The Age of Exploration began in the early 1400s, the Europeans started to dominate the world. This is a time period that brought two worlds together. European explorers were able to discover the New World for many different reasons. Their actions cause great changes for both worlds. Even though there were negative effects of the new world, the Age of Exploration brought two worlds together because economic gain was the main cause of the Age, and the actions caused great change for both worlds.
The Age of Exploration was caused by advances in technology. Price Henry of Portugal started a navigation school. Some of the advances were compasses, cannons and sails for the ships, new guns, and maps. Two of the most influential explorers of the Age, were students of Prince Henry at his navigation school. Their names are Vasco da Gama and Bartholomew Dias. Fame was one of the causes of the Age of Exploration. Most of the explorers wanted their name to be known throughout the entire world and wanted to leave behind a legacy. To be in control over a certain area, European kingdoms would finance the explorers. Another cause of the Age of Exploration was Religious factors. After gaining the trust of the locals, the explorers would take control, so that they could spread their version of Christianity around to the New World.

Economic gain was the main cause of the Age of Exploration. There were negative effects on the New World.
Since the Europeans were coming to the Americas , most of all the Native American population was destroyed. The negative effect was the diseases that were spread throughout Europe, and most people were vulnerable to. There was hostility between two different groups of people. One group was the introduction of Christianity to the natives, and the other was the expulsion of the Natives from their own land. Some other negative effects of colonization of the New World were on the environment. Those negative effects were the reduction of nutrients in soil, deforestation, and also new foreign animal and
plants. There were also positive effects on the New World. A positive effect on the New World would be new and improved inventions. Over a period of time, the weapons became stronger and more powerful than the Natives weapons. The Natives become fond of the Europeans weapons, and traded them as often as they could. Catholic Religion was dominant in the Southwest. As time went on, Europeans that were settled attempted to force the Natives into Christianity. But the Natives refused and continued to keep the Catholic Religion dominant. Native American languages slowly started to dissipate from normal everyday use. English became more commonly used, but places and names still remain Indian names. In conclusion there was great change for both worlds because economic gain was the main cause for the Age. Even though there were negative effects of the new world, the Age of Exploration brought two worlds together.
The other reason for exploration was everyone wanted more land to expand their power. Both England and France got into multiple confrontations over land. With at least only 4 wars, England and France spent at least 32 years at war with each other (Document 7). Of those wars Britain mostly had the best outcomes of them. With Britain acquiring all this land, the slave trade then started appearing.Slaves were put on ships with horrible conditions (Document 4). Expansion of the new world was a major demand and also was a cause for the slave
The introduction nearly killed the entire population. Diseases like the smallpox, measles, chickenpox, influenza, and many others have helped to the extinction of almost half of the languages known today. When Europeans settled in the Native American land, the quickly tried to acculturate them by taking their land, fighting them for land, and later using reservations to almost incarcerate them for the outside world because they did not want to live like the white man. Native Americans did not like the way they were treated. Every generation that passes, there will be fewer and fewer Native Americans around the Americas.
Some consequences of the exchange are the spread of disease to the Native people and settlers, the destruction of the Native population, and the disappearance of the Natives custom’s, beliefs, and way of life. Columbus’s arrival to the Americas, land that had already been established by the Natives, resulted in a spread of fatal diseases. Disagreement between the Europeans and the Natives and the enslavement of Native people helped to wipe out the population. Document 5 illustrates the fighting that occurred between the Natives and Europeans.
The Age of Exploration brought many unforeseen changes to the people of Africa. On a path seeking gold, glory, and God, many explorers reached new parts of Africa. Explorers were seeking a more direct route to Asia and believed they must travel through Africa to reach these Asian lands. Namely, Portugal was interested in this under the direction of Prince Henry. There, he believed they could capture the riches of Muslim trade and convert the natives to Christianity. King Henry died before the route to Asia could be accomplished but he laid the groundwork for later exploration and encounters with Africa. During the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries, Europeans desire to find Asia greatly impacted the lives of native Africans through the slave
Dating back to the first occurrence of European colonization in the New World, Europeans have advanced their agenda of territorial expansion through the conquering of indigenous peoples. Clashes of culture brought forth a series of conflicts between Native Americans and European settlers that centered around differing religious beliefs and land ideologies. A tidal wave of new diseases also severely weakened the Native American population across the continent, leaving them vulnerable to the increased influx of European settlements. Over the span of 500 years, European impact would eradicate an estimated 60 million Native Americans ("Native North Americans”).
This was the positive effect of the encounter and it was largely responsible for the doubling of the world’s population over the next three hundred years. There were also many negative effects to the “Columbian Exchange”. A major consequence was the spread of disease in the New World. Diseases carried by Europeans and Africans devastated the population of the Americas. As Europeans traveled through the Americas, epidemics came with them.
The European influences to the Native Americans were Europeans carried the new diseases to the Indians. “Europeans were used to these diseases, but Indian people had no resistance to them. Sometimes the illnesses spread through direct contact with colonists. Other times, they were transmitted as Indians traded with one another. The result of this contact with European germs was horrible. Sometimes whole villages perished in a short time” (Kincheloe). Slave trade was another influence to American Indians. Europeans soon realized that they could provide commercial goods such as tools and weapons to some American Indian tribes that would bring them other Indians captured in tribal wars, and these captured Indians were bought and sold as slaves. Therefore, “slavery led to warfare among tribes and too much hardship. Many tribes had to move to escape the slave trade, which destroyed some tribes completely. In time, the practice of enslaving Native peoples ended. However, it had greatly affected American Indians of the South and the Southwest” (Kinchloe). Lastly, Europeans change Native America and African’ roots. Native Americans
The age exploration in Europe began in the 1400s. The rise of strong kingdoms, the desire for trade, improved navigation technology from Ptolemy and Al Idrisi like the astrolabe, compass, and better maps with longitude and latitude, and better ships like the caravel and naus led to a new era of exploration. After the Renaissance people knew the world was flat so they started to use the water more for sailing. The first country to send ships out was Portugal; in 1420, because they were at peace and had enough money they were the first to set out. They began mapping Africa’s coastline and trading with African Kingdoms. Prince Henry the Navigator of Portugal taught Sailors when he got too old and could no longer sail. Spain soon followed after
In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue, which started a huge push by European nations to gain power and wealth, mainly in the way of building Empires in the New World. This was called the Age of Exploration and lasted from the late 15th to the early 17th century. Spain, under King Ferdinand II of Aragon, was the first nation to do this. Juan Ponce de León was a conquistador and one of the earlier voyagers to the New World in the European Age of Exploration, he accomplished several notable things in his life, but overall and looking in hindsight he is seen as a failure when compared to other conquistadors.
The Effects of Colonization on the Native Americans Native Americans had inherited the land now called America and eventually their lives were destroyed due to European colonization. When the Europeans arrived and settled, they changed the Native American way of life for the worse. These changes were caused by a number of factors including disease, loss of land, attempts to export religion, and laws, which violated Native American culture. Native Americans never came in contact with diseases that developed in the Old World because they were separated from Asia, Africa, and Europe when ocean levels rose following the end of the last Ice Age. Diseases like smallpox, measles, pneumonia, influenza, and malaria were unknown to the Native Americans until the Europeans brought these diseases over time to them.
European exploration brought many new ideas and practices to the world. Europeans exploration discoveries brought negative and positive impacts to the society they were building. The explorations was a success for many countries, but it also was a loss for a lot of Native Americans people. The exploration started a new mankind, it gave countries and people items they never had. The discovery of new world was a big impacts from the European exploration. Countries were now fighting over lands and the resources that were on the land. Slavery and the Columbian change were also big impacts from the exploration. The world changed because of these three big impacts of the European explorations. There
Exploration and Colonization impacted the native peoples in positive and negative ways. These positive and negative impacts include religion, disease, and technology. These expeditions were occurring during the time that many European nations started searching for new trade routes and started spreading their influence to many new cultures. These people had their way of life, but the Europeans thought their way was better so they pushed their ways on the natives. Some Europeans had good relations with natives, but others did not.
The diseases they brought along with the wiped out massive amounts of the Native Americans. To the point where large sections of the continent turned into wilderness. Not only did the explorers and settlers bring death to humans, but also to the ecosystem. Where there once was forest and prairie, there is simple farmland now. Where a group of Native Americans could have hunted and survived, they could now only relocate. In the end, then when the settlers finally started to become a nation, then one of the first things they did was consolidate and relocate the Native Americans. Still referring to the Native Americans as savages, and making little to no effort to learn their ways or live together, they stole their land and had them trek across the country, so they could be someone else’s problem somewhere else. As a result of these actions, I do not believe it accurate or appropriate for us to view the settlers as we now do. They were nothing more than refugees bringing death and destruction to an entire continent. So, next time you are enjoying that thanksgiving play put on the by local elementary school, how about you take a moment to remember that America didn’t just happen when the settlers arrived. There were real people that lived real, valuable lives here before they arrived, and all the settlers did was clear the way for their
The Age of Exploration was a time period when Europeans made discoveries that transformed the world. The Age of Exploration was due to scientific developments and the desire for wealth. The Age of Exploration is a period that started in the 15th century with the first Portuguese explorations. During The Age of Exploration, Europeans used many tools and technology to make discoveries that transformed the world. During The Age of Exploration many explorers wanted to explore for many different reasons. Since they wanted to explore, they did explore and they made discoveries and explorations, and as a result, many effects many effects were made on the world.
The Age of Exploration was the time period where new discoveries of the world came about and, “ The Age of Exploration served as a stepping stone for geographical knowledge” (Briney). The Europeans were the founders of the hourglass and were known for their glassmaking. The Portuguese, Italians, and Spanish were the most involved during the Age of Exploration and by the fifteenth and sixteenth century the British, Spanish, and Dutch became involved (Kreis). They were actively pursuing new trade routes and searching for resources around the world. During the fourteenth century, the beginning of the Age of Exploration, there were not many opportunities to travel, which led the Europeans to innovating more convenient inventions for ships. Many new ships were invented, such as the caravel and galleon. The caravel was a sail ship with triangular sails enabling it t...
