88,000 people die from alcohol every year, and 30 people die in car crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver. You may not know the effects of alcohol abuse, or you may not know what it is. Alcohol abuse has many risks and could kill you. There is a way you can get yourself treated, but you have to be willing to do it, which is the hard part for many alcohol abusers. Alcohol abuse means the misuse of alcohol. Even though you might only drink alcohol once or twice a week but you still can be an alcohol abuser. That is because whenever you drink alcohol you drink it to the point where you put yourself in risky situations or even drink enough to cause alcohol poisoning. Alcohol effects vary from person to person depending on your characteristics including; your age, how often you drink, how much you drink, and your health status. The symptoms of alcohol poisoning include; confusion vomiting, seizures, slow breathing, irregular breathing, blue-tinged skin or pale skin, low body temperature, and passing out can’t be awakened. Signs of alcohol abuse include; having blackouts, drinking while driving, being late or not going to school or work, being arrested or harming someone while you were intoxicated, get hurt yourself, drinking while having health problems which are worsened by alcohol. Signs of alcoholism include; can’t stop drinking, can’t control yourself while drinking, you keep drinking till you get the same effect as last time, you get withdrawal symptoms (anxiety, shakiness, sweating or feeling sick to your stomach), you spend a lot of time drinking, you spend a lot of time recovering from the night before, sacrificed many things just so you can drink, and you keep drinking even though it's harming your …show more content…

Just because they leave in a few hours doesn’t mean their not harmful. These effects include; Slurred speech, drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach, headaches, breathing difficulties, distorted vision and hearing, impaired judgment, decreased perception and coordination, unconsciousness, anemia (loss of red blood cells), coma, blackouts (memory lapses, where the drinker cannot remember events that occurred while under the influence), and unlike short-term effects long-term effects don’t disappear within a few hours. Long-term effects are more serious than short-term effects, but if you stop drinking from there and on you could avoid these effects. Some long term effects include; Unintentional injuries such as car crash, falls, burns, drowning, intentional injuries such as firearm injuries, sexual assault, domestic violence, increased on-the-job injuries and loss of productivity, increased family problems, broken relationships, alcohol poisoning, high blood pressure, stroke, and other heart-related diseases, liver disease, nerve damage, sexual problems, permanent damage to the brain, vitamin B1 deficiency, which can lead to a disorder characterized by amnesia, apathy and disorientation, ulcers, gastritis (inflammation of stomach walls), malnutrition, cancer of the mouth and
