The Last Five Years is a musical by Jason Robert Brown. It follows the story of Cathy and Jamie, a young couple in New York City. Cathy is a struggling actress, while Jamie is a very talented writer. The unique part of their love story is that Jamie and Cathy tell it from opposite ends of the relationship. Jamie starts from the beginning and tells it through the end. Cathy starts from the end and tells it backwards. We get to see the relationship grow and end over the course of five years. The movie version of The Last Five Years was very well done. Anna Kendrick played Cathy excellently. In each song, you could feel the emotion in her voice. In "Still Hurting", the opening song, you could see how upset and angry she was at Jamie. Jeremy Jordan
All characters in the movie were played well by the actors in my opinion. They
The shrewd publicity stunt generates a wake of teenage hysteria which sweeps the entire nation. The arrangement is that Birdie will administer a final “good-bye” kiss on Kim MacAfee (Ann-Margret), a randomly chosen Conrad Birdie Fan Club member. This kiss, which will also be a symbolic fair-well to all his crazed fans across the nation, will be accompanied by Birdie singing Albert’s latest song, “One Last Kiss.” However, Birdie's arrival in Kim's hometown of Sweet Apple, Ohio, for the TV broadcast on the “Ed Sullivan Show,” creates havoc for all, including Kim's father (Paul Lynde) and her boyfriend Hugo (Bobby Rydell). Inevitably, a heated feud is created between the genders, but all ends up fair in this musical tale of love and war.
As far as acting, the performers were able to convey the feelings they needed to. However, some characters such as Ol' Cap'n played by Dick Lambert and Luttibelle played by April Curry, seemed more committed and engaging in their roles than others. A crucial factor in April Curry portraying her role so well was her vocal talent far exceeded that of any of the other major performers. She had an amazing voice that I was dazzled by from curtain up to down and left me craving for more. This almost compensated for my disappointment when it came to the ensemble singing to the soundtrack. Many performers were dependent on the cd and were not confident as to when to begin or stop singing, which dampered many moments of the performers. Another element of acting that I enjoyed was the exaggerated use of cooning throughout the duration of the performance that brought characters to life, and enabled certain moments to seem real.
The main character in That Was Then, This Is Now is Bryon, A sixteen- year-old greaser. The writer starts off describing him with dark hair and eyes that girls love. “I'm a big guy, dark hair and eyes--the kind who looks like a Saint Bernard puppy, which I don't mind as most chicks cannot resist a Saint Bernard puppy” (pg 13). His casual attitude about hustling and fighting shows how immature Bryon is especially when he is around his best friend Mark.. “Mark and me went down to the bar/pool hall about two or three blocks from where we live with the sole intention of making some money” (pg 9). As the story continues the writer shows how Bryon begins to question everything about the way he lives when his role model Charlie dies. “I couldn’t get it out of my mind, Charlie’s warning us about hustling, can’t you see? This ain’t some story, some TV show, bang! you're dead, big deal. This is real thing. Charlie is dead!” (pg 86). As the writer introduces new characters in the story each one is an important factor in his development. He falls in love with a girl name Cathy, the writer show us that Bryon begins to care about other people more than himself.
Many people think that reading more can help them to think and develop before writing something. Others might think that they don’t need to read and or write that it can really help them to brainstorm things a lot quicker and to develop their own ideas immediately (right away). The author’s purpose of Stephen King’s essay, Reading to Write, is to understand the concepts, strategies and understandings of how to always read first and then start something. The importance of this essay is to understand and comprehend our reading and writing skills by brainstorming our ideas and thoughts a lot quicker. In other words, we must always try to read first before we can brainstorm some ideas and to think before we write something. There are many reasons why I chose Stephen King’s essay, Reading to Write, by many ways that reading can help you to comprehend, writing, can help you to evaluate and summarize things after reading a passage, if you read, it can help you to write things better and as you read, it can help you to think and evaluate of what to write about.
The book I chose to read is called, Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder by: Richard Louv. I chose this book for a few different reasons. One reason I chose this book was because I’ m highly interested in the whole concept of the book and feel very passionate about its reasoning. I also thought it would be a great read to guide me towards a topic for my main project at the end of the Lemelson program. On the plus side, I “read” this book through audible, which enabled me to listed to the book on my drive to and from work everyday. I commonly do this because of my forty-five minute commute from Truckee to Spanish Springs.
...the 2012 film. And unless you are paying close attention you would completely miss Myrtle Wilson played by Karen Black in the 1974 version and Isla Fisher in the 2013 version besides the party scene in the apartment and her getting killed she is barely noticeable. Jason Clarke played a less wimpy version of George Wilson and he was abusive towards Myrtle. And looked capable of murder and if it wasn’t for the book he would probably flee instead of killing himself. Scott Wilson looked like a sad puppy throughout the movie and very pitiful and it seemed as if Myrtle was abusive towards him. He looked incapable of murder but also as if he would snap at any moment and would commit murder. In the end actors in the 2013 film I would say showed a lot more emotion through and through instead of concealing it and that is something that I enjoyed more than the 1974 version.
On a day to day basis, most people take for granted the lives we get to live, and put too much value on the extra things such as materialistic items. Also, the majority of humans are too invested in their personal lives or with themselves that they do not look at the big picture of how what we are doing now will effect us later. As humans, the routines in our lives can bring us harm, and within time a we may become the sixth extinction. In “The Sixth Extinction” by Elizabeth Kolbert, she gives many examples of animals that are or may become extinct. Along with ways humans contribute to the effort of putting them in danger or having them become extinct. In the end having a summary of how this all comes together and impacts us humans in more

For a college production, the acting was outstanding. I really felt the emotions. The lead Wendla, who was played by KyLeigh Zimmerer, was amazing. I have also seen bits and pieces of the Broadway version which starred Lea Michelle, and obviously if I were to compare the acting, the Broadway version would be victorious. However, for a college production, these actors have limited past experience, but their acting was professional. Also, when they sang the song "Those You've Known," I felt chills and had goose bumps because that was such an emotional song. You could feel all the emotions and guilt Melchior, played by Ryan Ramirez, was feeling because both his best friend, Moritz, played by Justin Noblitt, and the girl he impregnated, Wendla, died and he believed he was to blame. Moritz committed suicide while Wendla died from a botch abortion her mom for...
The film is portrayed in the past and present scenario setting. It is based on a young couple’s love and passion for one another, but are unexpectedly separated due to the disapproval of the teen girl parents and the social differences in their life. At the start of the movie, it displays a nursing home style setting with an elderly man named Duke (James Garner), reading to an elderly woman named Mrs. Hamilton (Gena Rowlands), whose memory is inevitably deteriorating. The story he reads to her is a love story about two teenagers named Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling), that met in the 1940’s at a carnival in Seabrook Island, South Carolina. The two teens are from different cultural lifestyles,
All in all this movie is good the only thing that it could have done different is an ending about 20 minutes earlier. It has its drag ons and loopholes. When we first see Kate, she is doing an unusual song and dance routine while cooking, and her husband comes and as fast leaves for some clients.
The actors in this movie make it what it is. The storyline is strange and can be weird at times but the actors’ emotion and fluidity make the ever so impossible plot and storyline, seem as realistic as ever. Gloria Swanson (Norma Desmond) and William Holden (Joe Gillis) were unfazed by the unusual plot they had to illustrate to viewers and rather did it flawlessly. As a viewer you really believe you are watching in real life, such a indifferent love story take place before your eyes. I guess that’s what usually happens when you have a 2 time Oscar nominated actress and 2 time NBR Award winning actor in the same movie right? Not to mention the numerous awards they both won after this work including a best male nominated Oscar award and a best actress in a leading role Oscar winner by Swanson.
The raw emotion of the entire cast shows how much they genuinely want this to happen in real lives. Elizabeth's (Priscilla Shirer) persistence, Tony’s (T.C. Stallings) interior struggle, Danielle’s (Alena Pitts) understanding and forgiveness really captivated me. The star however was undoubtedly
