Bryan Ellison, a 23-year-old CSUB student who works as an ITA Lead with the Helpdesk and is a Bakersfield native. He was raised as a Cristian and is married. He interviewed Kevin and Israel on the topic of religion. Kevin is a 24-year-old and is of Agnostic religion. He was born in Los Angeles, CA and works as a commercial plumber. He wishes for people to know that people who Agnostic have normal lives just like everyone else. The practice of agnostic religion differs from that of Atheists. The difference is that atheists do not believe that God exists whereas being agnostic, there is no belief nor disbelief that there is a God or not. They are kind of in between to this notion. Some changes he wants to see in society is that religion or lack of a type of religion is not enough to make judgment’s. He’s had experiences with others who do not have any preference of a type of religion and they are some of the nicest people he’s ever come to know. Would like for others to get to know people before judgment arises. Some insights he shared with the class is that each group of people have their “bad apples”, but it doesn’t mean you should hate all who are a part of that group. Exploring human diversity Kevin says that people should not be naïve and believe everything other people say about other religions, even family. College students should realize that diversity shouldn’t make you want to dislike someone because they are different from you. If you disagree with what they have to say is okay but it shouldn’t limit you to find a balance and knowing that they might actually turn out to be a great person. He is a student and is of Roman Catholic religion. What Israel wished others to know of his religion is that they tend to spread the word of God like most religions do. However, they don’t try to convert people like other religions he has seen. Also, Catholics do not judge other religions as much. He’s been criticized over Lent in the sense of other Christians questioning the fasting aspect of it. He’s also been questioned about worshiping the Virgin Mary. Israel would like to see some changes in our society stating that religion is a faith to help guide people through life and would like to see less scrutiny over it. Some insights on diversity Israel shared with us is that we shouldn’t judge others until we get to know them and if interested in other people’s religion to just ask in an inoffensive way. A way for college students to realize about diversity is that even though diversity is all around us there are still some people who are close-minded and disregard it. Some students may do so because they come from a different environment and are not used to experiencing new things and maybe too scared to even try. Israel’s advice for the class was that Christianity has killed more people in the name of God, because of the crusades, but we should still not point our fingers at a single person for what their religion has done in the
