Honestly, I don’t believe I have used any of these theories as skills during this class. The only one I believe I gained and sort of use, if any would have to be “Social Cognitive Theory”. I believe that “people watching” is a great way to learn. I watch my peers and learn from them not just in this class but on a daily basis. This theory talks about how it uses portions of the individual’s knowledge acquisition can be directly related to observing others within the context of social interactions, experiences, and outside media influences. This theory is used in psychology, education, and communication.
“Learning would be exceedingly laborious, not to mention hazardous, if people had to rely solely on the effects of their own actions to inform them what to do. Fortunately, most human behavior is learned observationally through modeling: from observing others one forms an idea of how new behaviors are performed, and on later occasions this coded information serves as a guide for actions.” This statement was said by Albert Bandura creator of the SCT. Social Cognitive theory first came from Albert Bandura because he first used this theory in a psychological model of behavior used in psychology. Bandura believed that by watching people that you can learn new information. He first called this observational learning or modeling, this type of learning can be used to explain a variety of behaviors. Some have said that this theory is the most influential theory of learning and development. Social cognitive theory emphasizes that learning often occurs in a social context and that majority of what is learned is gained through observation. One example of how Bandura first used this theory was through his Bobo doll experiment. But Bandura ...

For instance, let’s say that a Budweiser commercial comes on the tv and its directed towards people 21 and over, well, instead some teenagers might think it looks fun and want to try it. Some media may be intentional but some can also be unintentional, but no matter what the reasoning SCT is present because it’s shaping ones thoughts and actions.
Social Cognitive Theory has been around for a long time and always will be. From when Bandura first created it to using it through mass media. I’ve used Social Cognitive theory by watching my peers and not successfully imitating them but I’ve tried. All in all, I believe SCT is a great speech theory and I believe everyone can learn from it.
