, more so than the men’s fashion. The shoes worn by the women of the 18th century were made of silks and satin. They were decorated in laces and had a square or round shape. They also began to wear shoes of different and vibrant colors with higher heels. A majority of the time their shoes were not shown because of their extravagant skirts and petticoats. Lace was a stylish detail to women’s fashion during that time. They wore lace gloves and their petticoats were trimmed in lace. Men wore knee high boots that were either high-heeled or flat along with their knee length trousers. Their shoes were often neutral colors dark brown, light ...
Women are always searching for the right shoe. There are so many different styles, types, colors, and even heights. To me the two most common types are high heels and flats. Well, at least in today’s fashion those are the two most common. Both, if paired with the correct outfit are simply stunning. High heels offer a sexier look that’s nearly impossible to get from a flat shoe. Nevertheless, I feel very strongly about women in high heels. They make your legs look longer, butt look better, and they are sexier than flats. On the other hand, if you’re running around and being busy all day, nothing feels better than a cute pair of flats. Its time we hit the ground running as we explore the real similarities and differences of the two common types of shoes, in which I mean comfort, styles, and versatility.
