Statement of Purpose
My earliest exposure to economics came from my dad, a logistics manager. The interesting stories he told me from his work stimulated my youthful sense of curiosity and passion on economics. At the same time, I observed the antiquated and ineffective technology they use to make decisions and hoped that one day I could be able to tackle the problems. The first Agricultural Economics class I took at Purdue was Microeconomics for Food and Agribusiness, by Dr. Frank Dooley. His heuristic teaching style and the fabulous content brought me to the world of agricultural economics. I found that enormous principles in life can be explained through these basic economics concepts, such as the diminishing utility and opportunity cost. Agricultural economics has truly broadened my horizon. Applied Econometrics, by Dr. James Eales, quickly heightened my interest due to the combination of math; statistics with economics were used to prove theories, in which I found stronger and great sense to me. My attentiveness of math reflected by taking part in Mathematical Olympiad classes with high scores for six years acted as a stepping stone for econometrics study. Therefore, I doubled major in Applied Agricultural Economics, which means I must double my efforts to study than others. And I did with great grades on all the Agricultural Economics courses, and with a minor in Food and Agribusiness Management. I appreciate my horticultural background as a great support for my research in Agricultural Economics since I know the crops’ biological features and production cycles intimately.
My research interest got specific during the study of Agricultural Prices and Techniques for Firm Decision. I surveyed a simulated product, a one-time on...

As an undergraduate, I was still a successful student despite being a slower reader and I do not believe it will hinder my success in graduate school.
All in all, with my personality and academic abilities, I believe my interest in Agricultural Economics area can make me suitable and very dedicated in the coming research life. If I get admitted into the program, I will choose the thesis option and master deeper and more professional knowledge. After getting my master’s degree, I hope to pursue a doctoral degree to prepare me as a professor or researcher after my schooling. I highly appreciate your kind consideration of my application and it will be a significant milestone in my life.

This highlights that a core principal of economics is the decisions and choices to be made in order to manage limited resources. Furthermore, that microeconomics pertains to the behaviours that affect these decisions and choices made at an individual level. As demonstrated by the avocado industry recently, motives and variable factors for increases/decreases in supply and demand will not always be transparent to the consumer. Therefore, to have an understanding of the concepts of microeconomics and the market can elucidate the individual consumer’s decision making rationale rather than making
“I am thrown off my reading game when forced to read to fast,” wrote Thomas Newkirk author of The Art of Slow Reading. No matter where I was I didn’t like having to read on a time period; it was always a lot of pressure on me. It was either my mom or teachers rushing me to read. But over time, I started to accept the pressure. As I look back in my life, I realize my reading experiences have had an impact on my life.
An exceptionally eminent faculty, an environment abounded with scholastic activity and a graduate program that beautifully blends the pearls of high-end course work and research facilities at the avant-grade of every field are the attributes that drive my motivation to choose your university for my graduate studies. I can affirm that I possess the basic aptitude, dedication and potential to maintain the aspiration and motivation required for my graduate study. I am certain that the graduate program offered by your University will prove to be the most efficient and effective approach towards my future career. I am convinced that this opportunity will significantly heighten my research expertise, providing me with the essential competence and allowing me to presume my knowledge and potentials to an advanced level.
In conclusion of this application I would like to thank the committee for taking the time out of their busy lives to contribute to us, future graduate students, and I am excited to take the next step in my life, which is undertaking a graduate studies program. Again thank you for your time and consideration. I will wait patiently for your response.
In today's world, economics associated disciplines are of fundamental significance and application and this has encouraged me to pursue a degree in Economics. Economics has an important relevance in all of our lives. As consumers we try to make the best of our limited incomes. As workers we take our place in the job market. As citizens of a country our lives are affected by the decisions of our government: decisions over taxes, decisions over spending on health and education, decisions on interest rates, decisions that affect unemployment, inflation and growth. As dwellers on the planet Earth we are affected by the economic decisions of each other: the air we breathe, the water we drink and the environment we leave for future generations are all affected by the economic decisions taken by the human race. It is these stimulating issues that excite me about economics. I enjoy studying Economics enormously and believe my passionate interest in economics is continually strengthened by my regular reading of 'The Economist'

Every time a person goes to the store and buys some food that food was grown by a farmer or contain ingredients from the farmer’s crops. A farmer is a good job because the work they do helps to provide the world with food. Without farmers many people would go hungry not knowing how to grow their own food. Without farmers many other products other than food would be gone. Farmers work hard long days and often go unnoticed; however, without them life would be much different.
To understand why is agriculture important in the world of today, then first of all we must know what agriculture is? Agriculture is the basic material production of society, the use of land for agriculture and livestock, mining plants and animals as raw materials and labor to produce mainly food and some raw materials for industry. Agriculture is a major industry, covering many disciplines: planting, breeding and processing of agricultural products; in the broadest sense, also including forestry and fisheries. Agriculture is an important economic sector in the economy of many countries, especially in the past century , when the industry has not yet developed. Since the dawn of history, agriculture has been one of the importance means of producing
I am aware of the kind of dedication, perseverance and resolve I need to have for undertaking my graduate studies. I am confident that given the opportunity, I would perform to the best of my abilities and seek to acquire skills that will help me achieve my goals and contribute towards research endeavours. It would indeed be a great pleasure and honour to study at your university
The global population in the year 2050 is expected to be nine billion and the agricultural demand is expected to double. With the current population already over seven billion people, there are hunger issues all around the world (“New” par. 1). How are we going to deal with food shortages in the future? With less land to work with, strains on the soils, and the lack of water, it is getting harder for the farmers of the world to support our growing population. These complications are making it harder for farmers to produce quality, affordable food. To help the crops grow better, farmers use fertilizers and chemical sprays to enhance growth and control the weeds. Farming in the United States is a relevant business because it supplies people with food, provides people with jobs maintaining the used equipment with the new equipment being much more expensive, and it provides research for more efficient ways on how to feed the world.
Wise (2014), discusses that within the twenty first century in which the efficient completion of tasks is essential, speed reading is extremely advantageous. Not only does speed reading allow for the quicker acquisition of knowledge, it has shown to influence the brains functionality. Thus, one displays enhanced memory abilities, a higher level of attention and focus as well as a heightened problem solving ability (Wise, 2014). Despite the advantages of an increased reading speed, there is a large and significant disadvantage (Bell, 2001). The danger of developing a rapid reading rate, is that one’s level of comprehension is severely compromised. Therefore, a speed reader would not acquire an adequate amount of information when reading swiftly. It is possible that this disadvantage will have a detrimental effect on the precise completion of various academic and recreational tasks (Bell,
People have depended on agriculture for years as the primary source of getting food. We have developed all kinds of ways to manipulate nature so what we can produce higher yield crops, more nutritious crops, bigger crops, crops that withstand cold, and farming equipment that allows us to manufacture these crops with relative ease. Why then are there five billion people being malnourished and forty thousand children dying each day from hunger? It seems as though world hunger is more a result of the lack of distributing the food properly than the lack of quantity. agriculture has turned into a high profit business and biotech companies like Monsanto are constantly trying to come up with better and more efficient ways of farming. Are they doing this to try to solve the world hunger crisis, or merely to make a profit?
