Initially, Adelina struggles with the fact that she does not have a place in society and is not accepted by those around her. Adelina’s father is abusive to her, but puts her sister Violetta on a pedestal. This is because although Violetta is also a survivor of the blood fever, she does not have any markings. Her father believes that Violetta will be easy to marry off due to her beauty and submissive nature, while Adelina will never marry, as no one wants a malfetto to have children, and does not obey her father. Adelina feels that she is not wanted by her father as her father shows favoritism towards Violetta by giving Violetta pretty garments while Adelina wears the same three dresses all the time. This is why she rebels against her father with her words and …show more content…
It also continues to decrease her self acceptance as it highlights the fact that the laws are not equal for everyone. Adelina is talking to Violetta about her situation with their father and the problems with their society. Violetta sympathizes with her sister as she has seen how Adelina has been treated, but also recognizes the popular opinion in their society and tells Adelina “No one wants you to be yourself. They want you to be the version of yourself that they like.” When she says this it shows how narrow minded the society that they are living in is and is telling her sister to try to fit the societal norms in terms of her actions as Violetta knows that society will never change their views on Adelina. When Adelina hears this she becomes saddened that this is the society that she is living in and feels that it is hard to accept herself if no one else

He is a young, pale, and physically delicate person. We get to know the young minister’s daily experiences and his thoughts about Hester, Pearl and the other characters who surround him. Hester is a young woman sent to the colonies by her husband, who plans to join her later but does not make it since they presume he is lost in the sea. There is no doubt that Miss. Strangeworth is not an easy person to deal with, let alone live with, and although her character is fictional, there are many people with the same personality. We can tell quite easily that she is a very meticulous woman, with a lot of perfectionist tendencies, a few of which are to nitpick people’s lives and make sure that even the most minute detail is up to her standards. I know of someone with these attributes and as difficult as they are to deal with, with their list of requirements to be met and their eagle-eye for detail in even the smallest things, they mean the best, and are always trying to help, despite the possible repercussions.
The narrator reflects,”I did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two things life and death,”(Hurst 3).This quote showed that at first the narrator thought pride was good but later he became self centered and ashamed of his disabled brother and pushed him far beyond his limit. The short story called The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst is a drama where the narrator, or older brother, wishes his younger brother wasn’t disabled. Because he is so fueled by pride, the older brother ends up pushing his brother beyond his capabilities to his death. In this story, we will learn how the narrator’s pride led to the tragic death of Doodle.

Hamartia: a fatal flaw leading to the downfall of a tragic hero or heroine. Derived from the Greek verb hamartanein, meaning to “miss the mark” or “to err”, Aristotle introduced the term to describe the error of judgment which ultimately led to a hero’s tragic downfall. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare uses teenage love to portray the importance of moderation and vigilance. Although Romeo and Juliet are known as “star-crossed lovers, it does not negate the fact that they are impetuous in their love; fate may have designed their punishment but because of their recklessness it may not have needed to.
Third to enter is Susanna Walcott who is a nervous rushed girl. When Susanna states “he cannot discover no medicine for it in his books” there is a feeling of depression but, also, a feeling of eager to find a cure for whatever is wrong with Betty. As Susanna leaves Abigail and Parris both tell her no to speak of Betty in the village. When Abigail and Parris are alone, Abigail informs her uncle, Parris, that there is a rumor of witchcraft being out in the village.
“Love goes by haps; Some Cupid kills with arrows, some with traps” (Shakespeare pg. 45). One of Shakespeare’s most famous plays is Much Ado About Nothing and it specifically shows the tragic flaws of each and every character throughout the story. One character that will be mainly focused on that’s the most tragically flawed, is Claudio because he’s passionate about his love for Hero and how he’s easily manipulated.

The naivete of a child is often the most easily subjected to influence, and Pearl of the Scarlet Letter is no exception. Throughout the writing by Nathaniel Hawthorne, she observes as Dimmesdale and the rest of the Puritan society interact with the scarlet letter that Hester, her mother, wears. Hawthorne tries to use Pearl’s youth to teach the reader that sometimes it’s the most harmless characters that are the most impactful overall. In the novel, The Scarlet Letter, Pearl has learned the greatest lesson from the scarlet letter through her innocence as a youth and her realization of the identity of both herself and her mother.
