On December 4th, I decided to indulge myself with some Chamber music in between my classes. I must admit I never saw myself as the type to go to a concert where there is not a large band and screaming fans. And, may I add, it was obligatory to go to this concert for my music class. But, when I arrived to the “Afternoon Chamber Music” event, I was pleasantly surprised. The music was different from the R&B, Hip-Hop and Rap music I usually amuse myself with. However, I enjoyed the change in setting.
This was my second concert of the semester. My first impression was the set up; the room was shadowy and the single light was focused on the stage. The audience was above the stage, which was on ground level. My first experience with the concert was so enjoyable that I had to go to another. In this concert there were four pieces performed. The first piece was by Ramirez. This included the percussion, piano, guitar. This was the first performed piece I heard that included percussion. I missed the first two performances, but once I arrived home, I looked them up. On the first listen the piece was catchy and something I bobbed my head to; I believe it was due to the percussion in the piece. His piece was called Fantasie in F minor. This piece included just a piano and three movements. This piece followed a formed I learned in music class where the composer would allow symmetry in their pieces. Therefore they would end the piece how they finished; the piece ended in the same movement it started with. The second half of the afternoon included a piece by Brahms, which was a viola sonata. A sonata is a piece made for a specific instrument; this was made for the viola, but there was accompaniment by a piano.
