Tupac Shakur once said, “Is it a crime? To fight for what’s mine”. In other words people constantly fight for things that is their but is not given, for example many fight for freedom, respect, rights, and list goes on. There are many factors that play a part when it comes to someone committing a crime. Many think that committing a crime is a stupid decision that one made and that could be true but there are other possible factors that come in to play. Agnew’s general strain theory, Heather L. Scheuerman, Lisa Broidy, and Francis T. Cullen theory deriving from Agnew’s theory will help people gain a better understanding of these factors.
In 2005, Agnew introduced a new integrated theory, which is called General Strain theory. Agnew labels a general theory of crime and delinquency, he proposes that delinquency is more likely to occur when a constraints against delinquency are low and motivations for delinquency are high. These negative emotions are said to create pressures for corrective action, with crime or delinquency being one possible response. The General Strain theory, (GST), empowers three major types of strain involving the incapability of achieving goals or how Agnew called it “Goal Blockage”. Goal blockage plays a apart when it comes to aspirations and expectations because, the stressor that are activated when the outcome of achieving the aspiration that one has set out to accomplish does not go as plan or achieving the expectations of certain goals don’t go well either it tends to lead to disappointments and dissatisfaction.
