Paragraph 1: Summary The book was about Francisco and his quest to get into a college with all the challenges that come with it. It starts off with him being in the U.S. illegally and being afraid of La Migra catching him. One day they caught the whole family, but they set it out and got green cards for the whole family. Francisco would mostly work in the fields with his brother, Roberto, and his Papa. He would usually skip school to help his family out. His brother got a job as a janitor in high school then Francisco got a job cleaning a gas station. He would try and keep up with his work, but it was hard especially when he was elected ASB president. He is a Mexican boy that tries to do good in school and go to college. He also likes to help his family out with the money. This character is usually living in fields. In the story he is living in Santa Maria. His main goal is to go to college and be a teacher. He tries to get good grades in school. He gets to be ASB president and that helps him get into college. He also gets loans to go to college.
Paragraph 3: Antagonist
The antagonist is Papa. He lives with Francisco in Santa Maria. He is always in a bad mood and he is always in pain. He is against Francisco because he doesn’t like seeing him go away. He doesn’t like seeing his family being separated. His goal is to get in a better mood and to try to get better. His main goal is also to get his whole family and go to Mexico.
Paragraph 4: Setting The setting is in the past. It takes place in the 1980s. The family usually move from field to field, picking crops, but now they live in Santa Maria.
