A higher education is considered as the key to achieving academic success and economic success in our society. Without splitting up financial aid, the cost of tuition and fees at two year college is less than half of the tuition and fees at public four year or private four year institution. This research will prove doing two degrees will advantage for first generation. There are so many community colleges in American that provide two year degrees, According to Lu (2013), “This year, about 2,000 schools in 39 states and the District of Columbia are participating”. In other words, there are thousands of schools that provide two year degrees. This interpretation challenges the work of those critics who have long assumed that all of the colleges and government cares about having two year college for first generation. Although two year colleges may seem trivial, it is fact crucial in terms of today’s concern over four year college matters because it is one of the most widely applying colleges in the America. Thus, America’s two year college’s advantage for First Generation College students to depend on motivational to achieve higher education than do those who continuing generation college students. Bruni begins by describing the golden promise of college as it appeared for baby boomers. In that time getting into college and completing a degree was enough to be successful. For something seemingly so obvious, it is often left out of the conversation. Rick Perlstein wrote about the change in “student life” and how it is “no longer all that important”(Perlstein), and Liz Addison wrote mostly about culture and the available beginning. Both fail to give justice to the central idea of increasing your level of education. Due to this idea, I disagree with part of Addison’s argument. If the purpose is to increase education, then how can two years be better than four? Technically speaking, an associate degree from community college is half of what a bachelors degree would be from a four year university. While everything has a starting point, where it finishes if often what is most important. Additionally, prestigious institutions need to take initiative to create new programs that will make college a painless transition for first generation students by implementing new policies such as mentorship or clubs. In the United States approximately half of all high school graduates attend two year colleges. There are many advantages of attending a two year community college. Unlike universities two year colleges have a class room range of 25-35 students (Belfield). Small class size makes it easier for students to talk to their instructor and keep track of progression throughout the semester. Another advantage is that most students that attend community college either work part-time or full-time jobs. Community college give new moms and working students the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of education, by offering class during the day, evening, and on weekends.
