On March 20th of 2018, I went with my family to see Adam Trent perform in DCPA or the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. As we walked into the rather large theater I was handed a piece of paper with lots of numbers and colors on it. As the show began I could tell that they were experiencing some problems with the sound because of all the interruptions and sudden stops of the sound. When Adam walked on stage an assistant brought over some sort of futuristic looking device. Adam stepped over to the device where the bottom was concealed by a small mini curtain when he pulled it up and you could see what from a distance looked like real legs but upon closer inspection with binoculars were obviously fake. Then an assistant came over and it …show more content…
After Adam had made his way around the audience, his assistant came out with a table that had a covered box on it. The assistant took out 5 plastic clear cups and started placing them in a row. Then Adam poured all of the balls of paper into the box. then he pulled out all of the cups one by one and put them in a row on another table, some of the plastic cups had multiple plastic cups in the so he removed all of the balls but the ones that were at the very bottom. Before Adam began the trick he brought out a rack with the picture of the people that he tours with. Then one of the cameramen on stage came up closer to the row of cups displaying to the audience which color ball was in each cup. Then Adam approached the cups and one by one took the ball out showing it to the camera. After the audience knew what color and number each of the balls where Adam then began to explain that each of the five people in the picture was holding up a number on their hands. The first ball was had an identical number on it to the number that the first person in the picture was holding up and the second, third, fourth, and
Like many other Postmodern artists, Mike Parr and Stelarc create confronting, shocking, bizarre artworks that provoke a gut reaction from their audience. Their performance pieces make use of few traditional skills, but instead place emphasis on a concept, require immense feats of endurance, and utilize modern technology.
Guy had a vision of operating a hot air balloon. Every day the family would walk down near the sugar mill. Slightly pass the mill there was a fenced area and inside the fence there was a large wicker basket and deflated balloon. Upon sight of the balloon Guy would completely go into a world of his own as if there was no one there with him. During this time the only thing Guy could vision is getting inside the balloon and floating away. Guy’s imaginations were so vivid at this point that he would crumple up a piece of paper and light it. He would then let the paper burn until it was ashy film. The burning paper would float away in the air, thus symbolizing the floating of a hot air balloon.
Jenny asked, “On the first picture what do you see?” Jacob replies, “I see a bird who wants to learn to fly. The bird then draws pictures so he can figure out ways to fly. This picture the bird has the fan so he can learn how to fly; the wind is pushing him, and he can stay in one place and learn. Now he has the air glider thing that way he could also fly different ways and then once he can do that he can fly. Now he has a rocket booster so he can learn how to fly fast, and now he has crashed in all of them. The birds that can fly are laughing at him, and it makes him sad. Then I ask do you think he will give up? Jacob replies, “No since he does not care what others think and now he is trying to make a new machine so he can fly. He made an airplane so now he can fly, and the others will not laugh at him. The bird is happy at first he was sad now he is happy. Jenny asked, “Why do you think he did not give up?” Jacob replies, “He knew he could not fly so he built machines so that he could
When the men arrived they were paired with another man an actor who was a confederate. The two men drew pieces of paper stating what they were expose to be during the experiment either the “Teacher” or the “Learner”. What the men who replied form the paper did not know was that the drawing was rigged and the actor always became the Learner. There was
He brought in college students, one by one, into a room with six to eight other participants. He showed the room a picture of one line and a separate picture containing three lines labeled 1, 2, and 3. One of the three lines was ...
On August 24, 2016 it was a dark and gloomy night it was around two in the morning when the elderly neighbor, Mrs. Smith, heard fighting and screaming from the mansion next door. She called the police suspecting something was wrong, but when the police arrived to the mansion it was strangely quiet. He broke into the house to investigate further as he walked in the huge mansion he saw that at the end of the long, narrow hallway there was a single room with a light on. The police officer, Officer Adams, went towards the room he realized it was an old fashioned theater when Adams opened the creaky door completely he heard high-heeled footsteps and a tear of fabric. Probably some type of clothing he thought. He didn’t
Bob McKenty suggests in the poem "Adam's Song" that life is not a stationary event, it is forever changing and that in order to handle those changes humor serves as a good buffer. The tone of "Adam's Song" changes distinctly at least three times. McKenty uses rhythm, rhyme, and meter to express the essence of change in the poem and in life.

Congresswoman Giffords was shot in through the head in Tucson, Arizona. After the shooting, a panel of legislators passed the Elected Official Safety Act, a law to protect the safety of elected officials in a public (Skrentny). Governor Jerry Brown in Los Angeles was to give a public speech. However, it was interrupted by a young man named Tim Smith. He chose to attend the speech that day and make his way to the front, close in proximity to where Governor Brown was publically speaking. Secret service agents, at an undisclosed time, spot him and see that he is wearing a T-shirt that proclaims, “GOVERNOR BROWN IS IN OUR SIGHTS!” Additionally, under it there is a statement which “shows a picture of Brown with the image of the optical scope of a rifle superimposed over it” Furthermore, to drive home his intent and “point that he wants Brown out of office”, he distributes by hand to other people attending the speech “optical sights for rifles with the same slogan printed on them”, but “few people pay any attention to him” (Skrentny). Did any of defendant Tim Smith’s actions violate the Elected Official Safety Act? Did he infringe upon other people’s liberties or the California Penal Code §415, the law in Cohen v. California (1971)? Are these laws even valid or constitutional? These are the crucial questions in light of the present controversy. I, judge Sonny Wong, answer in the affirmative. In dealing with the whole of Tim Smith’s actions, he violates both acts and the laws are valid and constitutional.
The old beggar grabbed the bow as if he was familiar with the orientation and adjustments. He forcefully tugged the bow string and placed the knotted string over the bow’s glowing tip. Grabbing the other end of the string and pulling it back one hundred and eighty degrees, he snapped the string to the south end of the bow. He was the one who finally completed the onerous task!
Kevin Roose grew up in the ultimate liberal, non-religious home and went to Brown University, an ivy league school known for its left-sided politics and nude parties. However, during his sophomore year at Brown University, he got the urge to experience something new while his friends studied abroad. Kevin decided to enroll as a transfer student at Liberty University, a conservative Baptist school in Lynchburg, Virginia for young evangelical Christians. Kevin must transition from a life of drinking fair-trade coffee, singing in a male a cappella group, and fitting in with Brown's ultra-liberal student body to taking courses like Evangelism 101 and following a code of conduct that monitored every aspect of his life. Kevin went as an
There’s a joke I love, but finding the right audience for it is almost impossible. When I first heard it, I laughed heartily while glaring at the teller. Sure, it was funny to me, but the teller defied social convention in saying it. Ever since hearing this joke, I’ve only managed a successful retelling once or twice, but each time was well worth the effort. The joke is this:
As the dark stadium filled with fire, with the sounds of guns and bombs exploding everywhere, the crazed fans yelled at the top of their lungs. The enormous stage was rumbling with the sound of a single guitar as the band slowly started their next encore performance. Soon after I realized that I was actually at the Sanitarium concert listening to Metallica play "One", I thought to my self, "Is this real, am I actually here right now?" I had a weird feeling the entire time because I had worked all summer to simply listen to music with a bunch of strangers.
...y captivating shows. With the way we currently support our music industry, heavy with electronics and special effects, the art of performing live may become lost in the near future.
Performance art can simply be described as the type of art presented to live audience (Irvin, 2016). The performance can either be carefully orchestrated or random; scripted or unscripted; carefully planned sometimes with or without audience participation or otherwise spontaneous. In addition, the performance can either be via the media or live; sometimes the performer is present while other times the performer may be absent. In general, performance art encompasses four basic elements: the body of the performer, time, space, and the performer-audience relationship. Performance art can take place anywhere and in any type of settings and venue for any time duration. For the sake of this assignment, I decided to attend a live art performance,
