Dave Matthews Band’s album Crash was their second major-label release and debatably one of their most popular albums, as well. The band is made up of multiple brilliant musicians consists of the violinist Boyd Tinsley, carter Beauford the drummer, Dave Matthews the main singer, as well as, guitarist, bassist Stefan Lessard, and finally Leroi Moore playing the saxophone (Dmb Tour Members). Dave Matthews Band was started in early 1991 and has only grown bigger and better throughout the years making them a statement band in our society. The twelve song album bounces from upbeat to mellow songs in a perfect blend that fits together so outstandingly.
The album Crash’s first song is “So Much To Say”. It is a very upbeat catchy song that starts the album off wonderfully. It discusses how we instill in society the necessity to stay artificial in our conversations with others instead of talking about what is really on our minds.
The second song on the album, “Two Step”, is about Dave needing a break from his busy lifestyle and going to the woman he loves and she "drives me to distraction". She comes to him when he has "grown tired of water all the time" and she is the wine that will quench his thirst (Lyrics). He needs a change and she gives it to him making him realize that he should celebrate life more.
“Crash Into Me” is one of the band’s most popular hits. Supposedly it is about a fifteen year old, peeping tom’s desire for an older lady through her window. Yet only Dave Matthews could make such an odd song such a beautiful love melody.
“Too Much” is about the corruption in modern society. The way businesses are able to exploit people with contracts and paper work like in the lines “Because in between the lines

Symbolism can be defined as “the representation of a reality on one level of reference by a corresponding reality on another” (“Symbolism” 564). The word symbol comes from the Greek word "symballein," which translates literally into “to throw together” and suggests the combining of two unrelated worlds. Much...
... song represent each man almost equally in that each man has a difficult, dark past. Each song, while different at first, have many similarities in their result. So if the industrial version by Nine Inch Nails does not appeal to you, maybe the country/gospel version by Johnny Cash is right up your alley.
One of the songs on this album, "Gravedigger" might stand out to one who has listened to the band before. Instead of displaying a hippie, live life to its fullest theme, the idea in this song is of life leading to death. The narrator, Dave, is introducing us in first person to four different people who are all in turn brought together by a gravedigger. Dave speaks to the gravedigger, although never answered, in the song by asking, " Will...
Crash portrayed many different scenarios that many people go through on a daily basis. The movie engages viewers into everyone’s world. Everyone has something that they are battling constantly, but the movie depicts that only the person going through the troubles has the ability to change what is going on. Anyone can change their views on the world if they want to; all they have to do is
Racism has been introduced in America over a long period of time; moreover, since the beginning of the 18th century and it is still being executed today. Racism is a belief to make each race either feel superior or inferior to another. In Crash, racial prejudice is manifested throughout the film within many social groups. The film Crash demonstrates racial prejudice towards many ethic groups by displaying stereotypes, violence, and racial tensions.
Symbolism is a symbol of whatever the object or subject is about. Every little object can be used as a symbol of whatever. Like in math, for example shapes and numbers symbolize anything it can be. Also, the American flag, It has fifty stars, representing 50 states. Also, colors may be used as a symbol. Especially in the person, you can see their true color on how they are or act. Like red angry, blue sad, green happy, black dark, purple love, anything represents something. This is most likely your tone of mood. Also, signs outdoors have symbols. Like signs you see on the road, express way, ditches, restaurants, stores, etc. Most likely everywhere, you just got to pay more attention in what is outdoors and what’s around you.
To start the concert, the band played a couple tracks from their first album, “Here in America”. The first was the title track, “Here in America”. This song followed an American popular song thirty-two b...
The film Crash occurs in the city of Los Angeles and its theme focuses on the diverse population of the city. It emphasizes alienation amongst the cultural groups where any meaningful connection occurs only if the characters in the film ‘crash’ into each other. The city is home to lively displays of wealth that is generally associated with the entertainment industry and so that makes income inequality a very negative aspect of the Los Angeles metropolis. There is a surge of immigrant population that struggles with racism, stereotypical behavior, and alienation in addition to the social inequality. The movie focuses on the lives of several characters in urban America. All of the characters exemplify vast differences in demography like age, gender, and class. These include characters of African American, Persian, Asian, Hispanic, Latino, and Caucasian descent. The film depicts these characters as harboring prejudices from their impressions and individual beliefs toward each other as well as using stereotypes to define each other. The concepts and specific approach that helps explain this film is identifying the issue of class, age, and ethnicity and how it shapes the views and actions of three characters in the film. Anthony, a black male that fits to his stereotype as a gangster from the ghettos of L.A.; Cameron Thayer, a successful black man that is conflicted about his role and identity in modern day society based on his color and career, and Farhad, a Persian immigrant that has his own conceptions and prejudice towards any person of color due to his beliefs and habitus, the cumulative embodied experiences that are shaped by structural realities. This film has its characters already shaped or in the process of shaping their ident...

You would know right away that it was going to be a sad song when the video started with James Bay sitting alone in a bleak and somber room, along with the acoustic guitar tune playing. His state of composition was similar to mine when I listened to his song. Emotionless and with eyes shut as I lied on my bed, there was no one around other than myself in a dark empty space with “Let It Go,” by James Bay playing, and the sound of my steady heart beats. I listened to this song not to reminisce about an unfortunate relationship, but rather to hear the words that soothe the soul of a victim who has experienced bullying. Many people had stated that the song is about a heartfelt break up between two lovers, but I say
Following the September 11th terrorist attacks, Clear Channel Communications, the largest owner of radio stations in the United States, releases a list of more than 150 "lyrically questionable"songs that stations may want to pull from their playlists. Few songs portray explicit violence, but most have metaphoric themes that ring a bit too close to the tragedies. The list, containing music from almost every genre in popular music, includes Sugar Ray's "Fly," "Jet Airliner" by Steve Miller, Nine Inch Nails'; "Head Like a Hole," AC/DC's "Shoot to Thrill" and "Highway to Hell," Pat Benatar's "Hit Me with Your Best Shot," "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas, Jerry Lee Lewis's "Great Balls of Fire," REM's "It's the End of the World as We Know It," "Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel, Dave Matthews Band's "Crash Into Me," "Nowhere to Run" by Martha & the Vandellas, and all songs by Rage Against The Machine.
The song is about Bill Barilko, a Toronto Maple Leaf who scored the goal that won the Leafs the Stanley Cup. He went on a fishing trip in 1950 and disappeared. The Leafs didn’t win another Stanley Cup until 1962, which was the year his body was discovered. After Downie died, the Toronto Maple Leafs had a minute of silence at their game and lowered from the rafters Barilko’s retired jersey as a tribute.
How often do you listen to music? How often do you actually think about the lyrics you listen to? Do you ever interoperate a song differently from the way the writer intended it to be? Well, in Brooke’s bog there are a whole lot of interpretations to songs we have all listened to a least once before.
“Car Radio” performed by Twenty One Pilots, is the song I have chosen to break down and explain why it relates to me in my life. It was around one to two years ago late at night when I discovered the song. I was in my room using the app called “Spotify” that plays random music based off an artist or song of your choosing. I was hanging in my room playing video games and surfing the internet when the song came on. Every word I heard I could easily relate them to my life. The song was released on “Youtube” April 19, 2013, but it was released as a single on March 18, 2014. “Car Radio” was written and recorded as Twenty One Pilots’ second and third studio album.
Rick Ross is not the only entertainer in the music industry who has promoted rape culture. Pop mogul Robin Thicke in 2013 released a controversial song called “Blurred Lines”. With lyrics such as "I know you want it", the song conceptualizes consent as a "blurry" idea. A ballad that has been played during the holidays since the 1940s, “Baby It’s Cold Outside” showcases the persistent attempts on a young woman who continues to say no over and over. He tries to persuade her with alcohol, she even asks did he put anything in her drink. Crash Into Me by Dave Matthews Band promotes stalking the singer describes himself watching a girl in a peeping tom manner. At the end of the song Dave
